Five Spice

Out and about Saturday night. Considered going to Thai Kitchen, but stopped in there and waited for over 5 minutes and didn’t even get a hello. They weren’t very busy, so not sure why it took so long.
Then I remembered the last time I went to 5 spice I had a great experience. So I went there tonight and got an order to go. The girl at the front was very helpful in helping me decide what to get. I ordered the Sachuan Vegetable dish and it was WONDERFUL! I really like Five Spice. I’ll definitely choose it again next time.

The Spicy Garlic Chicken was some of the best I have ever had!

Food is amazing! Fresh all white meat chicken. The food is not drowned in sauces to hide low grade ingredients. Service was good also. We will defiantly be back several times.

Decent for Omaha Chinese food but it’s about on par with Hy Vee. Some people really love this place but we were not totally wowed.

My wife and I tried this place for the first time tonight on a last minute decision for dinner. Extremely glad we stopped in! She had the orange chicken and I tried the Szechwan beef (extra spicy) as recommended by our server (Anita). Food was quick and delicious! Our server was extremely helpful and offered us drinks to go as we were somewhat crunched for time. Even though the service was excellent we live close enough that we’ll probs just take advantage of carry out next time. But it will definitely be sooner then later!

Good Chinese, quick for takeout orders. Nothing outstanding, nothing bad.

This is my favorite Chinese restaurant! I haven’t ever had anything that was excellent there. Their Mongolian Beef is especially good. I also LOVE their scratch-​made chili sauce (available by request). They are always clean and have good service, too.

Had take out from here on 7÷2÷15 for the first time. We were surprised! Very good. Certainly better than most Chinese in West Omaha, and now our «go to» for Chinese takeout. While I’ve had more authentic Chinese cuisine, and Five Spice has a typical «Americanized» Chinese menu, the quality of the food they served was quite good. With most Chinese takeout in Omaha the vegetables are soft and have a canned/​frozen taste, and almost always the food is too oily/​greasy. While the vegetables in our food were similar to most, at least the food wasn’t swimming in an oily sauce. Hardest part for us ordering takeout was the lack of an online menu to know our choices. Definitely give it a try!

Another nice suggestion by the Unilocal community. I had the szechuan pork and some pot stickers. Fresh, well prepared, quick and nicely proportioned. The crab rangoon is a nice touch and the menu offers a great variety. Definitely hit the spot and I look forward to going back.

My husband and I ate here with my parents on a Friday night. We were promptly seated and our drink orders were taken. We stuck with water, but I noticed they had some alcohol offerings. The restaurant is bright and clean and has some nice artwork and other art pieces in it. There is a bar running along the side near the door that makes picking up take-​out easy. The service was very good and efficient. We never had to wait for a refill and our food was brought out within 10 minutes of ordering.
They have individual dishes, which are served with two crab rangoons, or they have family-​sized dishes, which are served with rice. For our entrée my mom and I shared the family-​sized honey walnut shrimp. My husband ordered the chicken fried rice and my dad ordered the pork foo yung. My one complaint is that there was no noticeable size difference between the family-​sized portion and the individual portion, but the family-​sized portion is more expensive. However, the honey walnut shrimp was good, and the portion was still more than enough for two people. I also tried the other two dishes (and stole one of my husband’s crab rangoons) and they were both excellent. The pork foo yung was particularly good.
We will be eating here again, although I will be sticking to the individual portions in the future, as the food was better and it is a much better value.

I picked up a few things at Target and my stomach reminded me it was dinner time looking around the lot I noticed Five spice’s sign beckoning me. I agree with the others this place is GREAT. I didn’t even read the review for it or know that it was there. I had hot and sour soup which was SO So Good. I enjoyed the crab Rangoon and eggroll very nice sweet and sour dipping sauce but when my Mongolian beef arrived smelling delicious. I knew, KNEW this place knew what they were doing. it was excellent reasonable portions and affordable. i’d shied away from Asian places because down in KC minus Thai Place they were not very good. high priced yes. but not very good. i’m not a big «authentic» person. I want good food. period. this was the best Mongolian beef I had in years. it was perfect. I will be «needing» something at Target soon so I can have it again.
plus you can get Jones bros cupcakes for dessert.

