We laugh about it, but every six months or so, we used to hit the Roadhouse for comfort food. We checked it out this week after noticing the«under new management» sign. It looks like quite a few booths/tables have been removed, which made it seem crowded, though it wasn’t as 7 p.m. approached. There was a table tent promoting $ 11 old fashioneds, do we splurged and ordered two. Five or 10 minutes later, our server came back to tell us they were out. When that happens, you might want to remove the promotional material. Portions are smaller, and meals are plated by someone who really doesn’t like their food to touch. The new side dish(apparently no substitutions, please), of OBrien corn is not my fave, and«offering» an additional side of mashed potatoes with the chicken fried chicken is odd — it used to be the standard. What else would you want with all that gravy? Return it as the standard and offer options instead of that bad corn. Said chicken was, as mentioned earlier, a smaller portion, and a little overcooked, as it was beginning to curl up on itself. There usually is a choice between corn bread or biscuits, and I would opt for the former. Biscuits are small, dry, and look like they are from a Sam’s multi-pak. This time, no options — bad biscuits for everyone! Overall, disappointing, and probably no longer a neighborhood drop-in. Just not worth it.

This used to be 5 stars for two reasons. The onion rings and how flexible they were with subbing. Their coleslaw always taste weird so we could sub it out for another side(side salad $ 1 more). Now they won’t substitute unless you add it for $ 3.45 Now the onion rings. Would say they were top 3 in Omaha. Maybe the best. Now it’s a pile of grease and onion straws. The fried chicken is still one of the best just disappointed that the«managers are cracking down» and they changed their best appetizer.

If you’ve never been or have’t been in awhile, give the Millard Roadhouse a try. You’ll find all of your favorites on the menu and there’s something to please all tastes! My favorite is the chicken bites tossed in cajun sauce… Yum! It’s under new management and you can tell. It’s super clean, the food is great and the service is outstanding(friendly and attentive!). The bar area has been completely redone… Docs Saloon is an inviting, casual place to hang out with friends, watch your favorite team or it’s perfect for your post-game activities! Enjoy and have fun!

First time we’ve been here since about 2001. Place was remodeled in July. .now is nice inside. Good place for pub food and burgers. They make a wicked good Manhattan. The party melt was good as well. Hometown comfort when you aren’t in the mood for the higher priced restaurants in Omaha. We’ll be back!

I must admit despite only a 3 star review from myself I still come here quite often for the lunch buffet. It is quick and besides the staple item of Fried Chicken is always changing. The service is always great and a recent facelift has made the dining room a very pleasing place. I could now even imagine coming here on a game day with the new wall of LCD TVs. Unfortunately the buffet itself reminds of cafeteria food from school. Very serviceable and you will never leave with an empty stomach, but definitely could use some healthier or more refined options.

So I am giving it 3 stars strictly because our server rocked. She has been there forever and knows what she is doing. I believe they always give her the bigger parties because she can handle them. I cannot give the food 3 stars though, it use to be good, it use to be full of flavor and I would want to go, now every time someone mentions the place I grown, sorry its just not good anymore. My hubby ordered the roast beef over bread with the potatoes. He got processed sandwich meat on bread smothered with gravy and mashed potatoes, not real roast beef you think you would find in these places. It looked gross and he said It did not taste good at all. I had fish and chips and it was alright. the breading was thick and didn’t hold much flavor, I had to dump a bunch of salt on it to get it to taste like anything. back in the days you wouldn’t have to do that. Some of the family got the chicken and they said it was alright. My mother got the chicken and noodles and although the noodles looked kind of mushy she seemed to like it. I think they revamped the place and redid the bar area. I didn’t go look that is just what I heard. I honestly think they really need to revamp the menu,(someone said they added more items to the menu) hire someone who knows how to do «homecooking», get rid of half the items and concentrate on doing it right, rather then fast and cheap maybe they will survive. I don’t see them open in the coming years if they keep doing what they are doing. It cost us near 40 bucks for 4 of us(did not order drinks), which would not be bad at all if the food was better quality, but since it tasted like junk, not worth the money. My 6 year old kept saying we should of went to the other«Roadhouse»(we all know which one) it would of cost the same, better quality food and more bang for the buck !

