I have not dined at Gilbey’s but I still have nothing but praise. My Dad was celebrating his 85th birthday. He and my Step-mom were attending a homeowners association meeting at Gilbey’s for lunch. I called the restaurant and spoke with the manager, Tyler. Tyler could not have been more helpful or accommodating. After hearing the story, Tyler offered to deliver a birthday dessert to my Dad, complete with candles. Tyler refused any money. Based upon customer service alone, I would highly recommend Gilbey’s. My parents loved the food so Gilbeys will become a new family favorite.

Food was good. Had a large group. Recommend the Salmon or the Steak Sandwich at lunch.

I came here on a Sunday night in the wintertime. I say this because it’s not tourist season and there are hardly any other restaurants open on a Sunday night in Orange Beach around this time. In fact, my friend and I attempted to go a few restaurants before coming here, and despite the posted hours on Unilocal saying they were open, they were closed. So if it’s Sunday and you’re looking for grub, call the restaurant first. I had a seafood pasta dish which pretty much had scallops and such in a yummy/creamy fettuccini alfredo. Fettuccini alfredo is my ratatouille and it definitely hit the spot. The service was pretty great and it better have been since there weren’t that many patrons. I give my server props for trying to up sell for more delicious food with lots of descriptive adjectives of their menu items and specials. I’d recommend coming here – it’s a solid joint for decent food especially if there’s no other options.

First visit here, we have been to Ginny Lane and really enjoyed it. Here, not so much. Service was fast and friendly. The soup of the day was chili, and it was very good. My wife got the salmon and risotto and enjoyed it. I got the Hisin? BBQ ribs, recommended by our server. They were(in my opinion) the worst ribs I have ever tasted. The sauce tasted like it was a reduction sauce based with molasses and soy(yuck)!. Not a hint of BBQ flavor and they were dry. I couldn’t eat it. I had maybe two bones. The cole slaw was great, so I ate that and the potato. We mentioned to the server that I did not care for the ribs. We saw her tell the manager(owner?). But when our check came it was full price($ 22). When you ask for details about the ribs and all she says is «they’re really good», I should have asked more questions. If they’d given me at least a discount I probably wouldn’t have written this negative of a review. Maybe others will like that sauce, but there is no way you should describe it as BBQ.

First, the server was great. Very sweet and attentive. I ordered the beet salad with shrimp($ 14). There wasn’t much to it at all. A few handfuls of greens, the slightest amount of beets possible, some goat cheese not much else. Left hungry. The bread is bland, nothing special like at other local establishments.

I had the habenaro lime wings and they barely had any flavor. My friend had the fish and chips and he said the same thing. The tartar sauce needs improvement also. The service was great and the atmosphere as well, also the have military discount(15%).

Not a memorable meal at all. *This is actually a 1.5 star review.* The only positive thing about this experience were the fried shrimp.(Being f/New Orleans, I appreciated them being fried to perfection.) There were only about a handful of people in the restaurant and our food was still sub par and our waitress was inattentive.

Fabulous server who was very knowledgable. She was also very accommodating for our vegetarian cousin. I know it is hard to find something at a seafood restaurant, but she tried! They also split an entrée for me and my daughter and Put it on two separate plates. This was above and beyond toe because most restaurants will not take the time to place the even amount of food on each plate. Very nice of them! The atmosphere is high class but also casual enough to wear shorts and flip flops. I was very happy with this pace and i would recommend it highly!

While on vacation in the Gulf Shores area our entire group of two dozen went out to dinner together one time. After a few failed calls the afternoon before, we finally made a reservation at Gilbey’s Seafood & Steak the following evening. Upon our arrival we found three large tables were reserved for us at the rear of the restaurant. This was perfect as we had let them know earlier that we did not all need to sit together. But with all the tables in the same area it was almost like we had our own dining room. I started with a garden salad($ 2.95 addition to an entrée) with spring mix, shaved carrots, tomatoes, and garlic croutons. There wasn’t anything special about the salad, but the ingredients were fresh. I would have paid an extra dollar for the pecan goat cheese salad, had that been an option. For dinner I went with the only chicken dish on the menu, which featured mushrooms, caramelized onions, BBQ sauce, and white cheddar. This was served on top of sour cream and chive mashed potatoes with a few sautéed green beans($ 19). The dish was plentiful in size featuring two large chicken breasts. The combination of mushroom and BBQ was not something I’ve seen before and it actually worked quite well. Overall a very solid dish. Gilbey’s is a great place for a large group meal. Our service was quick especially considering the size of our party. And most of the group seemed happy with their meals.

We had a party of 9 and were seated outside because they said they had reservations but half the restaurant stayed empty the entire time we sat outside in the muggy and dark with only one light. We waited 10 mins before we got drinks. Then 10 more mins for someone to take our order, 15 for them to bring our tea and salads. We waited a total of 1 hr before our food arrive. We didn’t have our drinks refilled but once. They messed up our order and was had to ask 2 and 3 times for sauces. The waitress never asked me how I wanted my steak cooked, so it came out WELLDONE. I realize I should have said how I wanted it cooked, however that is a waitresses job to say«how would u like that cooked». So I paid $ 30 for a WD steak! I also asked for white cheddar potatoes and they were just regular mashed potatoes with no salt. The over experience was terrible.

Nothing was forgettable about this meal. My husband enjoyed the jambalaya which was crafted with light noodles(not your average out of the box noodle) which provided for an amazing base for smoked ham and sautéed shrimp. The creole sauce finished the dish off to an exquisite perfection. I opted for the gilbey burger. I’m so glad I did. My burger was placed on a brioche bun which made the entire sandwich as light as a cloud. Overall the experience was amazing the staff are wonderful and accommodating.

***Great Food & Service*** We arrived at 8pm with a party of 10 on a Thursday night. The staff was fantastic, they had a table ready for us very quickly and the server was greeting us within a minute of sitting down. All 10 people were pleased with their meals. A couple people had steak(good seasoning, cooked perfectly), smothered chicken was excellent and lobster mac&cheese was crazy good. We will definitely add this to our must list to visit every time we are in the area.

Average food and drinks. In an area that has pretty competitive restaurants it offers OK food and no dishes that make you say«I can’t wait to come back!» Not bad in any way, just not memorable also in any way. I can’t honestly say I will come back and try again. Too many better options around.

We moved to Orange Beach back in August and have been eating a lot of seafood since then. I had a craving for steak so we tried Gilby’s. My ribeye steak was cooked perfectly and it was delicious. My friend had a fillet which was also prepared perfectly. We definitely will be back.
