No More Cups is a pretty good neighborhood coffee shop located on 10th Street just south of downtown. I dropped by on a rainy Sunday afternoon and enjoyed a cup of coffee that was served in an actual coffee mug and that was just hot enough that I didn’t burn myself taking the first sip.

Came here for some coffee and to get a few things done for work. Loved the atmosphere and their Chai Latte was supurb. They use the best coffee beans(Archetype) and tea(Tea Smith) in town. I will absolutely return for more.

Firstly, I want to mention the latte. I know the coffee beans used are from archetype, but the product is not equal. The taste is beyond the reaches of what is created at archetype. Just delicious. I think that the barista’s infuse the latte with positive vibes, and the taste buds are picking it up. Beyond the incredible coffee drinks, the atmosphere is excellent. The color scheme and the overall décor(which includes many beautiful indoor plants) sets up a nice and calm atmosphere. They also have a nice patio, and a private meeting room. I’m almost hesitant to leave a review because I want to keep this hidden gem all to myself. But I highly recommend. Good people with a good mission(non-profit combating food deserts in Omaha).

This place was formerly Echo Coffee, not sure why they changed names to No More Empty Cups, but it looks like they’re collaborating with No More Empty Pots, the umbrella organization to help the community through volunteering and partnering with schools for teaching students about healthy eating and entrepreneurship. Such a good idea! Their coffee was good, the barista taking care and attention to prepare each cup of coffee, or in my case, chai tea with nutmeg on top. In the summer, their sliding doors stand open, inviting all passer-bys to come in and check out their cool space in the south downtown area of Omaha, an area riddled with abandoned housing, but also older mom-and-pop shops and young new businesses to boot. All in all, there’s a piano and really yummy lunch/snack foods typical of local coffee shops.

So much potential… It’s a cute lil joint with a big wall of windows overlooking the Grace University campus on 10th Street. I wish sooo bad that I could rely on them a little more though. I just can’t get past the inconsistencies and today’s visit might be my last, sadly. For almost a year now the new management has been promising to offer a small food menu. However, I think almost every time I’ve come in, I haven’t been able to get the item I wanted… out of eggs, ran out of dressing, didn’t get their scone delivery, etc. Ok, not a big deal; I’ve just learned to never come hungry. What really gets me though is the environment. It should be a great atmosphere. It’s quaint, comfortable, with cozy chairs and tables that I could potentially sit at all day. It is never calm or peaceful though. On numerous occasions, the barista was sitting behind the bar watching a movie on her DVD very loudly. Distracting. One day the owners had designers and movers in and were rearranging and poking and prodding all over the place. Bad timing on my end, I understand. Today, a mom and her 6 and 2 year old sons were in destroying the place. She spoke as though she was in the first row at a concert… She let her kids run wild, even leaving them unattended numerous times. They banged on the piano, threw pillows, yelled, cried, and bothered guests. It has absolutely never been an environment conducive for homework. I don’t know what Aromas, Muglife, or any other coffee shop would’ve done in similar situations but I have NEVER experienced anything like I do at No More Empty Cups anywhere else. I obviously don’t expect peace and quiet serenity but spending more than 15 minutes at that place is miserable. I think they just need to take it up a notch and either be a coffee shop or a circus.
