This review is for the breakfast at Syl’s. The joint has classic old booths, and appears to be the sort of cheap mom n’ pop place that would have my thrifty German relatives thrilled. The food is abundant and inexpensive. My two egg breakfast clearly had three eggs. Maybe the chef cannot count ;)? The coffee was about what I would expect, hot and plentiful, but if you like dark roast or Italian style coffee, this is much more Folgers/Maxwell House. The staff was pleasant. I could see the cook in the back whipping up our food. Their up north décor is limited to a trapping joke. There are few choices up here, so you are a captive audience.

I’d like to give 4 just for the pizza but just can’t due to the service. Once we were noticed which took about 10 minutes we ordered a couple of pizzas which were very good. Our«waitress» maybe I should say social butterfly was more interested in the latest gossip than waiting tables. The flies surrounding the uncleared tables were disgusting. We never got our check ended up walking to register telling them what we had.

We stopped here for lunch before a day hike. The staff was friendly and the food was good. Hit the doughnut display before you go for a little added juice on the trail! The mini pasties and homemade soup were the perfect thing to warm us up before heading out.

Not too many choices in the area. The food is pretty good at this diner. We ate here a couple of times and the service was hit or miss.

Really enjoyed it, especially the homemade pies. It’s a classic, small town café, and within that genre, it’s quite good.

Great food and good prices. I had a pastie that was among the best I ever had. Sweet potato fries with honey mustard sauce was great too. My wife, my sob, and I had a great meal and picked up some baked goods for about $ 40 with tip.

First visit while on vacation. Had pasties the best I have ever eaten. Will definitely recommend to anyone else traveling in this area.

Pizza was great– daily made dough and cheese on it was great. Sour cream and chive fries were great– so crunchy, they clearly fry at the right temp here. I got the local food, pasty. The pasty outside was great. I did not care for the inside, but it was my first time trying that food. The food came fairly slowly. When we got there all tables were dirty, so we chose the least dirty. The check out stand/bakery area seemed dirty– we sat next to it. Maybe they were having an off day. But that pizza and fries were top notch!

My husband and I had two meals here during our stay in The Porkies! We got a wrap and a pasty for lunch, saw some people with a pizza and came back for dinner. Both meals were great! They also had the best vanilla doughnut I’ve ever had in my life!

After hiking and camping in the woods, Syl’s was the perfect respite. I had a bacon cheeseburger and it was pretty good, but the highlight was the beer battered French fries. My dad had a pasty and it was really good just make sure to get it with gravy. Before leaving, we had to get donuts from the bakery and those were really the best part of this place. Definitely go here instead of Porky’s Pub and Grub.

We had two meals here while on vacation to the Porkies. Definitely THE place to eat while staying in Ontonagon. The service is very friendly and quick. It is a place where you see quite a few regulars and locals. First day we ate breakfast here. They have the regular diner fare and everything we ordered tasted good. Between the four of us we ordered the French toast, Veggie omelette, pancakes and eggs. Everything tasted fresh and delicious. We came back the same night for dinner again(there is a serious lack of restaurants in the town). We ordered the white fish, veggie melt, a pasty and the turkey tortilla wrap. Their portion sizes are big, all the food tasted good. Their curly fries are crisp and delicious.

Low key location for a great meal while on our vacation in the UP. Great pasties, pizza and baked goods that were amazing. Great service in a unique hometown atmosphere.

I don’t understand all of the great reviews. The menu was ‘ehh.’ I went with a straightforward burger and fries. It’s started off so great… The bun looked light and delicious, the tomato and fancy lettuce bright and crisp… then they ruin it all by putting a manufactured frozen meat patty on it. Dumb. The service was great. The waitress was very accommodating when I came in at 8:30(they close at 9). It’s probably the best option in Ontanogin. There aren’t really any other options for food.

In Ontonagon for business so there are few choices. Syl’s is hands down the go-to joint around here. Tried something different each time and it hasn’t disappointed yet.

Everything here is amazing. EVERYTHING. Only good place to eat in this town. Bitchin chicken sandwich on pretzel bun. Soups are on point.

Great tasting food at reasonable prices. Pies are awesome. I especially liked the onion rings and burger. Buns seemed homemade and were very tasty.

Great food; classic comfort diner with a diverse menu to suit everyone’s needs. The service is so ridiculous it’s comical! Our waitress is oblivious and relaxed. Patrons are getting up to get their own coffee. Our waitress forgot half out coffees and We are fairly certain she forgot to submit the ticket to kitchen for a solid 20 minutes. Honestly, I highly recommend this place anyway. You’d have to see it to believe it!

The baked walleye and haddock are both really taste. Portions are small-ish, but the quality makes up for the quantity. ALL of the baked goods are delightful. And, of course, the pastys are divine. Makes me wish I was still eating flour and sugar. Try everything!
