I’m reading some of these reviews and have to conclude that some of these patrons are thinking about the wrong place. I have been frequenting this place for about 15 years and love it every time. The owner is definitely a bit of a comedian. We know that and if we are wanting a quiet, meal we just go elsewhere or get it to go. But that’s the atmosphere. And that’s Olympia. Olympia is a WEIRD effing town and that character is everywhere. This place is no different and I will eat at this place until I die.

Really clean and the food was super fresh. We had the spring rolls and the green curry. The green curry was probably the best that I’ve had recently. Veggies were not overcooked, still had some bite to them. Peanut sauce is a must!!!

Stopped in to get some Phở and Fried rice on a rainy afternoon. When we entered the restaurant, there was one other couple seated. The table we were seated at was dirty in several places. When the other couple was asked if they wanted a to-go box for their leftover food, we heard them say«no.» The Waiter/owner was an odd guy who tried hard to be funny, and instead came off as rude. I ordered Beef Phở. When he brought it to the table, he said«chicken phở, right?» I said no, I ordered beef. He replied with, «ok, chicken,» and placed the bowl of Beef phở in front of me. The sliced beef on top was a grayish color with an iridescent sheen. I hoped the sheen was related to the oil in the broth, and I wouldn’t have to pay for it later with food poisoning. I removed the beef from the bowl and set it aside. The side plate contained the usual phở accompaniments, lime, basil, and slimy limp bean sprouts. The plum sauce was watered down and in an old plastic squeeze bottle that had obviously not been cleaned in some time. When the waiter came by to refill our waters, he filled my friends glass to the absolute rim, and then laughingly said«you need a straw?» as he walked off. The Phở broth, which truly makes the dish was good despite what I expected. The noodles however were glued together in clumps that were cold in the center. I’m thinking they were prepared earlier and kept in the fridge. The fried rice was par; hard to screw up fried rice. We left no tip, as the food was poor and the service totally inappropriate. 0⁄5 stars.

I had a fresh spring roll with peanut sauce to start, and it was decent. My main reason for going here was to get some Phở. The choice was chicken or beef, so I went with the beef. The benchmark for me is the Phở at Mekong by the Tacoma Mall. Their Phở is great. Here, it was a huge portion, and it was okay. It would have been nice to have had more of a selection of sauces to add. The service was very good. I’ll go back and try some other dishes.

Forget chains like LemonGrass, that is never open when I swing by. This is the real deal and delicious! Vietnamese Noodle Salad was fresh and well made. The Lemongrass chicken with veggies is terrific. The flavor has a lot of depth, light fresh and well balanced. Highly recommended. Owner is a gas.

I’ve been going to Mini Sai for many years for two reasons. #1 the chicken pad thai and #2 the owner is a character. They always have a copy of the Olympian to read. If it wasn’t downtown I would give it 5 stars.

Food with a floor show… the owner’s friggin’ hilarious, the food is friggin’ good… probably one of my favorite thai places in town. A few times the food’s not been fantastic(the peanut curry sauce was bland) but the entertainment keeps me coming back regardless. I’d recommend the Hong Kong style noodles, they’re the bomb.

I had Black Pepper Beef, my wife had Green Curry Chicken. The vegetables where cooked perfect, as was the rice. Beware, «5 stars» for heat may be more than you expect. Food came out a little slow, but there were not many customers at the late hour we were there, so maybe they sent some kitchen staff home. The owner served, and was very nice and helpful. But really, the bottom line is that the food was fantastic.

I have been here a few times over the years. I always get the Basil Thai chicken a very tasty sauce. Your basic Viet/Thai restaurant. Clean bathrooms and very quiet. The owner is a funny guy too.

Great dishes and a very fun and friendly waiter, Ken. My favorite dishes are the Thai special and the Vietnamese quiche. All their offerings ate delicious as MD also very reasonably priced. I love this family run restaurant full of tasty meals and friendly staff. Treat youself!

It’s been a long time since I’ve been here. Food was tasty, but nearly all vegetables and little meat. Disappointing for a carnivore. They don’t have the usual condiments for Phở…, no hoisin, fish sauce, hot chile.

