This was the first and probably the last time to this restaurant. I was hopeful despite the bad reviews I heard, and well, those reviews are spot on. I ordered their lunch special enchalada and hard taco. The taco meat was very bland. I couldn’t taste any seasoning at all. Heck, my home made tacos are better. The rice was ok. The beans were bland. The enchalada was better than the rest, but still so so. I rate 2 stars because the staff was friendly and it’s really cheap for lunches, but besides that I would recommend a different Mexican restaurant.

I could sum up my experience in one word: bland. I had a chicken burrito that seemed like it was just boiled with no seasonings added and thrown into an uninspiring flour tortilla and covered in liquidy tomato paste. I’ve had better at Taco Time down the street. The only reason this isn’t a one star review is because the service is good. But other than that, the food left me unimpressed and bored. (This review is an opinion of my personal experience. It shall in no way reflect the overall opinion or experience held by others, this establishment, or any persons associated therein.)

We rarely have meals out, but if we do our favorite is Mexican Fare. I took my brother and husband here for Saturday night dinner and were very disappointed. I should have realized, with only two other parties in the whole place on a Saturday night, something was amiss. My brother who has a big appetite ordered a Chimichanga with rice and beans, which was nothing more than a small dry burrito. The burrito shell was chewy not crispy as expected and a very small helping of rice and beans. Big disappointment for $$. I ordered the Ixtapa special from the appetizer menu, Chicken Taquitos turned out to be a bad choice too. I offered to share them with my bro when I ordered, but when the order arrived I found only some of the Taquitos had chicken filling in them and the shells were tough and dry too, he said«Pass». We couldn’t help but notice the waiter seemed to be not just smiling, but chuckling, every time he came to our table. We all felt like we were the butt of some lame joke, not a good feeling. I would not recommend this place to anyone and I will not return.

The only reason this isn’t a one star review is because the staff was very friendly and attentive. The food however, was quite poor. I had chicken en mole with the only decreeable taste in the sauce being salt, and lots of it. The chicken in my dish and the beef in my son’s fajitas were the same type of pre-cooked strips of meat and were quite obviously not made in house. Unfortunately this was a disappointing experience for us.

I’m not happy doing this, but am hoping management/cook staff will see this and make some changes. Since we first tried this restaurant — and really liked it — we have been increasingly disappointed with our meals. The great flavors of Mexican food that attracted us are missing. — The enchilada sauce has lost its essential flavors… looks appetizing but is bland. What happened? The right sauce keeps me diving into the next bite of enchilada… this hasn’t happened in my last two visits. — I ordered bean dip, and it had no distinctive flavors at all… tasted like it came straight from a can of Rosarita refried beans. There is a Mexican place in Beaverton(La Hacienda Real) that mixes a small amount of marinated shredded cabbage into its bean dip and it’s fantastic! This is what I was hoping for… a little creativity would enhance such a simple dip.
— The shredded beef has lost it’s personality. The ground beef could be used in a spaghetti sauce since it lacked any spices or seasonings. The service is outstanding and we really would like to see this place succeed rather than getting the impression that it’s in survival mode. It’s in a great location and the facility is really nice, but it will continue to decline without a serious critique and overhaul of the food preparation. To the manager: Please please please visit some Mexican restaurants that are receiving 4 and 5 stars. — Taste their food, experience the flavors, and replicate them at Casa Ixtapa. — Ask patrons of those places what they like about the food, what makes the food better there than at another place. Get help with this if you need to. — Don’t be afraid to experiment and create a signature dish and flavor that people will drive a long way to enjoy because they can’t get it anywhere else. That’s all for now…

Had lunch here today. We have eaten here before with pretty good luck. The positives — the chips and salsa are good. Carnasada is pretty good. Service is fast and friendly. The negatives are the ground beef and chicken have no seasoning or spice. Its ok every now and again but it is not my go to mexican joint.

The only authentic thing about this restaurant are the servers. Casa Ixtapa serves unauthentic Mexican food. Buyer beware, you can have better tasting and quality food at a smaller, hole-in the-wall type of Mexican restaurant. The chips were terrible, as was the salsa. You’re going to regret wasting your time and money here.

My new favorite Mexican restaurant! Everything I’ve tried here was so delicious. Their Carne Asada is the best!

