I had a chorizo burrito! It was excellent. The service was also on point. However salsa was not the greatest. they were skimpy on it and the chips were not authentic.

Everything I ate was delicious. Even the ground beef tacos I got in my combo plate. The salsa is a little tomato saucy but still very good — had a little kick to it. They offer steak on some of their combo plates! Who does that?! And it was really good for the usual skirt steak. Rice was good and beans were good — those are dealbreakers for me in any Mexican restaurant. Chicken tortilla soup was excellent. Red cheese enchilada was perfect. I had absolutely no problems with my service on a relatively busy Saturday night. Definitely recommended.

I have been desperately searching for a great Mexican restaurant for the last two years since moving to the south suburbs. And I had actually given up at one point. But I am glad that I gave Mayan Palace a try because I finally found what I was looking for. Hailing from Southern California, Mexican food is serious business. And if it ain’t right, I won’t stand for it. But Mayan Palace gets it right. BOMB margaritas? CHECK. Warm chips and salsa(with jalapeño salsa on request)? CHECK. Actual authentic staff? CHECK. Layered flavors, giant burritos, and delectable shrimp tacos? TRIPLECHECK. And beyond all that, the restaurant is impeccably clean and the service staff is swift, polite, knowledgeable, and by all accounts amazing. I will be back. I will continue to sample their array of margarita flavors. And I will gorge myself on the food. Mayan Palace wins.

Been here 3 times. Staff is friendly, food is good. Margs are quite tasty. I would have rated them 4 – 5 stars. The problem we had is, they close at 10. We were gathering our things to leave at 9:45, and they started washing the floor. RIght near us. WIth some very VERY strong stuff. I could feel the start of an asthma attack, and since hubby was in bathroom, I could not leave my disabled mother. The second he returned, I bolted to get air. I was sick the rest of the night. So what started out as a very enjoyable evening, turned to crap. I get that you want to go home after a long day, but at least wait to wash the floor when patrons are still there, and CLEARLY leaving in like 2 minutes. It will be a while before I go back here — and NEVER after 8pm again. I even told the guy mopping that I was getting sick — I was already coughing — you think the manager or someone would have tried to come outside to see if I was OK. I mean I could not hide the fact that I was wheezing & coughing, and literally ran out. Not sure if calling them today would really do much. NOTPROFESSIONALATALL.

This was formerly«La Mex»(chain of Mexican restaurants in Illinois). They changed over to Mayan Palace about two or three years ago. The menu, staff, layout, etc. is essentially unchanged. The restaurant is very clean as are the bathrooms. The bar is on the left and dining is on the right. The place has several«nook» areas so privacy is available and you don’t feel like you are dining in barracks. Service is exceptional as is the food. The menu is somewhat typical of a Mexican place but you can always modify an item without the waiter giving you a hassle. Drinks are good although they charge premium prices for domestic bottles and ultra premium prices for imports. Sucks for me because I don’t do margaritas. Orland Park restaurants are lately getting run down but not this place. Crowd is full of people that want to have a meal and some drinks without acting like fools. Can’t ask for much more than that. You’re not going to see the police called because of out of pocket diners.

I eat Mexican at least once a week. Was very disappointed in the service, the server forgot my margarita, which was very small for 8 bucks. The chicken was cold in my enchilada, the Verde sauce looked like paste. I won’t even talk about how I went ill for the next two days because I couldn’t hold any food down. The only good part was that they sang happy birthday to my guest. It’s Pepes for me forever.

Now we know why they call it the Mayan palace… because Just like the Mayan civilization the flavor in the food here has all but disappeared and doesn’t exist. The service was good as we had a very nice Hispanic lady as our server, aside from that her service was the best thing about this place. I ordered the chicken fajitas, I expected them to have an ounce of flavor to them. I got nothing. It’s as if they ran out of spices and just decided to cook the meat as is. It was the worst fajita I have ever had. If you’re looking for Mexican food in the area I would suggest uncle julios their food has flavor.

This restaurant has consistently delivered excellent 5STAR Service. I have been here at least a ½ dozen times in the past year and never have an issue with the service. Their service is friendly and phenomenal. The food is traditional mexican and it is good quality and some of the food is just great! Their Shrimp Cocktail is amazing. The Carne Asada is delicious! Steak Taco’s and Burritos are pretty traditionally what you would expect. Fajitas are tasty and a little greasy but definitely yummy. The margaritas are perfect. If you are looking for Gourmet Quality 5 Star Food, this is not the place for you, but if you are just looking for consistently good quality traditional mexican food with great service, you will be happy with your experience here. Enjoy!

This place used to be called La Mex. We still call it that. That’s because it is still delicious ! The guacamole is some of the best my family has ever had, and we are guac experts. The chicken mole is superb as are the fajitas and burritos. Super fantastic mexican food ! Be sure to ask for the really hot salsa(they only bring it out if you ask… yes, its that hot), and be sure to ask for Jose as your waiter. He is absolutely the most awesome waiter ever!!! We will be loyal customers forever !!

