Came here to give it a try again with the new owners… My kids loved and my Husband. Best pastrami in town. The fries oh to die for. A very friendly staff. Will be coming back. Thank goodness for the owners bringing it back to life. A part of my childhood.

My memories of Grinder Haven act as my gold standard for sandwiches. I loved going here as a child and then visiting California and going out of my way to eat here in the early 2000’s. My girlfriend and I stopped by in 2008 and it was heartbreakingly terrible. I would have rather gone to subway. Now I read reviews that it is now much better so my now wife and I decide to stop by. They have a B! You have to have major issues to have a B. Yuck. Get an A and we’ll talk.

This place seems to be overrated. Service was SLOW and the food was not worth the wait. Won’t go back.

We’ve only came for the cold mix combo and it’s always good. The bread is great and the meats always fresh. And now for my first time, I felt like a kid receiving their Rootbeer float!

OHYEAH!!! THEORIGINALGRINDERHAVENISBACK!!! I am 46 years old and my family has been coming here since they opened when my mom was a little girl. The bester grinders ever. Then about 5 or 6 years ago the original owner died and the family sold it. New place got rid of the original home made bread, changed the company they bought the meat from, made this huge menu from breakfast burritos to burgers to shrimp cocktail — absolutely crazy and of course quality dropped. NEVERWENTBACK… NOR did any many of the original regulars… Then the other day my husband, family and I were driving by and saw the sign«UNDERNEWMANAGEMENT» so sometimes we craved this place so we decided to try it once again… SOGLADWEDID… The NEWOWNERS scaled down the menu… They once again HANDMAKETHEBREAD… so it is back to the nice crispty French roll on the outside and soft middle. The meat taste as it did before nice high quality. So excited!!! The fries are back too… We have been back now 1 once a week and so happy they are back. They do have Pizza now. have to try it… it looks good but they make the dough fresh, so if it is as good as the bread then I am sure it’s a hit… the review on the pizza looks good. But can’t get enough of the grinder… The best Pastrami ever, and the ham, turkey etc is absolutely delish… the whole family is doing the HAPPYDANCE!!!

Been wanting to try out for years. Finally did so. Only regret is procrastinating so long. Try the chicken noodle soup

Sandwich was absolutely amazing! Fresh meat! Could definitely tell it wasn’t processed meat. The bread was AMAZING perfectly crunchy and crisp on the outside and on the inside fluffy and soft. My fries came out nice and hot and the seasoning on them was great. Would definitely recommend this little place won’t be just driving by anymore!

Great ham and cheese on toasted roll. Tastes like the original back in the day. Wednesday specials are great. They also have a pastrami pizza that is unreal.

My mom had been coming to this place ever since she was a little girl with my grandparents… and now I’m her 21 year daughter who was raised coming here as well. I love family owned mom ‘n pop type of places. The man who works here really gives it his all, along with the rest of staff. You can tell they appreciate the business. The food is just amazing ! My favorite is their classic hot pastrami, The bread is nice n toasted with plenty of meat inside. I’d recommend trying the new potato salad, it’s homemade as well ! Yumm perfect pairing.

I went here with some customers on a favorite customers recommendation. I had a turkey sandwich and it was amazing. The bread is very very good and I love an Italian style sandwich. It’s a dive but highly recommended!

So I have passed the spot many, many times without consideration due to it being old and dingy looking. I finally took a shot and stopped by today while working right down the street and boy was I surprised. The menu isn’t huge, they only offer a small menu but what they offer is crazy good. Hamburgers, sandwiches, pizza, calzones, lasagna, fries. onion rings. Everything I love. I ordered a simple Turkey grinder with fries. The meat and cheese quality tasted like I ordered Boars Head brand directly cut from the deli. Im not sure the brand but its awesome. The bread was crunchy on the outside and pillow soft on the inside. I also ordered a side of fries but was completely disappointed. I must have been served the fries that were sitting from a previous order. None the less Im going back tomorrow to try a Calzone. After I returned to work with my food I showed my cousin who told me my family has been going there for over 30 years. I was like WTF Dick, why didn’t you ever share this spot with me? Then he said the older half of the family used to frequent the spot when they were kids. Long story short Ill be bringing my family here to enjoy the great food they offer.

