In 1879, Henry George authored «Progress and Poverty». Very well-​known at the time for this economic treatise and his Single Tax movement, he and his theories were almost immediately forgotten — some argue deliberately buried by those in power — upon his death.
In 2009, Henry George guards the entrance to the ladies’ loo at a forgotten Chevron outside Olympia, Washington. As clean as a junkyard dog can be, he’ll let you past his Cerberic gaze for a single bite of your Kit Kat. Then he’ll love on you all the way back to your car.
Gas stations rarely possess any quality that makes them stand out from their competition. A few cents off the going price perhaps, but otherwise, really, why choose one over another? But now I have a single reason: Henry George.
