I rented a car from Hertz because it has a counter conveniently located at the Cabana Beach Resort where we were staying. Admittedly, I mistakenly made the reservation at International Drive. However, since we were already there, I thought I’d be able to cancel that reservation and take a car from Cabana Beach. However, the Hertz person was not at the counter and when I asked about him, someone offered to call him on the phone. We talked and I am sure he was driving because of the background noise. He discouraged me from taking one of his cars saying he didn’t have an economy car available. He said I could wait for an hour and maybe someone would bring a car back that I could take. He could have just upgraded me to the next available car and comped it, as has been done for me at other locations when they don’t have the car I’m requesting. Of course, that would have required him coming back from wherever he was to help me. Basically, poor customer service from someone not doing his job. I took a cab to International Drive and the service was much better.
