I’ve been coming the Papa Joe’s since I was a kid with my grandparents. Stopped in for the first time in years last week and it’s still just as good as ever. I ordered the same thing I used to get as a boy. A big pork special with a sweet tea, and everything was exactly how I remembered it, which is a very good thing. Food is great and fairly priced, and the girls behind the counter are always very nice.

I would put Papa Joe’s chipped pork and mild sauce on ANY best of Alabama BBQ list. Has been outstanding for decades — a real local treasure!

Driven by the place 100s of times and finally turned in. Should have made that right years ago — very good, very local BBQ. On 2nd Ave? Make the turn.

Had the chipped pork(chopped into fine pieces and mixed with barbecue sauce and slaw) and a sliced beef sandwich. The pork was not of the highest quality. Several pieces were very, very tough. I won’t be getting this again. The sliced beef was mediocre, but better than the pork. The sauces were surprisingly good though. They offer two options: hot and mild. I opted for one of each. Both sauces contained decent amounts of vinegar, and the hot was not very hot. Buns were typical Wonder brand buns. Slaw was relatively sweet. Pork costs $ 3.35 or 4.35(little or big) and beef is 3.80 or 4.80(little or big). They offer chipped, chopped, or sliced. Also have corn dogs, fries, BBQ baked potatoes, and«specials»(sandwich, fries, and drink). AYCE beef on Wednesdays, and they sell by the pound. Not the nicest place you’ll go, but the service is fast, and the people are relatively friendly. Food isn’t the best quality, and the prices aren’t cheap but not expensive either. It’s a borderline 2 star/3 star in my book, but I’ll bump them to 3 because the sauces were decent.

Like all good BBQ restaurants in Auburn, AL, Papa Joe’s is among many in a good way. This shows that BBQ is what Auburn does best. This building is hard to spot especially at night. Even with the sign lit up, you can hardly read the words. It takes a few U-turns to get this right. The restaurant was musky but had the authentic appearance of a grimy BBQ restaurant somewhere in the South. The employees gave recommended the Little Pork Special and they had my meal ready in 30 seconds. The chipped pork had lots of flavor and loved the fries came as wedges. This was enough to feed me and be happy with what I paid for.

Great beef barbecue sandwich and on Wednesday — all u can eat pork plate with 2 sides and a drink. It may not look like much, but the cue is good and affordable.

i was just there on friday to order 3 big pork specials with everything on it like my brother told me to order. my brother said everything include coleslaw and pickles. i was a bit hesitant to put coleslaw on my bbq pork but since he recommended i did. was i wrong. i should have just stick to the bbq pork with just pickles. coleslaw was very little on the burn and they were brown and tasted funny. i didn’t like it at all. the steak fries were good but they give u so little of it. they could be little more generous with their portions for the price. they are not expensive at any means(actually reasonable) but come on this is a hole in the wall – so they should give better portion than a 10 sticks of steak fries. i don’t know if i want to return here or not b/c there are lots of other good bbq places around now.
