I don’t even want to give them the one star !! I just got my meal and the smell alone put me off of the soup… then I thought well I’ll make the best of it with the tempura but that’s also a no go !! I ate here once years ago and was very dissatisfied I gave it a second chance and I will never give it another one !! They use old oil and I can smell it on the tempura then when I peel off the crust … It showed red pepper with part of it that was rotted !! Omg now I feel sick to my stomach !! Thanks a lot !!

We were there for a weeknight dinner and there was no one in the place. By the time we left there were 2 other tables of 2 that had come in. The service was just fine, prompt and friendly. We decided to get some egg rolls to start. This went really bad for me. When I first bit into it there was so much hot oil that it burnt my tongue and the grease actually spurted onto my hand(not a serious burn, but didn’t feel great) and then got on my shirt sleeve(oil stains are always fun to deal with). I figured it was a fluke, but still not a great way to start a meal. The sushi was okay. Nothing special, but not terrible either. Their signature Toki roll was just average. The prices for the most part were reasonable. Beverages are a big sticking point with me. I ordered a lemonade for $ 3. It was just the regular mix stuff and you can tell by the taste, which is fine. What isn’t fine is not giving free refills on anything but soda. Really?! No refills on cheap lemonade or iced tea? I worked in the beverage industry for several years and it’s no more expensive than soda. I go to places that even put some real fruit in their flavored lemonades and will refill for free. If you don’t offer refills on such mediocre items then your menu should say so! I would never pay $ 3 for a drink like that. It’s not a specialty drink or cocktail, so I expect to get it. Even retail cans you get 3 times as much as I got for only $ 1. That type of cheapness in a restaurant does not impress me. Plus it feels dishonest to me. If you’re not going to put it on the menu then tell me when I order because I would’ve just had water at that price. I’m just glad she told me when she asked if I wanted a refill. I told her no and that it’s ridiculous not to give it for free. I would say pass on this place unless average food is really your thing. Try someplace else, because there’s a reason this has so few customers and such a low rating.

This was our first time here and we came here because of a Groupon gift that a friend gave us and that it was going to expire soon. The place was pretty dead, and had only three other couples/families there. Service was okay but of course without many other diners it would have been a bigger disappointment if it hadn’t. Food was marginal, but the sushi, sashimi and nigiri were pretty bad. I am not a high-end sushi snob and I think it’s pretty hard to screw up sashimi but this place sure accomplished it! You could tell they just defrosted the fish as I was probably the only one who ordered sashimi that night. The biggest disappointment was that the server should have mentioned that the fish would have to be defrosted and gave me the option to order something else. Instead I was served defrosted and tasteless pale looking sashimi pieces which added injury to insult that they charged me $ 19.95 for that. The server also forgot to bring my order of spicy tuna roll but after being served the sashimi, I was glad it wasn’t brought out but we forgot to check the bill if they actually charged us for it. Overall the hot food is not that horrible, but definitely I’ve had better at other teriyaki bowl type restaurants for a better value. The sushi, however, was not good and I think you could get much better sushi at any conveyor belt place. I’m not sure when those posted sushi photos on Unilocal were taken but the stuff we were served certainly did not look at all like that. It also stung that our bill still came out to $ 65 even with the $ 25 Groupon discount. I was really hoping this place would have been great since it’s close to home but after this experience I do not plan to go back even if the Groupon discount was for $ 50.

Me and my bf came here. He had sushi and he said it was good. I had the chicken teriyaki. It was ok. It came on a steaming hot plate like fajitas would come on. It was so hot I could barely eat it. Wasn’t that impressed but I gave 3 stars because my bf said his sushi was great.

DONT eat here, unless you have a death wish. The sushi was served at room temperature, the bathroom floor you stuck too, just gross. Worst sushi we have ever had, far from fresh, track sushi blows this place out of the water, based on quality alone. The sushi is beyond gross. The only reason we even ended up here was groupon. We ordered 5 rolls, served 4, but paid for all five ordered. So over priced, Groupon should have paid us to eat here. If I could post without a one star rating I would.

I’m so bummed to see such bad reviews for one of my favorite little holes in the wall. I frequent Toki’s probably weekly. I mean, it’s never for the service, but the food is great. I don’t like sushi so I can’t give you anything relevant on that. I will say that all their teriyaki entrees are well worth the meager price. The portions are huge, even lunch sizes. I usually go for the teriyaki chicken combo which comes with white rice, miso soup and a side salad with their homemade dressing. The dressing is the best variation of a sweet asian vinaigrette I’ve ever tasted. Every couple weeks, I order one to go and use it at home on salads, wraps, it’s even great mixed with their chicken and rice. Now, if your expectations are high end asian cuisine, don’t waste your money. It is in the Albertsons parking lot in Oregon City next to a smoke shop, afterall. The drinks are self serve. If the server isn’t out to fill it, you can go fill it yourself. I grew up in OC and Toki’s is beloved to everyone I know who’s eaten here. It’s at least worth a chance!

