One of my go-to places when we lived in the area but the last couple of times it’s been hit or miss. I’d get a good mini rack of ribs but the second one would be dry. They used to be really good but any more they are just second rate and we don’t bother going any more. Prices are high for the quality of food and poor wait staff. The place needs a make over as it’s showing its age. Save your time and money and go somewhere else.

What can I say about Big Eds Bbq? This place was the go to place back in high school and always the place to go to before a big night out with the crew. All you can eat ribs are excellent. Cooked perfectly and the sides are amazing. Big selection of beers and the desserts are excellent as well. Friendly staff, great food, very inexpensive and worth the trip back to Matawan NJ. Just wish they had a Big Eds up here in Bergen County

This was my first time here for a friends birthday and there were a lot of us! 3 long tables in the side room. It was also the night of a blizzard coming in so it wasn’t very busy. The atmosphere was fine for BBQ place and I had the burger and baked potato and it was delicious! I also had some of my friends pulled chicken sandwich which was also awesome. The sides were good too :) It’s definitely a BBQ/wing all you can eat type place, very manly I don’t think it’s the type of place I would choose to go for my self or family but I would definitely return if it was a chosen place for a friends bday again. It’s a bit out of the way for me too but again fine for an event. For as big as a party we had the waitress was amazing & very accommodating such a large party!

Don’t bother! Outside has a cute appearance, but that is where it ends. The inside greets you to a smell of mildew from the carpet. The strip steak had a char burnt taste, the baked potato had a rotten spot, the bbq chicken had a burnt flavor, but the ribs were ok(not great). Service was non-existent and the atmosphere was loud.

A couple times a year, we like to hunker down at Big Ed’s and do the«All You Can Eat» thing. Their ribs are great, which is why this place has been around so long… you can smell the smokers as you pass by on the highway, and so it get’s in your head that you really would like to have some ribs. While the food certainly fits the definition of «comfort food», the service is generally slow. Which is to say that trying to eat all you can is not really possible, since getting refill plates of ribs can seem like pulling teeth. I also like to have a few beers with my ribs, and my bottle was empty for protracted periods of time. I also noticed that it seemed the refill plates were not top-tier ribs, but were less meaty and tended to be overcooked and dry, which they attempt to cover with excess sauce. So to summarize: Good comfort food, which we enjoy, but the service is slow and the«All You Can Eat» thing, while impressive in theory, is really not possible. And you might need to order two beers at once.

Used to come here in its hey day. Was there tonight and still the same menu and same décor. Waiter was awesome. Food was okay ribs were bleh. If you have to put«bbq» sauce on your ribs that means your not making them right. They are smothered in sauces. So they are hiding something. I mean price is $ 20 all you can eat that never chanced but you never get a full rack.

I loooooooove the food here. Real smoke flavor from actual smoke, and their sauce is legit.

My husband wanted barbecue for his birthday and while it was okay, you can’t compare this to southern bbq. The place just looked so dull and lifeless. It was empty. Everything just tasted alright, kinda dry. I wouldn’t go back there again but they do have all you can eat for the really hungry.

This used to be the go to place for ribs or any BBQ. It is sad that this is not the case anymore. My last few visits have been increasingly disappointing. Today’s trip included sub par brisket and inedibly tough ribs. I loved this place back in the day, when you could lift the bones out of a rack without any effort. Today’s were so tough that no amount of pulling would separate the ribs. It was like a strip from a car tire. It was also telling that the place was almost empty at noon. This would not have been the case several years ago. I guess next time I want BBQ I’m heading to Local Smoke.

Gotta love Big Ed’s! All you can eat ribs, if you can even finish the first plate! The baby back ribs here are succulent and fall right off the bone. Their signature BBQ sauce is on point. Very tangy! My favorite is the brisket though. Super tender and cooked to perfection. There is also a full bar. Don’t eat too many garlic Texas toasts or you’ll fill up before dinner comes!

I would have liked to give more stars because the ribs were good, however the service my party received was unsatisfactory and abhorrent. Our server, KIERAN, was not the friendliest server. I understood that it was towards the end of the night and it was a crowded place, however her rolling of the eyes and rudeness was inexcusable. Regardless of her behavior, we still gave her a decent tip(12%). Here comes the part which ruined the whole night for us… After the checks were signed and taken from the table, a few minutes later, KIERAN returned and LITERALLY threw our copies back at us and made a snide remark about the tip she received. It’s pretty easy to say that the enjoyable night we had at the restaurant was tainted by the piss poor attitude we received by our server. Needless to say, if you are to be a patron of this establisment, I would say go ahead and enjoy. However, if you find that your server is somebody by the name of KIERAN, take your food to go.

Just ok, nothing special. Ribs were smothered in a strong bbq sauce. Opted for the all you can eat for about $ 20. Btw– all you can eat is ribs only. Side of beans was about the size of a shot glass Service was acceptable. Prob won’t return.

