Freshest fish I’ve had in any OC sushi place. Been several times and they’ve consistently had great food. Prices are average so it’s great value for quality of fish. The owner is old school and will serve you special plates at the sushi bar. Kind of a hidden location, but nice inside.

The food was OK but it took FOREVER for the food to come out! We literally sat and waited for at least 45 minutes after ordering before the chef came. It may just be that they are understaffed(they were pretty nice, just soooo slow!), but it made our experience less than great.

Sushi is amazing!!! Sushi chefs entertaining and friendly. Great quality fish. Best tuna boat ever!!! Love this place! They also have teppan so there is alway some party in the background, but you still feel far enough away when sitting at the sushi bar.

We love this place. Staff is friendly, sushi chefs are quick and always give a little extra. Everyone makes you feel like family. Fish is fresh, melts in your mouth goodness. Now we have a baby and he is welcome here too!

I eat here at least once a month because it’s so close to me and still can’t figure out why the service is so bad. Everyone is very nice but if you judge service on refills you’ll be disappointed. I think the issue is in the kitchen as the few servers they have go behind the magic curtain and disappear for a long time. When they re-appear I’m ready for the check. Oh yeah. Teppanyaki show is good as these guys came from Shiki. Sushi is just ok but the sushi bar has 2 – 3 chefs working so it’s the place to be if you want some service.

This is a super late post. I came here a few weeks ago, and my experience was pretty great here. It was my first time at one of these benihana-type places, and I loved it. They did take awhile to seat us and bring out drinks and such, but the food itself was amazing. I got the filet mignon, and it was so much food. I could have honestly made 2 meals out of it, but it was so tender and delicious. The rice needed a little more flavor, but our chef was so awesome and entertaining. The salmon sashimi was super fresh and melted in my mouth as well. So good!

Ok here it goes. Used to go to the same Tabi-ji when it was in Anaheim. This is supposedly the new one. This place is so unorganized. No hostess to get you, second time. People just standing in front wondering if we all just seat ourselves. Horrible business ethics. None of the workers came to get anyone. It took the sushi chefs to point is it that is and 2 other groups came in. One group just came in and left after the other couple told them no one even came to take their names down. Don’t know if the one lady working there was the manager but she looked like she might be and she seemed too busy to notice anyone coming in. Seems like she should pay attention to the front or have a hostess do that for her. The quality of food is not even close to exceptional. Crunchy rolls I’ve had before at other places, usually were warm but at this place it was cold. Kinda like the rice and shrimp were sitting around for awhile. The tempura ponko(the crunchy garnish on top) tasted stale. The teriyaki chicken had cartilage in it, so be careful when biting down. I did like the flavor of the teriyaki sauce. Shrimp tempura was ok. The Japanese shumai /dumplings were not tasty at all. Overall the second time around this place failed. It was not tasty, and not worth the wait. Maybe this place needs more employees as well. It’s too bad this place would’ve been lost its quality compared to the old one. In the end the lady that looked like the manager did apologize, but the damage is done. Loss of customers prior and lost this one as well. Sorry Maggie for taking you here. We will not come back here again.

Simply put, better than Benihana for less money. Definitely up there in teppan dinner experiences; our chef was great and personable! Of course, the food was amazing too, nothing beats Japanese fried rice. Can’t wait to come back and try their sushi as well!

Many reviews on here about poor service. I called to inquire about hosting a fundraiser at this restaurant for a non-profit and I never received a response when I was told to email all inquiries. Then, when I called to follow up the manager told me «most likely no because we don’t want to close down our restaurant» which is ok, but then said she would ask the owner if I could wait. So I waited and instead she hung up on me. I gave her the benefit of the doubt– thinking it was a mistake, but 15 minutes later they didn’t even call or email back. If a manager and owner gives bad service like this, I can’t imagine what it must be like to be served by the servers. I was thinking about trying this place out regardless– but now I think I will pass.

Too bad. I have been wanting to try this place, and I ended up walking out. Waited over 20 minutes, and no one came to take our order. Several servers came by other tables, but no one cared to stop by ours. I wish I could comment on the food, but all I got was water from the host. Worst service I’ve ever received. Currently writing this from Orange Roll and Sushi down the street.

