Went here on the recommendation of others and instantly regretted it. The food was decent — it wasn’t amazing or terrible, or particularly memorable at all. If the service were better, it could have knocked it up into the 3 star, OK category, but unfortunately, our experience was terrible. Do NOT go here if you have children under 12. Even though they have booster chairs and a kid menu, this place is NOT kid friendly at all. I swear they ignored us in the beginning hoping we would leave, but once they realized we were there to stay, it was only begrudgingly that we were seated. Waitress looked down her nose at us the entire time and didn’t seem to care whether we enjoyed the food, needed refills, or whatnot. She barely stopped by twice. To our son’s credit, he was actually pretty tired and quiet the entire meal, but I have never felt that uncomfortable in a restaurant before. From being ignored(except for the rude, pointed glares we occasionally received) to, when acknowledged, being treated as «less than» I would never go here again. We were treated as though we brought the bubonic plague into the restaurant instead of a child. Also, I do not know what the norm is there, but when it was mentioned to us, the word was that this was a «casual» restaurant. We could not have felt more out of place in our jeans and sweaters. Everyone was dressed up like they had just gotten out of church or a fancy party(even though it was a weekday) though to be fair, the majority of the crowd was 60+.

Delicious pub food — fish and chips with panko. Staff were kind and efficient. Live jazz and cocktails!

Bar staff was so welcoming, and great service. The(excellent) chicken tenders are beer battered, house made —? Cozy local pub feel; what’s not to like? We will return!

Will NEVER go there again. They had a lock on local traffic and they utterly ruined it. Last dinner, the service was very slow, apathetic, and the food was awful. One bite of a petit filet was revolting. Chewy, gristly, overcooked. Spoke to the manager, who could not have cared less.

Went here to get a few glasses of wine and some apps with my Mom when she was in town. The food was great — but you can’t go wrong with Calamari and spinach & artichoke dip. However, I will admit the service for us was a bit slow, which for a Tuesday evening I did not expect. I would definitely try it again if I am in town though!

Perfect location for my family to meet — close to the highway, and the halfway point between those coming from Hartford and the others coming from RI. We’ve been coming here at least six times a year for many years. We have always overlooked the poor, yet friendly, service and mediocre, hit-or-miss food, But, no more. After today’s visit, we all decided it is time to look for a new place. As usual, it took forever for the(friendly and personable) server to get our order. Then it took forever for the food to come out. And when it did, it was clear that my French dip sandwich had been dying in the window as the rest of our food was being prepared. And it came out without au jus. Seriously? Not a French dip if there is nothing to dip it in… After getting the server’s attention, I asked that the sandwich be brought back to the kitchen and heated in the microwave. I’m not fussy, and I was hungry, so I was just looking for a quick solution. Well, it came back and it was still cold. Got my au jus, but the sandwich was still cold. Server was professional and courteous. She apologized and asked if there was something else I would like to order. As the kitchen is not known for its speed, I declined because I knew that a replacement meal would arrive just at the time when everyone else was finishing up. Then the hostess?/manager?/owner? came to the table to ask me to explain what was wrong with the food. Sorry, sister, but that was explained to the waitress, and I know she communicated it to you. I was not angry, I was not making a scene, and it was not a huge deal. I just wanted to enjoy the company of my family without interruption. So, you coming over and interrogating me further just made my experience more unpleasant and the others in my party uncomfortable. And what’s worse is you did not offer an apology, but tried to somehow make it my fault by pointing out that this is one of your«best sellers». I don’t care if it is one of your best sellers. The bottom line is MY sandwich was not good. How about you interrogate your line cooks and ask them why they are allowing inferior food to leave their kitchen? And the final straw… We had to look at two tray stands full of dirty dishes in the middle of the dining room during our entire stay. Come on, people. Time for a Hospitality 101 refresher course.