Plenty of the 65 plus crowd for the chicken and that’s a good sign, but your reviewer and the débutante from The Center of the Universe were not impressed. It just didn’t have any spice or taste to it. It was broasted as advertised, but the fried chicken at Jack & Mary’s is superior. If the chicken tasted more like the spicy chicken gravy, it would be way better. I used the Unilocal 15% off coupon and that ameliorated the whole experience.

We tried their Sunday brunch buffet and it was a complete disappointment. The eggs don’t just look unappealing, but tasted pretty bland as well. The rolls were a little on the hard side and you have to make your own waffles via the waffle maker – which reminds me of hotel serving free breakfast. But with theirs, they only have 2 disposable cups(1 for each flavor), and the cups are just soggy from all the use and the spill from the dispenser. Only redeeming factory with our brunch was the mashed potatoes – it was surprisingly good especially compared to all the other entrees. Bacon, sausages, biscuits were just OK… pretty hard to mess those up. As for the rest, it was nothing special. The service was great and the place wasn’t cramped. Doubtful that we’ll ever try this place again. Reinforced the lesson of «quantity vs. quality»

First time there after driving by for years. Great service. Food was very tasty and the portions are huge. Loved that when we sat talking after our meal there was no rushing us out the door– we will definitely be back!

20 minutes ago I wouldn’t have thought I would give this place 5 stars. After reading the reviews and waiting what felt like an extreme amount of time for our order we were convinced it was going to… for lack of a better word… suck. NOPE… the waitress explained they were training a new chef. Our food came out and looked amazing. Hand cut peppers, tomatoes, steak and onions in the sizzling hot fajita plate. Beautiful Ruben on Rye with homemade mashes potatoes. Not to mention great prompt friendly service from both blondies… waitress and bartender. Topped off with a discount for our wait I didn’t have to ask for. Thanks!

I was in search of GREAT fried chicken but… The fried chicken was mediocre at best and was very disappointed. Ambience was, well, what shall I say, funky? Austere and a bit spartan? But hey, didn’t mind much as I was there for the bird. I’d read some largely favorable reviews on Unilocal and thought I’d give it a shot as I was in Omaha doing business and am on the perennial quest for the country’s best fried chicken. My friends and clients state I make the very best friend chicken in the U.S. Well, I don’t know about that but agree it is great. This was by no means«great.» It wasn’t even that good. Yes, the crust was nice, but the chicken wasn’t particularly moist and was poorly seasoned — meaning it required a LOT of salt and pepper as it was quite bland. The server was friendly but a bot overwhelmed and the beer was slow to come out and the chicken arrived moments after the quite simple and utterly boring salad arrived. The french fries were served lukewarm and also disappointed. The veggies were lame, bordering on pathetic. Coleslaw was OK. Perhaps I caught them on a bad day but I arrived early and they weren’t that busy. Certainly not worth the trip form downtown Omaha and sadly cannot recommend. Ironically, I drove right past a Popeye’s and in hindsight wished I had stopped there instead for what is actually some VERY good fried chicken!

Review is on nachos alone. Boring store bought tortilla chips with barely half melted cheese. Some jalapeños, sour cream, and a few black olives. That’s it. We asked about the black beans after we realized they were missing. We were then told«oh sorry, we’re all out of those right now». I’d say 70% of the chips had nothing on them. Thanks for the bag of tostitos tortilla chips. Will not go back. Too many choices in Omaha at this point for such mediocre food.