I rather enjoyed it. I thought everything I tried was very good. The prices are a bit higher per plate than other places with a train table. However they have Happy Hour when all plates are the same price. The only cons so far are… too many seats crammed together, I was touching my neighbors on both sides. And they do not put covers on their hot dishes. If it’s on the train, please put a cover on it. Then I will try the hot dishes.

I could copy pretty much verbatim the review where another diner had a groupon… This is how we tried this the first and only time. The service was painfully slow and bordering incompetent. They had to ask us a second time for our order after writing it down! It took a crazy long time to get barely mediocre food. And the prices? Thank goodness we had that groupon, the bill was still way overpriced with it but it stung less with that discount. Its not horrible food or anything, but just not worth it. We’ve never been back.

When we first moved to OC, this was the only choice you had if you wanted sushi or tempura. We have kind of had a love/hate relationship with them from day one. Love: you are getting some Japanese food. Hate: Their tempura consistently is overcooked and occasionally the batter is weird. A heavier type of batter than tempura usually is. Also, every time I order the teriyaki salmon, it is overcooked. Call me a sadist because I keep ordering it, hoping that this next time it will be cooked right. Their teriyaki chicken is good, but that is hard to screw up. They look at you funny when you ask for ginger to go with your sushi and you will literally have to ask every single time. Then we get to the prices. They charge a really high price for the quality of what you get. We went there over a dozen times over a handful of years. Fortunately OC is getting many more restaurants so Toki will not be a place we will be going back to. It isn’t bad, it just isn’t that good.

I had a groupon for this place, $ 25 of food for $ 10. That was about what the food was worth. The service is PAINFULLY slow, we were there on Thursday night with only two other tables and it took an hour to get in and out. They brought out our food at different times so some people at the table were done eating before others had started. The quality of the food was a 5⁄10 but it was priced as if it were 8⁄10. I will not be going here again. Please understand, the place is very clean, the people are very nice, but it’s just not worth it with MANY more, better choices for Sushi and Teriyaki.

Salad dressing is so delicious. I like that they sell it also, but it does need a closing lid. We usually order the teriyaki beef box. the meat is pretty tender and has good flavor. Good portions. Sushi was not impressive built we only ordered a couple different kinds. Dinning area, service and wait time were pretty good.

Over priced and nothing ever tastes the way it should. Small portions for big prices, fish that is served at room temperature, and I’ve actually gotten sick from their sushi. Never again.

How does a place like this stay in business? Went with the wife cuz I wanted udon, what I got was a skimpy bowl of unflavored noodles that looked like it came from the supermarket. It also came with some very bad veggie tempura. The batter was horrible and over cooked to the point of burnt. I mean, I’ll eat almost anything deep fried but this, no! My wife ordered the yakisoba, that was one hell of a greasy slop on her plate. She took two bites and couldn’t finish it. all in all I wish we would’ve gone to McDonalds for some good crapy food.

I am being generous with the 3 stars. I am a huge fan of Japanese food that is not Sushi. I had a friend in town and he was wanting Hawaiian time. I am not a fan, but hey, whatever the out of towner wants. So in Oregon city, everything closes when you want it to be open. We went to HT, closed. I thought we might as well try the Teriyaki place down the road. I think it is Oh Teriyaki. I have been there a few times and it is good enough. But it was closed. 8:55pm? So we all found ourselves at Toki. The place had a few patrons left and were going to be open until around 10pm. I spotted Ramen on the menu, it is one of my favorite dishes when executed properly. My wife and our friend both ordered a teriyaki short rib dish. I got my Ramen first and it was very very basic. Broth flavor was tasty, but the ingredients were noodles, chicken and… that was basically it. No veges, no egg(although they have do an egg Ramen and I ordered Chicken). I think the Egg ramen is simply egg, noodle and broth. I snagged some extra veges from my wife’s plate and that improved it tremendously. Anyways, the wife and friends orders came out. The short ribs and veggies were on a skillet plate and it was sizzling. I have never witnessed this technique. They seemed to enjoy the food, I think the meat was not as good as they had hoped for, but it didn’t warrant sending it back. I am not sure if I will try it again. But I think that would only be fair. Not anytime soon though. Hey Owner, let me know when you add veges and an egg to your chicken Ramen. Thanks.

This is one of those kinda divy strip mall places that serves a little bit of everything. Teriyaki, sushi, curry, sandwiches, and combo meals that encompass it all. The sushi is ok. Not great, but not awful. The teriyaki is typical. The salad that is served on the side is just iceberg lettuce, but the dressing is yummy. They sell the dressing in a bottle. They now offer a choice of white or brown rice, and they will let you trade your rice for extra salad. Just be careful — my friend ordered the teriyaki tofu with no rice and extra salad. They put the tofu on a bed of iceberg lettuce and poured hot teriyaki juice from the tofu pan all over it. Totally gross. Warm, limp iceberg floating in tofu juice was not what she had in mind when she asked for extra side salad. All in all, I feel like this place is going downhill, but it’s still an ok lunch place if you are looking for a run of the mill teriyaki joint.