My friend wanted to go to Tabi-Ji because he used to go to the old Tabi-Ji. Sukiyaki and tempura($ 19.95): served with miso or clear broth, tsunomono, green salad with ginger or miso, and rice. The sukiyaki sauce was pretty good. I wasn’t impressed with the tempura at all. The shrimp tempura tasted like frozen shrimp and the sweet potato tempura was not sweet. All combination dinners come with your choice of chicken kushi, sesame chicken, shumai or baked mussels. I opted for baked mussels and they were not that good. I had teriyaki scallop and sashimi combo on the second visit. The quality of its sashimi was not great, but it was pretty fresh. The scallop was edible. I opted for shiumai for the side and it was not good. The shiumai was pretty much tasteless and hard. There were so many grumpy customers because the hostess was not at the front desk. We all waited a while and finally a customer went inside the dining area to find the hostess. I almost did the same thing too. 2 stars! Tabi-Ji is not yummylicious!

This was my first time trying this restaurant. I’ve lived in the City of Orange for the last 2+ years and I always wondered how this place was. Well, I’m glad my Roomie was craving Teppan, because this restaurant was great! I’ve read on other reviews to call in for a reservation. So called in around 5:15p and the hostess was kind to accommodate us right away.(They opened at 5p) and squeezed us in with another almost filled station. They have 4 altogether. Soon after they took our order, the place filled up for Sunday dinner. The interior and ambiance was that reminiscent of a Japanese courtyard and kind and attentive staff. The chefs were definitely entertaining pulling out all the tricks and flips, and for the average pricing, yet cheaper than Benihana, it was quite the filling meal. All it was missing was a complimentary dessert or something and the miss when they delivered a flat soda and a heavily diluted iced green tea. It was nice that the owner was greeting all the customers tho. I will definitely return and try the sushi next time.

Came here on a Saturday night with a group and we didn’t have to wait to get a table. Setting is nice. Bar spots are more limited that dining tables. Best sushi I’ve had in a long time. Fish was so fresh! Everyone in our party loved it. I personally loved the lollipop roll(from the special menu) because it has no rice and so much flavor. Only thing that bugged us as first time visitors is that the sushi menu is a long list on a piece of paper with some descriptions in the back. I’m a visual person so seeing pictures would have helped me… I did find some pictures on Unilocal.I think this place is still amazing. My favorite.

I had my birthday dinner here last night and it was one that I will never forget. I was thinking of going to Benihana, but seeing how their reviews on Unilocal are dirt poor, I found this restaurant instead. Best decision of my life. I made my reservation here originally for 3 at 7:30pm. We added one more person last minute and they accommodated well. When we arrived they set up our place by the teppanyaki grill. There are four grills total, then a couple of regular tables, and then toward the back of the restaurant they have the sushi bar. There was only one chef last night, his name was Richard, and he was cooking for the table next to us. For a weekday it seemed pretty normal that there weren’t many people eating here(not to mention the place isn’t mainstream and a little hidden). Our server came by to take our drink orders, and when he returned he took our food orders. I didn’t catch his name, but he was dark and hispanic I think. On the menu I chose the Fisherman Plate, it comes with scallops, shrimp and calamari. But on TOP of that, it comes with clear/miso broth soup, salad with miso/ginger dressing, a shrimp appetizer, vegetables, steamed or fried rice(fried rice is extra but soo worth it) and two dipping sauces — one for seafood and one for meat. We waited a while after ordering for the chef to come to us, but the servers made it up to us by giving us a complimentary appetizer. A few minutes later, the chef was done cooking for the other table and came directly to ours with his little chef cart. This guy never quits! he greeted all of us and let us know he will be our cook, then got directly to it. He started by oiling the grill then set it on fire(WHOASOCOOL!). Second, he put rice, veggies, and did a couple tricks with some eggs before including them in the fried rice. The last part is insane. He handed each of us our fried rice bowl and when he got to me, he completely flipped mine without spilling anything. That’s talent. At this point I was already stuffed, but moving on he started preparing our entrees. He stacked onions, poured some oil, and made an onion volcano(insert another WHOASOCOOL! here). He flipped shrimp, grilled filet, cut zucchini, and while we were still eating our fried rice he joked with my dad about him being Irish — Irish don’t eat rice, they eat potatoes. What does this guy do? He gives him a bowl of mashed potatoes out of nowhere! Nowhere that I saw at least. His service is amazing. After all his hard work, he toasted all of us and they brought me a sake bomb. The rest is history. I’ll definitely be returning to eat good quality food from this guy again.