This place was great! The service was so good and the lettuce wraps are amazing. The wonton soup even has veggies in it. Not your run of the mill wonton soup you typically get. Might be our new go to Chinese restaurant around us. Also had the Peanut Butter Chicken and the Firecracker Beef were also good. The ambiance isn’t great. Very cold and industrial. They should dim the lights in the evening to warm it up. But definitely will go back!

After doing some shopping at Natural Groceries I did a Unilocal search and discovered Five Spice in the strip mall by Target. The reviews were pretty high so I had some high expectations going in, coming out not so much. The restaurant is minimally decorated, sharp and clean, it passed my eye check.
I ended up ordering the individual portion of their Garlic Shrimp. All entrees come with two crab rangoon, which most places should just go with calling them rangoon, because I’m sure if I sent them to a lab they would be hard pressed to find any crab. They were average, as was the whole meal. The Garlic Shrimp was in some sort of brown sauce with an abundance of diced up water chestnuts (I mean I ate so many you could call me Morris Chestnut), they overwhelmed the sparse mushrooms and shrimp. The Garlic Shrimp was lacking the «garlic» that it gets it’s name from but there was ginger in there to compensate. I’ve had Garlic Shrimp at many Chinese restaurants and there is no consistency. It tasted okay but not what I was expecting. The rice that came with it was steamed, I think. It was sort of brown but not brown rice, but not the white that I usually am expecting (see picture). The portion size was okay but for the cost, my total bill was $ 10.86 for the entrée and a pop. I’ve had much better Chinese for lunch for less moola in the city.
All in all I would put it at 2.5 stars. My waiter was nice and kept my drink filled and brought the check promptly but other than that it was as plain as a pickle.

My only disappointment is that I waited so long to give this place a try. Not to mention we live close by and have tried several other Chinese restaurant IN THE SAME PLAZA but time after time skipped over Five Spice. Oh well as the saying goes, better late than never. Last week we decided to give 5S a try and couldn’t have been more pleased with the experience. The restaurant is bright and airy. The bathrooms were clean and stocked with all the essentials. The staff greeted us upon entering, immediately escorted us to a table, and took drink orders… they were efficient! The food selection was plentiful with many unique to me items that I hadn’t seen at other Chinese restaurants. Definitely give 5S a try!

I feel robbed.
For years, we have lived right by this place and have overlooked it. We frequent the Target nearby on a regular basis (my husband would say too much even) and never once was Five Spice mentioned when the question «What’s for dinner tonight?» had come up.
We recently were having dinner with some friends who moved closer out West and they mentioned part of the benefit was having Five Spice. They went on to rave about how the food was amazing and the value was just as good. Convinced, we knew we had to venture out.
So earlier this week on Monday we headed over there for dinner. As we entered, I was quite surprised to see how well lit and semi-​well decorated it was. We were greeted and sat right away… quick service. At 6pm on a Monday, there were 4 other tables when we arrived and the place quickly filled up to near full– always a good sign.
We got Beef Lo Mein and Mongolian Beef in the family size for our family of 4 (2 adults and 2 little ones) which was more than adequate! I also was in a soup mood so got the Hot and Sour soup which was REALLY good! Might very well be my new favorite.
Service was prompt and efficient. Bathrooms were clean. Food was tasty and a great value. What’s not to love?
My only regret is that we waited so long to try this out. We will certainly be back!

Absolutely, no question, the very best Chinese place I have ever eaten at! I was beyond impressed! I got the Hong Sue Chicken. Huge pieces of not overly breaded white meat chicken, tons of fresh perfectly done vegetables, and not drown in a sauce. I asked him to spice it up a bit and it was perfect. Came with delicious fried rice and the 2 well filled crab rangoon done perfectly. My friend got Princess Chicken and again tons of big white meat chicken, sautéed, not drown in sauce. Came out in about 7 minutes. No reason for me to ever try any other Chinese in Omaha again. I’m hooked and will likely go right back tomorrow! And next week! Great service too!

Excellent Chinese food!
We ordered several different things and they were all superb. I highly recommend the egg rolls, crab rangoons and Lo mein. Orange chicken was also delicious!
The place looks pretty new: very clean and nicely decorated. We will definitely come here again.
