My co-workers always come here and rant and rave about how great these sandwiches are and the prices are reasonable. I decided to go during my lunch hour. Saw that there were 4 people ahead of me and just one lady working in the deli. The lady seemed older and worked at her own pace, not paying any attention to the line forming in front of her. She continues to take her time until she calls for another sandwich artist when she finishes with that one customer. Another older lady who worked just as slow as the other came to assist. Now it’s been about 35 mins and I’m barely getting my turn. I am patient and still had time. I finally ordered my sandwich a turkey and ham on soft bread. She says it’s $ 0.50 extra for the extra meat. Okay sounds good. I’d like it toasted and she then advises me to make it a panini like the sandwich before mine. I politely declined. She then proceeds to make my sandwich. Since it was my first time trying this place, I decided to let her do what she does best with the art of sandwich making.(I’m a former Subway Sandwich artist). She asked if I’d like all the veggies. I said yes please. She asked if I wanted to grab my drink, any size, inwhich I chose the biggest drink but there were no large lids. Asked for a refill on that. Went back to pay for my sandwich since she was done and then went back to get my drink. Still waiting for my large lid. I got out of there in 50 mins. I had 5 mins for lunch and opened the wrapper to find a horrible burnt and part soggy sandwich. Just lettuce, tomato and pepperchinis. I don’t know what happened to the bell peppers and onions maybe she forgot. I am very disappointed. My co-workers told me to go back and get a new one or refund. I didn’t have time after work so I just threw it away. Now I am writing the first Unilocal review. I am sorry Vons deli. I understand there will be a wait and I’m fine with that but what I don’t appreciate is the employee not caring to notice anyone. Especially when there is a line of 5 people waiting. My advice is to not come here if you are on a timed schedule. You’re probably better off grabbing a premade sandwich in the cold section near the deli. It won’t be burnt that’s for sure.