Good food. Good service. Guacamole is fresh. Their chips and salsa are alright but I’ve had better. I get the chicken enchiladas and the chicken is great. Love the red sauce they put on them. Tuesday and Thursday the house margaritas are $ 4 which is nice. My other half drinks patron margaritas which are $ 12.50 each. They are filled with a ton of ice and in a small glass so it seems overpriced. We like the food here but there are a ton of Mexican restaurants in the area.

Let me preface my review my stating that I’m not a mean reviewer but an honest one. Also, Mexican food is my favorite! On to the review. I drive by this place often on my way to Orland Mall. I decided to stop in. In hindsight, I realize I should’ve kept driving. The service was okay. The food wasn’t great. The only thing saving this review from a 2⁄5 are the shrimp quesadillas which were awesome. Everything else, not so much. The rice tasted like it came out of the box. The beans were super bland. The guacamole also lacked flavor. Needless to say, I won’t be back. Drive an extra mile up the road to Uncle Julio’s Hacienda on 159th& Lagrange.

The owner is the best guy in the whole world. We came in ate and they were about to close. Many of the cooks had left. The owner took our orders and cooked it himself. He said, ‘this is what the food industry is all about. As long as you all are happy with the food, then i am happy too.” And the food was great!

Neat entry in the Mexican food category. This place has changed hands from when it was called La Mex. We went in the old days and it was just ok, and now we visited the Mayan Palace version and it was very good. Since it is not in the hot areas on LaGrange Road or around 159th& Harlem there was a lot of room in the Mayan. We went on July 4th since a bunch of places were closed… and the Mayan did not disappoint. As usual in a Mexican restaurant… we were greeted with the chips and salsa. The chips were excellent… they had a bit of substance to them and held the salsa nicely. The salsa was a thin tomato based salsa… a few bits of jalapeño in it to give it just a bit of bite; at first the salsa tasted just like the dipping sauce you get with cheese sticks… like an Italian sauce… but it grew on us with the bit of heat it had. Nice change of pace. One at our table had the La Costena #7 = ½ serving of skirt steak + one red cheese enchilada + one hard shell taco(this was an excellent combination and the enchilada in red sauce stood out); one of us had the Camarones Mojo = shrimp in garlic sauce(nice quantity of shrimp and done right… excellent garlic sauce too); and the last in our party had the Dinner Combo #1 = one taco, one tostada, and one red cheese enchilada(nice combo and a lot to eat). The house margaritas were very nice…$ 7.25…you can upgrade your tequila to the Gold but it gets pricey. In fact while the food was excellent, the overall food charge was a bit pricey. We had three people… a total of four margaritas… and our meals and the bill before tip was $ 76. So pricey it is, but the food was excellent. Service was very good and friendly. The restaurant is pleasant and roomy… we will be back.

Great food; great margaritas; great service. Just feel the margaritas were a tad over priced for the small pitcher. Will definitely return though.

I cant lie. I think I may have left here a bit tipsy from the killer margaritas. I do know that I was sober when I ate. I feel that’s fair. I remember almost everything that happened after I left. I have been hearing about this place. I ignored those people for the most part. Stupid of me. The service was excellent! I also enjoyed the chips and salsa. I wasn’t in the mood to eat a ton of food or be adventurous the day I went. I only ordered a taco dinner. The meat was really good though. They had some things on the menu that looked really interesting. The margaritas are really good! They may or may not have been half price one or two days a week. That’s where the memory thing comes into play. Well that and the fight I started when I left there. This is no longer a place I will overlook when I’m in the Orland area. I may even make a trip out there for margaritas again.

Came here with my in-laws, at my choice, for a belated birthday dinner. I quite enjoy Mexican food and they are not the most adventurous eaters around, but will eat enchiladas like any normal person. :) I came here once when this was still La Mex and the décor looks essentially the same. I think the food has improved, though. Chips and salsa were served immediately, and I quite liked the salsa, which had a little kick but was mostly just fresh tasting. Refills came fairly quickly too. I ordered chili verde, chunks of pork in a green sauce, served with rice, black beans and tortillas. The pork had a few fatty bits, but was overall flavorful and tender. I will say that the green isn’t quite what I expected, but the light is sort of weirdly yellowy and it was hard to see if the color was actually neon or it just looked that way. Refried black beans were a nice touch. The menu seems to have a few interesting options on it while still being what most people expect. The rest of the table seemed to enjoy their meals and I heard no complaints. Service was friendly if a little spacy. I will note that the bathroom smelled sort of funky, like it could use a deep cleaning. I’d rather smell Lysol than … bathroom funk. But it wasn’t disgusting or anything. All in all, since I love Mexican food(and also won’t be convincing the family to eat Indian or Thai anytime soon), I believe we will be back to Mayan Palace.