Don’t go here. They have one person waiting on all the tables and taking money. They mess up your order and expect u to eat it.

Worst Mexican food I have ever had! Food was bland and very unauthentic. Service was also terrible, we waited 15 minutes for someone to even take our drink order. Lots of other great Mexican restaurants around town we will not be going back.

We came in here tonight before going to the movies… We had chili verde, which was delicious, and the special which was tacos and enchiladas. The kiwi margaritas were damn good too! I was impressed… I would Come back… They do need music though, it’s quiet. You can hear everything around you.

My wife and I stopped in for lunch a while ago. I ordered a combo, tamale and enchilada. The chips were good while we waited. The salsa was so so. They bring us our food and my wife got what she ordered and the waitress sets a quesadilla in front of me. I politely say I got the wrong dish. After telling her what I ordered, she looks at the check and tells me the cook fixed the same ‘numbered’ item off the lunch menu, not the combination menu. She told me I must have not made it clear to our waiter which dish I wanted which I found interesting because I ordered it by name, not by number. So she is looking at me. I am looking at her. It is obvious what she is hoping for. Fortunately for them I like quesadilla’s just fine so I say no problem I’ll just eat that since it was there and ready. When I get the check I take a look and they had scratched out the price of my more expensive combo plate and wrote in the correct price for the quesadilla, as they should. But what that told me was she knew I had ordered the right dish to begin with, and it was their cook who screwed up. She was looking at this same check when she was telling me I was wrong and she could clearly see the price wasn’t for the quesadilla. Anyhow, not the end of the world and the food was okay. But I was not impressed with her disingenuous attempt to cover up their error by blaming me for it.

Didn’t we have enough Mexican joints in OC? Not even sure how they’re still open! Been a few times and had to wait for someone in the back to stop gosipping about what they saw on Instagram so we could be seated. If you want even a decent reputation as a Mexican restaurant, you had better have some good chips and salsa! Stale chips and salsa that tasted like Pace Picante. Bleh. I’ll stick to our old timer Mexican joints!

Love the Crarne Asada here. The onions are cooked just right! The service here is excellent, they are always makeing sure you have what you need. I think the prices are competitive to the area, they often put out $ 5 coupons to sweeten the deal. This place is never really that busy but my wife and I enjoy coming here. Word to the wise, sometimes their salsa can be very spicy.

WATCHOUT, DIRTYDINING!!! This place looks nice but was completely empty. The service was fast and friendly but those are the only positive comments I have about this place. The entire family got severe food poisoning!!! It only took 5 to 10 minutes to get our food? This food is obviously reheated in a microwave. Who knows when it was made. We were very very sick and will never go back. We are calling the news and will tell everyone we know. This place is a ghost town and my whole family knows why. GROSS!

Very clean establishment. Décor is what you would expect of a Mexican restaurant catering to a predominately white, suburban neighborhood. I don’t think the chips are house made, but they are warmed. I have reason to believe the salsa is made in house, as it is delicious and just a touch on the spicy side for my wife. One of the better salsas I have had table-side. I ordered the Carne Asada. I order it at every new Mexican place I try as a «control». Everything came out very quickly. I got a Jarritos and it came with a glass of ice and a straw. Nice touch. Typically you just get a bottle. Carne was cooked to perfection with sauteed onions on top. Rice and beans were bland, as expected. There isn’t a lot you can do with them. I didn’t like that there is a small side of chopped lettuce, diced tomatoes and bagged, shredded cheese in place of what would normally be pico de gallo or what I consider to be a Mexican coleslaw. My wife ordered a chimichanga with a salad. The salad was the generic bagged iceberg you can get in your local market with her choice of dressing. She said the chimi was pretty good, but the salad was very watery. They had recently washed it or something of the sort. I had to take a call while I was eating so I excused myself from the table which is when I discovered they do not have a bar, or Cantina if you will. I was not excited about that. They do Margaritas and an assortment of cervezes, but no bar. Which has to mean a blender in the kitchen. So sad. I think one of my favorite things in a Mexican restaurant is the bar set-up. TV’s with futbol, Tecate and Corona signs, bottles of Tequila. Bah! For a prompt meal with great service I would recommend this place. If you are looking for authentic/traditional in Oregon City, until I find something else to review it’s a coin toss between the other restaurants.
