Yikes. I really, really hoped this was going to be amazing. Tried out the all you can eat crab legs night. WHOA $ 75 for 2 people first of all. Didn’t even order seconds because the legs were so undercooked and I guess they don’t know what wonderful things a little Old Bay will do. Unfortunately that $ 75 didn’t stay down very long, and not to my surprise it didn’t taste any better coming back up for either of us. Coleslaw was really good though… Great theory. Poor execution.

I love this place! The people are so friendly and down home with their hospitality. They have some of the best ham and beans I’ve ever tasted. Their fried okra and fried mushrooms are amazing as well. I love how woodsy the décor is as well.

I took my whole family here during lent last year. We all loved it, especially the hush puppies.

Another place I used to love that has slowly gone downhill. We always order the fried catfish, corn nuggets, fried crawfish. When we feel adventurous we try other items but none hit the spot like the aforementioned dishes. Lately the fish has been really thin with more breading than fish. The tartar sauce is still one of my favorites. We dont order from here as much as we used to because it can get rather pricey. Now I wait for Groupons.

One word is all you need to know… Bad(unless you like oil soaked catfish and hushpuppies). The catfish was rubbery on the edges… I could literally bend the fish(isn’t fish supposed to be flaky???). Hushpuppies had a ¼″ ring of oil on the inside(why would this restaurant go through the trouble of concocting a batter recipe but then ruin it by allowing oil to soak in?). I consider myself a foodie of a wide range and know good, quality food when I taste it. This is far from it. I must say that I have never written a review on a restaurant before but strongly felt compelled to do so here. It’s too bad there isn’t many other options for fish lovers in the Olathe area.

One word sums up this menu: fried. Fried fish, fried shrimp, fried clams… fried fried fried. All of it tastes the same which I’m assuming is because they fry everything in the same oil. Overpriced and just gross. The place was packed when we went which I don’t understand except that it is one of the only restaurants in the area that isn’t so chainy. The décor is outdated and kitch. Just stay home or go to Long John Silvers.

JC had a Groupon that was trending so, I decided to check them out. Let me start off by saying the service was outstanding. Ms. Belinda was a sweetheart. I felt like I was at the Lake of the Ozarks with the décor and everything. Very different. I suppose it goes it with the theme of the restaurant. Now, the food :) my husband and I don’t eat everyone’s coleslaw but, their coleslaw was delicious. Perfect texture and just the right amount of sweetness. You have to try it out. The Hushpuppies were just as good. Catfish fillets… good…lemon pepper tilapia… good. I ordered some boiled shrimp and was a little disappointed. It lacked flavor and had a weird taste that I couldn’t get down with so, I gave some away to my husband and wasted the rest. You get so much food for your money here! The Hushpuppies, Coleslaw and white beans with ham came out before we ordered. I thought that was cool. We’ll definitely add JC to our rotation.

My boyfriend and I make our way to Jumpin’ Catfish for date night at least a few times a month. The waitresses are even starting to recognize us. This is probably my favorite seafood joint in the Olathe/Overland Park area. The only reason I am not giving this place five stars is because I don’t like their fried oysters. Fried oysters are my favorite, and Jumpin Catfish has fried oysters that taste rotten or something. It’s quite disturbing… But other than that, the food has been delicious. Side note: If you are looking for something super romantic and sweet, this is not the place. It is a good place to go if you don’t care about the décor or about the waitress’ attitude. They are quick servers, but they throw the menus and food on the table like they don’t give a hoot. I like this nonchalant attitude, but I know many people go to seafood restaurants with high expectations/

We really loved this place! If you are looking for real southern cookin then this is the place. If you order the all you can eat catfish best be hungry! Looking forward to going back to try some of the frog legs. Staff is great. Owners are from Arkansas and both food and service reflect that.

We have been here before but not again after last night. First we told the hostess we were meeting other people. She asked if it was one of two names she mentioned. I said no that there would be 10 – 12 of us. She again asked if it wasn’t one of the names she mentioned. Then while we waited they took their time putting several tables together. They were not busy. They they put side dishes on the table and finally seated us after 10 – 15 min. We sat there for another 10 min. while the servers ignored us. No water on the table. Only coleslaw and cold beans. Finally a server came and said since no one else had helped us she would. In her defense she was very nice and professional. After being there at least 45 min. our food came. Below average for sure. The décor is dated and shabby.

