My partner and I took a day trip down to Olympia to see what there is to see. I was looking for a place to grab something fun and sweet after lunch when I stumbled across reviews for Honey Baker. What enticed me the most was that everything is made from honey. Rad! We got a few items to go… but they didn’t go very far. A few handpies and even some gluten-free treats. They were all amazing. As soon as I was finished with my handpie I was so sad it was over. Not only are the treats amazing but the owner treated us like I imagine she would treat her children and/or grandchildren. She was more than happy to talk to us about her bakery happenings, gave honest reviews of the options, and was generally dtcc(down to chit-chat). We left with glowing smiles. She mentioned that a staple bakery in the area had recently closed and that the baking life in Olympia isn’t the easiest — but I truly wish her great prosperity and that her business may be open for a long time as it is so obvious her heart is in it all the way and that she cares about her customers. LONGLIVEHONEYBAKER!

i wouldn’t even give 1 star but since it is required i had to. this lady is entirely unprofessional and disrespectful. to talk down to people as though they are inhumane is disgusting. julie will come outside screaming at you for parking in front of her business claiming that it is her property, although it is not… it is the side of the road that belongs to the city, in which, she took upon her self to illegally paint yellow. anyone who harasses patients and innocent bystanders should not have a business. i do not recommend this bakery to anyone for this specific reason. her negativity is bringing down her own business. get a life lady seriously. yelling at an innocent little girl in a wheelchair has got to be the lowest most disrespectful thing i have ever seen. i hope you drag your own business down.

Love Olympia Honey Baker! Drove by so many times without knowing this little gem existed. My favorites so far are the chicken sausage & apple hand pies and blueberry hand pies. Julie is a pastry genius. I liked their Facebook page and now see her baked goods every day. Wow, talk about cravings. Yum!

It’s obvious after reading numerous reviews that the Olympia Honey Baker provides delicious food. Also, it appears Julie, the owner, takes a lot of pride in her work. The Olympia Honey Baker would have been a great place to test out, but a recently negative experience with Julie left a bad taste in my mouth. The situation involved me being dropped off in front of her store. Julie expressed her disapproval of having a vehicle sitting in front of her store blocking part of the driveway. I attempted to explain that the vehicle would be leaving once the passenger could safely exit the vehicle to get into the driver’s side to drive away. Julie didn’t care for my explanation but continued to yell that the vehicle couldn’t park there. At this point, the matter was escalating. Again, I explained that the passenger was looking for an opportunity to exit the vehicle without getting hit by a speeding vehicle driving on State Street. Julie gave me a dirty look and then slammed the store door. This situation could have ended with a better outcome. I believe it’s important to support local businesses. However, I do not support a business owner who yells and screams at people in public.

Yum Yum. I’m telling all my friends. The chicken sausage apple pie was the perfect lunch yesterday. Especially good for the gluten or soy-free friends. Give a gift of the almond biscuit or a strawberry tart or chocolate graham crackers.

My official favorite business in Olympia! Julie, the owner, is the nicest person ever! You can tell she puts a great deal of thought and effort into this business. Everything is like homemade, and the variety is impressive for a small business. Recently I called in the early afternoon and asked if she had any hot dog buns in her display case. She didn’t, but she volunteered to make a batch just for me! Two hours later, I was leaving her store with fresh buns that were absolutely delicious. Where else can you get service like that? She’s always kind and patient with my chatty son, and the bakery has become a regular part of our weekly routine. This bakery is one of those places that makes a town special. You can get bread or pastries anywhere, but why not get the best quality and from a person who clearly cares about what they do? Oh, and try the graham crackers. They’re amazing.

All bakery items have no sugar, only honey which has more health benefits. I love coming here. The owner Julie makes different items every day. Her typical offerings include apple bread pudding, berry filled hand pies, chocolate honey torte. Thursday is gluten free day. Her hamburger buns and shortcakes are fantastic.

Oh wow– delicious! I got a gift certificate for this spot in March off of deal pickle, but didn’t make it down there till today. Boy am I glad I finally did! There wasn’t a HUGE variety of things to choose from, but it was the last day they’re open for the week, and they had discounts– so probably more fresh stuff earlier on. Julie(the owner) seemed very dedicated to what she does. She told me that her honey comes from Lacey, and pretty much everything except her cake flour is locally derived! There was a menu you could order from in advance, and she told another customer who was on their way out to just give her a call a day ahead for the making of their favorite type of bread. We got a large soft pretzel, 5 gluten free cookies, and 2 lemon ice box pies. The pretzel was soft, chewy, salty– everything a pretzel should be– but even better after we microwaved it. It came with a spicy honey mustard which I really liked. More honey and spicy than mustard, but no complaints on that here! The cookies were kind of like a fluffy chocolate crackle cookie. Pretty delish, but not as memorable to me as the other items. The ice box pies had an amazing filling, more whipped/light and less dense(think meringue, not squares). The crust was pretty tough, so I just gave up on my fork and ate mine with my hands. It still was wonderful. Graham crackery, molassesy, can’t really describe. It tasted… dark and delightful. All the goods are flavored with honey, not sugar– so depending on how strict of a vegan you are this may not be the spot for you. I’ve been stalking their facebook for a while, and it seems like various gluten free goodies are routinely offered. There is parking in the back through an alley between Fir and McCormick, and parking is legal on State so long as there’s not driveways, hydrants, or yellow paint. The parking was the biggest challenge for us– so I figured I ought to share that. :)