The food here is mostly average and«ho-hum.» That includes the broasted chicken that everyone raves about. It’s mostly indiscernible from fried chicken, so I don’t know why they make such a big deal about it being broasted(most people probably have to google that word anyway). Chicken was juicy and«broasted» to perfection, but it tasted like it needed seasoned. I found myself dumping salt on it to give it flavor. It’s one of the blander fried/broasted chicken coatings I’ve eaten. So, they cook it really well(juicy, great texture, etc) but they fall way short on flavor. They have a weekday AYCE lunch buffet that is $ 8.75(not including tax/tip) and includes your beverage. Buffet has things like broasted chicken, alfredo pasta, spaghetti, mashed potatoes, corn, and the like. Iced tea is good. Service is friendly and attentive.

It was with a very sad face that I write this review of Millard Roadhouse(I grew up with it being called the stockade). Went last night and it sure isn’t what it was. The chicken I got fried/broasted was nearly burnt. I like well done, but this was burnt tasting. Which I guess I should have been happy about because it least it was a flavor as nothing else had any. I had a daily deal coupon from the Omaha World Herald. $ 30 worth of product from this place. So the waitress saw the coupon when we got there and said«I’ll take that now» which was fine. Then about ½ through our meal she brought the check. Our total was only $ 23 because we had planned on ordering desert along with the meal to use the entire coupon value. Why would we just give up $ 7 worth of value. So I said«well we’re going to order desert too» she said, oh the manager already ran you bill and coupon so if you want desert you’ll have to pay for it seperate. She said the manager couldn’t change it once ran. To me that’s more or less theft and I’m sure it made the manager(who is also the owner) a little extra money. Don’t run those coupon deals if you won’t want to honor them. But don’t trick people. Won’t be back again. Go a little further up the street to Cracker Barrel(even though it’s a chain) the service is much better and the food is always good.

Gross. Just because you’ve been around forever and are a legend in your small town doesn’t mean you can get away with a dilapidated dirty building. We sat at the bar and had a beer and appetizers just to check it out. The bar top was splintering since the varnish probably wore off 10 years ago. I could see rotting wood next to the soda dispenser behind the bar too. Then our chips and salsa came out and something white(sour cream? Cheese maybe?) was in the salsa unintentionally. The wait staff on the whole were all under 23 years old I’m sure. They congregated in the doorway to the kitchen looking at their phones and chatting, walking around, watching TV. The final straw for me was the bathroom, YUK. You have to at least try to take care of the place. Put a little money into the GD bar at least and get it refinished. If everything out on the floor seems dirty, I don’t even want to think about kitchen.

Come for the lunch buffet, or at least that’s what I do. Quick, easy and always decent. The homemade ranch dressing is very good on a very limited salad bar. Variety is good with fried chicken as the staple item. I’ve only ordered off the menu once at dinner, which has a ton of selections, it was good. The whole party was satisfied and price is fair. Wait staff are always friendly and drinks have always stayed full. Typical roadhouse atmosphere with a lot of wood and TVs everywhere. Always clean too.

This place has been around for decades and I have been recently going here again since I started working in the area. I can usually get in and out of here in a half hour during lunch(and it looks like they have a lunch buffet option also). Recently I have tried the fried chicken at dinner which arrived hot and crisp with a well cooked baked potato. Enjoyable. I would not put the best in Omaha tag on it-but it is above average. After the Omaha World Herald did their«Chicken Fried Steak Food Crawl» and named Millard Roadhouse one of the best-a group of my friends decided to try it out together. We discovered in our conversation online about the article that we too all had a passion for a good chicken fried steak. About seven us of hit up lunch here and six of us ordered the CFS correctly with the white gravy and one traitor went with the brown. A lot of food arrived for each of us individually and it became a «who can finish challenge» also at this point. Everyone of us agreed that this was the best chicken fried steak or very close to it in Omaha. Décor is partially lived in «road house» and partially quaint small town. It works for the area and food. Service averages out as good on recent trips. My recent chicken experience was a bit annoying with the waiter making too many trips at my table early on and really none after the food was delivered. Honestly seemed like a newer server. The woman we had at the lunch was one of the best waitresses I have experienced in Omaha. Friendly, funny and she did everything just right. This is high 4 star for me.