Everything was really good. I didn’t have anything that wasn’t. The décor was in definite need of an upgrade. The service was great my water never got empty. I would definitely go back.

I was looking for a place to eat some catfish, found this place on Unilocal.I have to say if you leave this place hungry, it’s not their fault. Great food and allot of it. Great employees, very nice and friendly. This is a great place if you’re by yourself or with the family.

I had never been to Jumpin’ Catfish before, but when I found out they have all-you-can-eat crab on Thursdays, I knew this was where I wanted to spend my birthday! I was not disappointed. People grouse that the all-you-can eat crab costs $ 30, but if you devour crab like it’s your second full-time job the way I do, it’s well worth it. The crab legs are very meaty and cooked to perfection(not boiled beyond soggy recognition like the casinos and even sometimes Red Lobster do). Speaking of specials, this place has a lot of good ones. Tuesday — all-you-can-eat fried quail, Wednesday — all-you-can-eat shrimp, Thursday — all-you-can-eat crab legs, and Friday — live Maine lobster tail special. And Sunday you can order ANY of the weekly all-you-can-eat specials. The chicken livers and gizzards are really good(livers in particular). Fried clams are worth a special shout-out too. You can also build your own feast from the extensive meat or seafood menu which gives way too many options to list. Bring your appetite — the down-home cookin’ here is AWESOME.

I finally had business to tend to in Olathe and immediately thought about trying Jumpin’ Catfish. I wish I wouldn’t have. Its location is not very GPS friendly, but we did manage to find it tucked away in a strip mall a bit disguised from plain sight. As soon as you walk in the door it seems like you’ve found a time machine wormhole that dropped you off in a Twilight Zone episode from a 1970s fish camp. The décor is very gawdy, however there is a nice fish tank which looks to be superbly maintained. The ambience of the place is further disrupted with a TV located in the bar area blaring out the audio of the news channel instead of Muzak playing in the dining room. The light fixtures above all of the tables had two bulbs but each one was only burning one of them. Some of them had one bulb completely missing. Ok, so the place is weird. So what? It’s really just a side observation. The real heart and soul of this one-star review lies solely on the food. I got the AYCE catfish, she got the AYCE fried chicken. My catfish looked good, but that’s as good as it got. It was extremely dry, and so crisp on the edges that it was borderline jerky. I didn’t even finish the first portion they brought out. Her fried chicken was very dark. That’s always a signal that the fryer oil is dirty. Her chicken was also terribly dry and overcooked. She didn’t finish her first helping either. We left hungry. The service was mediocre and it wasn’t busy. We were there at 3:15PM on a Tuesday. The AYCE table tent is ambiguously worded. It says that catfish and fried chicken are AYCE every day(no price on the tent), then it separates into a listing of the daily AYCE specials which are priced. We expected catfish and chicken to be considerably less. Yes, we should have asked, but we left feeling price gouged. $ 41.xx for one serving of an AYCE order with quality that fell well below the Mendoza line. The fried chicken and catfish at Peachtree BUFFET on Eastwood Trfwy are WAY better and WAY cheaper. If I’m saying that a buffet was better than cooked-to-order food, then that ought to tell you how bad it was at Jumpin’ Catfish. We were horribly disappointed all the way around and would not recommend anyone go out of their way to try this place.

Very home like atmosphere, catfish Friday’s are home style & delicious. Everything is served family style for the all you can eat catfish & I normally don’t care for slaw but there’s is very good. There was s party if six of us & they have a large corner booth, friendly wait staff & good coffee.

Love the Catfish Nuggets lunch. I used to come here for the all you can eat crablegs, but prices have increased so much that it’s hard to justify bringing the whole family here for that. Regardless of price, I prefer Jumpin Catfish to the buffets when it comes to the crab. It’s always hot and not fighting other people over it. The complimentary sides are good. It’s the only Cole slaw I will eat anywhere. Hush Puppy’s are good. Beans are not my fav but plenty of food available that they don’t need to be.

We eat at Jumpin Catfish quite often; we are never disappointed. We arrive hungry and leave full. I recommend everything from fried chicken, fried catfish, boiled shrimp and the Thursday night«all you can eat Crablegs! Of course you can’t leave hungry because of the wonderful white beans, hush puppies and out if this world cole slaw. Jumpin Catfish is an all around great place to eat.

I was not impressed with this place. I ordered the Catfish and it was cold, mushy, mealy and over cooked. The wait staff was the saving grace. Very nice, and attentive.