I have been coming to The Grinder Haven for over 20 years now. Fond memories of sharing pastrami sandwiches and fries with my parents when I was little. The Grinder Haven has recently opened under new management/ownership and I can safely say they have brought the magic back that was part of this place in excess of 10 years ago. The pastrami is once again delicious with plenty of meat on the sandwich. The recently started serving pizza with the addition of a new pizza oven, it’s delicious… ample cheese and toppings and the dough its really good with a nice thickness. I gave them 4⁄5 stars for 2 reasons, one being their closing times. 6pm is too early for my liking to, though as of last week they are now open til 9p.m. On Fridays and Saturdays. And the other being the lettuce on the sandwich, idk if its the fast that it is too finely shredded, or also the lettuce they use but I was not a fan and made it difficult to stay in the sandwich. Overall. Highly recommend, also, CALLAHEAD. Makes for a much better experience.

I’ve passed this little spot a few times and every time I do I always tell myself I need to try this place. Let me say I love little establishments like this one. I finally had the opportunity to pay this place a visit today and I made just before they closed. The food and the service is great. This is my new favorite spot. Fan for life right here!

Wow!!! This place is freaking fabulous. We had the pastrami and fried zucchini. The food was hot, excellent and very affordable. The bread was like the old Grinder Haven… Not overwhelming and very soft. We can’t recommend this place enough.

I’m loving their pizza, it’s priced pretty competitively, but the difference between the corporate chains and Grinder Haven; they make the dough by hand, no machines and the guy also preps a robust sauce and the dough tastes amazing on it’s own, the flavors coalesce to make a stand out«Mom & Pop» pizza with a price that’s more than fair 5.99 for 1 topping large. My only gripe about the pizza: they don’t do ½ topping + ½ topping = 1 topping, they will charge for 2 toppings, it’s still a great price for handmade pizza from scratch. The other thing I love here is the Roast Beef, it’s cooked in house, no pressed roll when it comes to the roast beef, the bread is made here as well. The last 3 or 4 visits I’ve been enjoying their root beer floats, they scoop in a ton of ice cream and pour in some barq’s, I get mine without the maraschino cherries as they top their floats with a handful of them. The ice cream’s so cold it creates a slush out of the root beer making a delicious blend of root beer and vanilla ice cream.

I have been coming here my whole life that’s almost 30 years and I can’t see myself ever not coming here! New management or not there capicolas are everything. Only down fall; this last time I came I ordered two sandwiches showed up and he handed me one. I specifically ordered ahead of time because my son had just gotten out of surgery and we were stopping by on the way home we proceeded to wait for them to make our second sandwich but as he called it out when it was ready I watched him give my sandwich to somebody else… Then I had to wait again ! I know it was mine because he told me «oops that was your sandwich» ummm helloooo… Wish I could knock them down ¼ star. But since I cant, I will leave them at the full five stars. The reason for the ¼ star neg. would be due to how it was handled. I would’ve appreciated an apology or some sort of efforts as far as customer service goes.

Went to this place with high hopes craving a simple Italian sub like I’ve grown up eating at EVERY sub shop in the north east. I was sorely disappointed. What kind of sub shop doesn’t offer an Italian? The guy claimed that the cold meat combo was the same thing so I took his word. I asked for the half but he claimed it only came in full(the menu clearly stated it came in half). Whatever no big deal. If this sandwich is even remotely like what I’m craving I won’t mind saving the second half for later. However, that was simply not the case. What I received instead was a foot long full of subway grade meats and soggy lettuce and tomato. To say the least it was bland and boring. And to top it off it costed me over 10 bucks! If I were you I’d save the dough and go to the nearest subway instead.

They’re under new management. They changed the bread they use for their sandwiches. . Bring back the original bread. Why would you ruin a great sandwich and OVER drench it with oil? And now you’re making pizza? Come on… I’m sorry. I can’t go back to this place…

I have wanted to eat at Grinder Haven for years as my brother used to work nearby so I’d drive by often. It looks like a delicious landmark from the outside! We finally took the plunge and did it and what a disappointment! They only have outside seating, but to look inside at the food prep area it looks old and makeshift. Our sandwiches were very generic the service really wasn’t any better.