This place is absolutely awesome. They have over 50 beers on tap and the tastiest bbq ribs around. I drive from Staten Island as often as possible to eat like a KING at this place. Baby back all you can eat ribs with a side of either pulled pork or fries and mac and cheese. Absolutely awesome. Be careful of those damn good and tasty garlic bread wedges they give you before you eat. They have butter dripping out of them and are absolutely crack-level addictive. I find it difficult to eat less than 3 or 4 each time I go here. The Big Eds BBQ sauce is to die for. I am a BBQ sauce fanatic and this place has developed one of the tastiest BBQ sauces I have ever consumed. The staff is friendly(a bit lightheaded but I don’t mind that) and will bring you waves of refill racks of ribs during your rib eating frenzy. The amount of food you can eat for the price they charge is an excellent value for your money. My significant other and I ordered 2 orders of all you can eat baby back ribs with fries and Mac and cheese and the bill was 40 $. That’s a joke! Delicious food that isn’t a ripoff somehow digests better in my belly. The only warning I have for you is do not eat here if you have a lot of responsibilities that day, you will get the«itis» and slip into a lovely food coma after chowing down at Big Eds. A must visit for any rib lovers.

This place is delicious, everything was done amazing. Had the baby back ribs with French fries and fried clams. Clams were not that great but the fries and ribs are amazing. The garlic bread is probably the best I’ve ever had

I don’t really enjoy BBQ but this place is the one that I will go to for their unlimited BBQ Ribs and sides. They have amazing food and it always smells so good when you walk in that you just want to sit right down and eat. I never walk out of there disappointed and for a small amount extra you can take some ribs home with you. When there are football games on it can get crowed and a little noisy but nothing that any family can’t handle. The servers are all so very nice and we have been going there so long that many of them remember us and it’s just a great place to relax and have great food. It is a great family restaurant also or you can just hang out with friends to watch the game at the bar and have a great meal. I would reccomened this place to anyone who loves BBQ and at a great price!

It was the first time I have ever come in… My family and I have passed by this place hundreds of times and always said we wanted to go. Well today was the day we stopped in. Starting with the restaurant itself, the setup is nice there are both booths and tables. We were seated as soon as we came in, our server was amazing! He answered all of out questions and we got out drinks both alcoholic and non very quickly. I am very picky about ribs, so for me to actually finish my portion is amazing… And I was ready for more. I ended up getting one of their rib combos(the fried clams and ribs). Everything was tasty and hot when it came out! I will be going back!

Taste: BBQ at Big Ed’s is amazing and I’m from Texas so that’s saying something. I highly doubt you’ll pick something that isn’t good. But of course they are known for their ribs so you can’t go wrong with those. Also this is one of the few places I know that has pulled BBQ chicken, so that’s a must try as well if you want something different. Oh! Don’t forget to stuff your face with the bread they give you. That bread is some of the best I’ve ever had in my entire life. You’ll come back to this place for that buttery seasoned bread alone, Price: Very Very fair pricing usually $ 16 for many of the ALLYOUCANEAT platters.

I had the baby back ribs all you can eat for $ 20 and my wife the pulled chicken also all you can eat $ 23 the garlic bread and the salad were the only decent part of our meal. The ribs and the pulled chicken came out dry they were not freshly prepared. There Bbq and honey bbq sauce was good. However it’s all you can eat for a reason. They serve frozen French fries. There Bbq ribs and chicken were dry and tasteless not fresh. Good ribs are supposed to come out hot these were luke warm. Famous Daves is 10 times better and that’s a chain restaurant. The bill was $ 52 and also the service of the young wait staff is very poor. Don’t waste your time or money going here.

Upon arrival into this oversized barn, as you walk thru, you are immediately hit in the face by the glory of the meat shards being cooked thru the front– facing ventilation system. As you squire into this dimly lit BBQ brothel house, full of deliciously good slaughtered pig pork, you take a seat into your wooden chair and brace yourself for all-you-can eat RIBS. JUSTKEEPANEYEOUT for this squirrelly fellow. You can find him on Sunday, Game time during NFL football games. He will stare straight thru your skull until you become uncomfortable and think about leaving. Which again you hope he is not behind you as you walk out, with a rib club ready to strike you in the head and steal your car and roll money. I love BIGEDSRIBS. Best place for a bargain!

Big Ed’s BBQ had been on our bucket list for several years, we finally made it in!!! Our server was Christina, she was fabulous!!! Christina took the time to welcome us to the restaurant, explain all the menu selections and all-you-can-eat options, all the flavored sauces, and great gave us great follow-up service until the time we left. She’s definitely a great asset to Big Ed’s. The food was awesome!!! My favorite was the BBQ brisket — SOSOSO delicious and tender. Also loved the baby back ribs, very juicy and fall off the bone. All around great tastes and flavors! Can’t wait to go back.
