Donahoo’s Golden Chicken

Great food. Chicken was perfectly fried. Rolls are amazing and giblets were to die for. Ambience is not happening here
Orders are to go only, however the taste makes up for that. I will definitely be back.

Love the chicken, everything is delicious! Always one of my favorites when I’m in the area.

Seeing this brings back memories of being a little girl and my mother would go here. I think it was the other location on Garey ave. either way this place is the REAL DEAL. As soon as I go back home to Cali I’ll have to stop in for the nostalgia. Best chicken ever.

Bread rolls are good. Macaroni side was very average as well as the fries. The chicken was a big disappointment. I read the reviews and was therefore expecting more. Churches Chicken has more flavor than this one and less expensive to boot.

First and foremost you can smell the well seasoned chicken in the parking lot. Unfortunately parking is awful, but the chicken makes up for it. Just FYI… The business is cash only. Customer service is offered with a smile.

It was my first time here. I had a taste for some food fried chicken and this place is right up the street. All I can say is WOW! I had the chicken wing dinner and the liver snack box. The livers were amazing… not as good as my moms but close. Prices are reasonable as well. Nice amount of food. If you don’t tell them otherwise they will put the salad dressing on the salad. Unless you are eating it immediately tell them to put it on the side. I didn’t know this. The rolls are fresh and delicious! Call in your order if you can in case they are busy. There was a wait time of 30 minutes but it was so worth it. Looking forward to visiting this place again.

Too good! Made fresh when ordered. Chicken pieces are big (including the wings) and so are the bread rolls.
We got lunch/​dinner boxes so our sides (potato and macaroni salad) were very small but you also get seasoned fries which are more like a large side (unless you get the lite meals).
They had a sign for tiki punch soda I believe but other than that, gotta go elsewhere for drinks. Smart & Final across the street worked well.
It’s in a sketchy shopping center and it’s cash only (ATM inside). But since our food was going to take 15 minutes, we stopped at a bank to avoid the extra fees.

Great tasting chicken and well seasoned. Fries and wedges were good too. Potato salad and macaroni salad are not good, unless you like them tasting like your eating a pickle. Next time I have to try the giblets!

Absolutely love this place. Yeah I know it’s fried chicken and not the healthiest, but whenever you feel like having the best, come here. Been coming here for many years and everyone I introduce to this place becomes a fan! Wish they had somewhere to sit down, but maybe it’s better they don’t because it would be dangerous for me. Ontario location best.

Been eating at Donahoo’s my entire life.
Literally.The best fried chicken I’ve ever had.
I also love the fried giblets that are soooo tender and the pan fried livers.
The rolls are huge and delicious. One of my favorite places

We really want to give this place a great review because for the price you get alot of chicken. But alas everything is bland. From the dinner roll to the fried chicken. It was cooked perfectly but it needed some seasoninng, secret herb or whatever.
You should still try it because it’s affordable and the people are nice. Maybe a bit more seasoninng next time!

First time in years I’ve had chicken liver and fried giblets at a restaurant. They did I it just like I would have at home and while my co-​worker and I were waiting, we got to sample a couple other things.
Really good, very southern and delicious.

Mmm Mmm good! Stopped by this place at lunch and got the a la carte plate with 4 pieces of mouthwatering fried chicken & a buttered biscuit– it was absolutely delicious! The food here is made to order so it Took about 15 minutes but it was well worth the wait. Cash only

I stopped here for lunch the other day, and have mixed feelings about this place. It’s definitely a dive location, and the fact they have no tables (take-​out only) and only accept cash was an inconvenience.
As far as the food goes, (I’ll get to the chicken last) the fries were good and the macaroni salad was meh. The service was good, and folks were friendly. My food was made to order reasonably quickly.
On to the chicken. It was prepared well, battered well, fried well, and was a quality piece of chicken. Ever notice that some people use crummy chicken? Nope not this place. A nice white meat breast that was juicy and meaty.
So what’s my beef? I thought it was bland. It definitely needed seasoning of some sort, at least salt and pepper in the batter if not something more interesting or spicy. It was a let down in this respect, if they could just do something to make the coating more flavorful I would have given it a better rating. It was «good» but not «yummy» if you know what I mean.

Great Chicken! Place is very clean and the value is good. The only thing was waiting for our lunch meal was too long (15 – 20 min wait). Definitely coming back and pre order our lunch before arriving.

Fantastic chicken! If you have a few moments to wait, you could indulge in some freshly made fried goodies cooked to order. Nothing is pre cooked! The chicken was battered and fried shortly after I ordered. AWESOME! However, I have to knock them for the store bought bag of frozen fries. Even though they put their house seasoning on the fries, it kills the magic of the fresh homemade approach. CUT YOUR OWN TATERS!!! Aside from that, I dig this place. It beats KFC by miles!!! Also, due to their homemade style cooking they beat Popeyes too! However, Popeyes has them beat on the sides. Anyway, this place is definitely worth a try. Take it from a me, I should know my fried chicken! Bomb! Hahahaha So overall, good customer service, great chicken, average sides, cash only and no restroom equal 3 stars. Judging the chicken only, 4 stars. Really really good but not the best I’ve ever had. However, I would go back.

On that note… I had to do another update after coming here again last week, I got to meet the owner in person and he is awesome! He remembered us and was so friendly, now he has to-​go menus which definitely come in handy so you can call when your half way there especially if you travel far like us.
We ate a feast for $ 30.00! 3 boxed lunches (roll+french fries+a side), an order of gizzards and 3 extra rolls because their CRACK!
The food is so fresh and not greasy like most chicken spots, yes it does take to make the food but in the end it is sooo worth it! He gave me a roll fresh out of the oven while we were waiting for our food and it was AMAZING! Fresh food and dining on a budget? I’m SOLD! His potato salad and coleslaw are just as good, the texture of the potato salad is heaven, I don’t know how he gets the texture but its like eating clouds of potatoes!
Just remember don’t judge a book by its cover considering how Donahoo’s looks on the outside, it’s the delicious inside that counts! ^_^

I don’t give a damn what the bad to semi bad reviews say. This place is the SHIZ!
I think some people think ma and pa chicken spots should automatically be placed in the black folks fried chicken category! This place does their own damn thing. It’s straight forward fried food!
So moms and I came in knowing this time around you have to have cash on deck, we don’t like using bootleg atm machines. Don’t trust that ish LOL Boss man I assume was kinda dry, but im assuming this guy rarely cracks a smile anyway. So moms and I have a mad craving for wings anytime, all the time! So we ordered the wing meal and that comes with a side, roll and fries. While we waited we noticed they had gizzards and ordered those as well! We LOVE gizzards especially FRIED!!! So we waited and made a new friend :) So food was ready within 15 minutes and we rushed over to the car and started piggin out like some fatso’s :D
The chicken smelled so good! We started GRUUUUUUUBBBBBIN! Everything was so fresh. The chicken was on point. This place has their own thing when it comes to taste. So you can’t compare to others. This chicken was NOT greasy, it was crispy and quite flavorful, not salty at all. The fries were BOMB, don’t be fooled by the look of those ore-​ida frozen fries, if these were them they must have done something to them to not make them taste frozen LOL. Those fries were crack! The sides were fresh and did not taste store bought. Real potato salad and my mom loved their cole slaw. The gizzards were on point!!! Not so many places we can find that serve fried gizzards. Only my yakitori spot really. I had constant mouthgasms throughout the whole meal.
OH and make me a dozen of those CRACK rolls too!
Mom and I were VERY pleased with our meal and seriously aching to go again!!!
