Sunday is where it’s at with a spicy bloody mary! Man was that good! Pair that with a large sashimi plate and three rolls and you’re definitely on the right track! This was my first raw fish experience in Omaha and I will definitely come back for friends for more! The spice is right! Not stingy on Sriracha and is in a direct tie with another favorite, Sushi Japan in town. Happy Hour and Happy Belly is right! If curious for something different you must try Salt next door! Hidden gem for food lovers with a craving for well mixed soul drinks(circa soul food). Hint: The water guys/gals are champs with much needed Sunday water!

4th or 5th time at Hiro on 129th. Always good, but tonight was the best yet for me. My dinner tonight was was not just about the food which was very satisfying, it was about the service. I would like to thank our server Jordan, who was very attentive and quick. She made sure we were satisified without being annoying or fake. Just friendly. Between her and the other staff, there was never a dirty plate on our table for more than a minute or so. Just left very satisfied!

re routed for over 30 min.$ 7.00– $ 15.00 to deliver plus tax. This is a delivery service that charges additional to the restaurant. I was screamed at by the person who answered. They told me they could not deliver 2.4 miles away .LOL do not order unless you are almost dying. #ripoff

I’ve never had Japanese before, so this was an adventure. For my first Japanese place, I have to say that I’m impressed. Definitely was a good introduction into that type of food. I came for the noodle dishes, so I was happy to see that they served Yakisoba and Lo Mein. They also have a ton of sushi options. Any of the noodle dishes came with a soup or salad as an appetizer. Service was fantastic. I was quickly helped by a waitress, and our water drinks were kept very full the entire visit. Dirty plates were quickly cleared, and our order was taken promptly and quickly. The check was also dealt with very quickly. Impressive staffing. For anyone that is nervous about understanding people well enough to place orders, everybody was easy to understand or happy and seemed nonplussed to repeat what they had said. Again, super friendly service. Their soup options were good. The Miso soup was really good. I’m actually craving some today now too. It was a generous portion(about a cup and a half, I think?), and it was brought hot(but warm enough to chill with a couple blows) and still was warm by the time I finished it. I had the Chicken Yakisoba. It was pretty good. I was surprised by how sweet it was, and so was everyone else in my party. They said they’ve never had a sweet-tasting Yakisoba. It didn’t taste bad, but I think I would have preferred a less oiled and sweet taste. It was still quite good, though, and it was piled with healthy veggies such as mushrooms, carrots, sprouts, and more. Everything was nicely steamed and yummy to eat. Prices were a bit higher than I was expecting, but it seemed like we were definitely paying for the quality. Because of the higher prices, I’m not sure I would make this a regular eating establishment, but they definitely seemed to provite a level of service and taste that matched the prices they were asking for. NOTE: There is posted signage outside the door about proper dressage. They explicitly prohibit any sleeveless shirts. I was worried I was underdressed, but most people were dressed in upstanding semi-casual. T-shirts with nice jeans. No ripped clothing or anything like that, but it didn’t seem to be super strict about any particular dress code. Would definitely come back.

Great sushi, great atmosphere, and great service! We frequent Though I am not currently living in Omaha, we frequent Hiro every single time I’m back(it’s a must!) The service is always great, and the sushi is amazing! My goto is the Hiro Crunch, but I always try to try something new whenever I go, and I have never had anything I didn’t like. A couple times I have used the Unilocal deal and received free crab ragoons, which I probably would not have got if I didn’t have the deal — and I highly, highly recommend those! They are the best I’ve ever had.

This place is busy! The staff is helpful and friendly, very upbeat. Sushi was great, very large portions. 3 rolls for 2 people with lots of leftovers. The decoration is beautiful. I’ve heard the happy hours are great. Lots of parking,

Our favorite place for sushi, we tend to go on Sundays for the ½ price all day menu. We get the spicy edamame and Korean short ribs for apps, and 10 different rolls for supper, always good food and great service. And if you have room for dessert their chocolate cake is wonderful!

Hiro 88 has the best happy hour sushi menu in Omaha! Great selection, delicious cocktails, relaxing environment and wonderful staff. My friends and I go at least twice a month!

I almost gave Hiro 88 three stars, but couldn’t do it. I’ve eaten sashimi at many, many restaurants. I had high hopes, but the sashimi tonight was not great. Service was fantastic. The salad with carrot ginger dressing was very good. I could have licked the bowl. When the sashimi arrived, the waiter introduced the fish, which I appreciated. Tonight’s combo included striped sea bass, tuna, salmon, halibut and octopus. The highlight was the octopus. Octopus is chewy by nature, but the flavor overshadowed that fact and each piece was a delight. None of the rest of the fish wowed me. None melted in my mouth. The deep red tuna was dense, as usual, and not great. I will say this cut of tuna is never exceptional, so I wasn’t surprised. The halibut didn’t have much flavor, the salmon didn’t have the mouthfeel I expect. I had high hopes for the striped sea bass, but again, it was not outstanding in any way. Add to that the price for 14 pieces, $ 27, and it was a disappointment. I’ve paid less for phenomenal sashimi in San Francisco.