Sub par food. would say even less satisfying then panda express which has become a greasy fast food diarrhea inducing poison. so sums up to pretty nasty food. Will hurt ur body. don’t do it. but then again I haven’t been back for a year. so hopefully they tried to improve.

This is a pretty good Thai-Vietnamese restaurant that also offers bubble tea, Bahn mi(sandwiches) and being available on Sundays. I ordered S12(a lemon grass broth-based soup) to eat there and a chicken Bahn mi to go and was pretty satisfied with both. The bahn mi was pretty good and a step up from other ones I’ve had from other Vietnamese restaurants in Olympia but not quite the best in town. The flavor is definitely closer to the sandwiches you would taste closer to the Greater Seattle area. The chicken in the sandwich seemed to be made with a spicy sauce but had a good amount of mayonnaise to dull the spice(for people sensitive to spice) and they replaced pickled daikon with unpickled cucumbers. The waiter/owner has always been nice to me and I find his food to be fair priced for the quality and quantity that you get. They also offer frequently rotated special dishes which I plan on trying at later visits.

This has always been my favorite place for Thai in Oly. After an ok experience about 3 years ago, I hadn’t been back. I was a total regular after working and living downtown for over 15 years. I came in with a friend for lunch this week and was quickly reminded of why I love this place. We were greated and playfully teased by the owner. There was a bit of a wait for our food but when it arrived, it was worth it, just a delicious as I remembered it. From what I recall it is the owners wife or mother that does all the cooking. It will not be long before I come back again.

Good meal overall. The spring roll was very fresh, peanut sauce was good but not the best I’ve ever had. Apple curry had some great flavor and balance of sweet and spicy to it. I wasn’t as big a fan of the fake meat here as much as elsewhere though. It was pretty much just tofu – no real texture or extra flavor to it. Still a tasty and healthy meal, but if you’re going to do mock meat go all in with it. After reading the other reviews, I was kind of looking forward to the gruff/humorous service, but didn’t really notice it. Maybe just a slow night for them, but the owner seemed nice enough. I wasn’t wowed, but I was definitely satisfied enough to add Mini Saigon to my regular rotation and work my way slowly through the menu!

Yeah right. (If this means nothing to you, please go eat here and order two tofu spring rolls, a bowl of the veggie wonton soup and a tofu bánh mì.)

Meh. The food just didn’t wow us. Perhaps it’s because they feature Thai, Vietnamese, and Chinese food so they can’t hone their skills to be great in any one type of cuisine. We tried the Pad Thai and the Basil Noodle. The Pad Thai was ok, but not nearly as good as you’d find at your standard Thai restaurant. And my wife didn’t care for the Basil Noodle dish. That said, we loved the fact that they give you the option of not only tofu, but also fake meats(chicken & beef). We hardly ever see this elsewhere and loved getting them in our dishes. Also as a previous reviewer mentioned, the owner is quirky and cracks jokes at every encounter. A little bit of this is fine, but it continued during our entire visit and got old. We’re happy we gave Mini Saigon a try, but we won’t go back.

Over the decade(plus) that I’ve been going to Mini Saigon, I have to say that they are the friendliest, most consistent and reasonably priced of all the Viet/Thai/Chinese style restaurants in Thurston County. Many times when favorites of mine disappear from the menu they will make it for me anyway — and happily — if I ask(sometimes I also beg…). Always, they thank me for coming to their restaurant, and always I have been met with a smile and great service. Occasionally, other customers dampen my joyful dining experience or the kitchen has an off day. This is common just about anywhere you go in today’s world, and I’ve had heinous experiences in the best restaurants in San Francisco and New York due to other patrons. That’s not the fault of the establishment. Sure — the décor isn’t as fru-fru as other places nearby, but I’d rather spend my money on quality food and service than«being seen» at fancier digs. A fair reviewer would never hold that against them when the averages are so heavily in their favor for an otherwise consistently positive experience. As long as I am able, and have no reason to feel otherwise, I will continue to be one of their longtime and loyal customers.
