I stopped in here to get some air in my tires as my daughter and I were out on a bike ride. As I was pumping air in my tires I asked the gentleman(store owner?) some questions about how much to tune my daughters bike up. He said he would take a look at it and put it up on the stand. He started working on it before I really knew what was happening or how much it would cost. I asked him how much as he started removing parts and he said it would cost around 40.00 — since he was already working on it I said«ok». When it was all said and done it was actually 80.00 because the 40.00 was for part of it and apparently 40 more for the rest of it. I honestly dont know much about bikes except that my daughter said her bike is working much better now that it was tuned up. I think for 80.00 it should be. I wish I would have asked for an exact quote before he began and started taking things apart. Although he was very nice and knowledgeable I wasnt ready to spend 80.00 and that is how much lighter I was in the pockets after 45 minutes of being in his shop. Nice guy — but maybe ask for exact quote before work begins and your bike is being taken apart. The work was obviously good as my daughter said her bike rides smoother and gears shift better. I dunno maybe 80 was a decent price? Just would have liked to known up front exactly what it would be. Maybe next time I ask for specifics. Parts and gadgets in the store seemed expensive and somewhat overpriced from what I have seen at other bike shops.

I had someone steal the rear axle peg from my rusty but well-loved street bike during a night on the town. Larry at Olybikes was friendly and conversational. He installed the replacement axle and while doing so brushed me up on the finer points of bicycle maintenance of my aging Motobecane. I will definitely do business with them in the future.

I wanted to love you, Olybikes. Worker-owned local bike joint, right on! But apparently I am not cool enough to patronize this armpit-sized and –scented establishment. If you would have taken three seconds to talk to me, you’d learn that I am looking to replace the POS bike I brought in for repairs, with something that costs enough that it *might* just buy me some attention from you snooty patooties. It’s ok, my money’s good elsewhere.

Should read, Owner-operator bike shop. Elitist pandering to Trusties. Expect overpriced equipment and snide attitude unless you have cash falling out of any bodily opening.

Friendly and knowledgeable staff are ready to help you find the right bike, and accommodating of unusual repair requests. However, if you have a rigid 8am-5pm Monday — Friday work week or have an upcoming out-of-town vacation, be very careful about when you take your bike in for repairs, as they will charge you for every day your bike is in their shop starting three days after repair is completed.