Went there for Sunday breakfast and will likely never go again. We walked in and stood at the hostess station waiting to be seated. The restaurant was almost empty — there were perhaps three other tables seated — and yet, every staff member who walked by us, including the«hostess,» ignored us for the first ten minutes we were there. We were finally seated at a table in the main dining room. The waitress took our drink order, and we ordered breakfast when she returned with the beverages. We were a party of seven, but no one had ordered anything complicated or elaborate; mostly simple bacon-egg-homefries-toast breakfasts. I ordered corned beef hash and eggs, because it was on the menu as «our own corned beef hash and eggs» and usually when something is labeled«our own» it’s made in house. We waited nearly an hour for the food to come out, and when it did there were problems immediately. My hash was burned — the kitchen had not only scorched it to the pan, but they had chopped up the charred chunks and stirred it into the hash in a stupid attempt to conceal it(as if it wouldn’t have tasted burned!) Another member of the party was served poached eggs in a small bowl of water(they hadn’t been drained properly.) I sent the hash back to kitchen, and a few minutes later got a replacement: a side plate of greasy, wet canned hash heated up only long enough to make it a runny pile in the center of the plate. I guess«our own» is secret Hideaway code for«Hormel.» The only recommendation I can make for this place is to change the name from«Hideaway» to «Stayaway.»

I’ve been here a few times and while the food is decent the service just keeps getting worse and worse. I want to say tht the peach pumpkin soup is amazing. But other than that the food cannot save the service. The service is way too slow– like absurdly slow. Also the servers don’t write things down but then forget the orders. I hate that. There is no shame in writing down orders! There are so many little things htat have added up to me just saying meh forget it… but the icing on the cake was yesterday… I ordered my chicken salad melt with no tomatoes. It came, had tomatoes on it. I tried ot pick them off but they were, of course, very juicy tomatoes. Tomatoes juice and seeds all over my sandwich. I had already taken them off my sandwich myself but asked asked to have ti remade with NO tomatoes. Server took it away, and another woman brught it bck out-no joke– about 30 seconds later. Mind you, this was a chicken salad MELT. It got grilled. There’s no way it could have been remade in that time… so I opened it back up and of course still found tomato juice and seeds all over my sandwich. I had already picked them off! I wouldnt have sent it back if it was that simple. I mean come on. And then both women completely avoided our table(because they knew…) so I brought my plate up to one of them, showed them all of the tomato guts I was picking out, and asked once again to have my sandwich remade. Experience and meal ruined. by the time I got my sandwich AS I ORDEREDIT… I had lost my appetite, and my friend was done with her meal. I hate that. So awkward. If they can step their game up with service, I’d go back. Prices aren’t bad at all and the food(when made correctly) is tasty and on par for the prices. But the servie and the headache… not worth it.

Very slow Service for a not crowded evening. Food Luke warm I ordered fried clams not a very big portion for price. Clam chowder was good. Fish and chips did not taste«fresh» as a special, Don’t think we will be returning and always loved the place.

Arrived at about 6:30 and shown our table next to a bow window overlooking the salt marsh. Very nice. I was very happy to find German Specialties on the dinner special menu. The German porterhouse steak special was nothing less than fabulous! This is great place with an extensive and varied menu in a relaxing atmosphere.

Have been going there for almost 20 years, but lately, the last few years, not so good. Went there last night, did not serve a n y bread, had to ask. We had the meatloaf special, which was raw on the inside. Had to scream to get waitress, she was too busy talking to coworkers. Then she never came back to see if i t was okay. With all the great choices on the shoreline, probably will not be back.

Great food and great waiter — the place was dated but the ambience was fine. Nice pianist playing show tunes on a cold Saturday night. The place was pretty packed but the waiter was very attentive — will go back

Best lunch and brunch value of the Lyme’s or Saybrook area. $ 1 drafts for lunch, $ 3 Bloody Mary’s for Sunday Brunch, big portions and good quality. Friendly staff. UPDATE — The lunch drafts are $ 2 now, but it’s still a great value.

We stood at the entrance for 10 minutes. The time was 7:35pm. No one even looked at us to seat us. Four employees passed by us and no one said hi, NOTHING. Absolutely felt unwanted, so we left. Never coming back or recommending this place.

Def a blast from the past. Came for a luncheon banquet. Service was slow, yet friendly. The food was really not worth consuming. The pasta was cold, the chicken was dry, the stuffed sole was good and the Caesar was overdressed and little croutons.