The atmosphere is cool and the server was very attentive– so two stars there. Reverse Happy Hour was awesome too. Spicy edamame? Great. However the sushi was flavorless and the scallop appetizer was downright nasty– tasted like fish, not scallops. Overall ok but I’ll still take Sushi Japan.

The food is amazing and the service is great. I’ve never had a bad experience at this location and I’ve been going there for more than a decade. I was surprised yesterday that someone was smoking inside the building, probably in a back room. So for about ten minutes the place smelled like a casino.

All day happy hour is a good thing on Sundays. There are various bento boxes that you can do for lunch mixing sushi with various other Japanese entrees(tempura, teriyaki beef or chicken) etc, or just sushi and apps all day long. I have also tried some of the more expensive entrees for dinner on various other occasions and they are pretty good too. Other than Sushi Japan(my pick for authentic and delicious sushi in Omaha), Blue and Hiro are my favorite budget-yet-quality spots in Omaha, especially during the happy hour periods. The ambiance is nice and the staff is usually friendly. On our last visit, I was a little disappointed with the authenticity of the teriyaki beef and chicken– it was sort of cardboard-ish and I didnt really like the flavor. I still enojyed the sushi and the gyoza as well as the tempura. Overall, a great place to eat sushi, although I would say not the most authentic Japanese food I have tried. Again, it’s Omaha so the fact that they’re even trying is a huge plus.

Two words, Happy Hour! Sunday is all day happy hour and that’s a good thing because our bill would have been an obscene amount of money. Bailey was our waitstaff, she was kind and attentive without being hovering. You know what I mean when it comes to up-scale restaurants. The décor was dark wood and dim lighting. I would have liked it to be a little brighter in the dinning room as it was difficult to see the menu. There were all sorts of people taking full advantage of the happy hour pricing. The menu has something for everyone, even if you are not into raw fish. It wasn’t the best sushi in the world, that is reserved for the Hachinohe Fish Market in Japan but it was quite tasty and we will go back again. What I liked most about this place was how Bailey was friendly and approachable in what is usually a snooty place. I call it a snooty place due to the signage outside the front door about appropriate dress. 1 soda 3 apps 6 rolls 4 pieces of nigiri Total before tip $ 68.88 Go on a Sunday for dinner and bring friends, it’s the best way to get a taste of everything.

I used to frequent this location but I hadn’t been here for dinner in several years. We stopped in for dinner on a Saturday night a few weeks ago. It was very busy but they take(and more importantly, honor) reservations and we were able to get right in. My sister and I both ordered a drink to start off our meal. I don’t remember what specifically I ordered, but it was a seasonal drink made with apple cider and vodka. The drink was way too strong, but our waiter happily brought me extra apple cider to dilute the alcohol and it was pretty good after that. I also tried my sister’s drink and it was good. For an appetizer we ordered the crab rangoons. They were good, but not great, and the portions were pretty small. All entrees are served with soup or salad and they have a signature carrot-ginger dressing which I LOVE. For my meal I ordered the Vegetable Tempura Dinner. It used to be my favorite entrée here but I was a little disappointed by it this time(granted it could have just been an off night). They do have an awesome variety of vegetables in this dish but the flavor was a little lacking. My sister ordered the Miso Glazed Chilean Sea Bass. It was a small portion but she said it was one of the best dishes she had ever had(I tried it and it was exceptional). The atmosphere is very nice. This place is very popular so the restaurant is pretty crowded and loud. We arrived early for our reservation and were unable to get a drink at the bar because it was so crowded(being popular is usually a good sign, though). The food here is sort of pricey and based on my recent visit I am not sure all the entrees are worth the cost(although the Chilean Sea Bass definitely was). I have been here for happy hour several times and the food has been pretty good and they have many reasonably priced options. I will definitely be back for happy hour but I will probably be saving dinner visits for special occasions.

My wife and I have been coming here for years. While I am not a sushi fan, I can say this is her go to spot in Omaha, as well as other members of her family when they want sushi. Myself, I stick to the Chinese side of the menu, and always leave happy. We have come to eat with the just the two of us, as well as with groups up to ten. With a group getting sushi, I have to say the sushi boat presentation is pretty cool. The Miso soup is very good here, and my wife simply raves about their seaweed salad. My go to menu items are fairly standard Chinese fare, Sesame Chicken, or their Yin’s Chicken(similar to Sesame Chicken, but with a bit of heat). My entrees have always been consistent, which makes me happy to come back here(or bring take out home).

I don’t understand how this place has so many positive reviews. Sorry but that farm raised salmon they’re serving doesn’t constitute as sushi in my world. Most of the food being served is either fried and/or covered in thick, goopy sauces. My sashimi plate was incredibly chewy. It was chewy due to the fact that my white tuna had a visible sinew(a piece of tough fibrous tissue). It’s unacceptable to serve fish with sinew at a sushi restaurant. The sushi rolls were poorly wrapped. If you are into rolls with a lot of sauce and tempura in it to mask the fish, then this is the place for you! Sushi should not sit heavy in your stomach. It should be light, delicate, artful and subtle.
