There’s a couple decent Indian restaurants in the Waterford /UCF area. For a great dining experience with a little higher price tag I go for Tamarind. For great food at a great price I go for Kurry & Kabab Express. I swear, if this place had a drive through I’d eat there every day. The biryani is great, the curry is excellent, the chicken is succulent and falls apart in your mouth. It really is some of the better food on this side of town, at a price that won’t break the bank. It’s a shame they don’t sell beer, I could totally drop by just to have a couple king fishers and some papadum. The quaint little place brings back memories of sitting in a little bar near sakanaka junction in Mumbai. Very friendly staff too, a great local business I’ll never hesitate to patronize.

Great food at very reasonable prices. The place itself is small and I do not recommend for dining in as its more of a place where you get your take out.

There’s a new owner there now, so if you are expecting an afghan Kabab place, this is not it. I was very disappointed with my food, because it was more on the Indian food side and not what I had expected. The food was ok, I wouldn’t go there again.

They are under new ownership with a new name. The food, service and presentation are worlds better than before. We especially love the Afghani chicken kebab and Chicken korma.

A great place to get quick, fresh and delicious food for lunch when you’re in the mood for something out of the ordinary, which for me, is every other day.

I tried this place out for dinner yesterday… was on my way to the sub house and made the detour when I saw the restaurant sign. Guilty of not reading the Unilocal reviews first. It is a small place and not very fancy but seemingly clean. While I was there, I was the only customer(likely due to the time of day) so I received prompt and friendly customer service. I decided to try the samosas and lamb kabob, however, it was suggested that I try the chicken. After it was described to me, I decided to go with the chicken. I was expecting cut up chicken breast over rice with the sauce, onions, bell peppers, etc. Instead, it appeared to be cut up chicken sausage — it wasn’t bad, just different. I can’t tell if they were house made or not. The spicy sauce was given on the side and add just the right amount of «heat» for me. The samosas were pretty good. Overall, the portion sizes were comparable with the prices and the food was decent. I plan to go back to try some other things on the menu.

I ordered my dinner at 7:00 pm for a dinner party and I told the lady on phone that I will be picking it up at around 8:00 Pm. She said, I will have it ready in 20 minutes and you can pick it up whenever. I was like alright, cool. I went their at 8:20 pm and she wasn’t there but another guy was I there. I gave him my name for the order and he goes, I don’t have anything under that name. Then I explained him all the conversation with the lady on phone then his bell rang and goes oh ya she told me about it but I don’t have it ready for you it will be another half hour. I was like r u Fing kidding me! I was like alright but please be fast. He goes she didn’t enter anything in the system and I need to give him all of the order again. I was like forget it, I will order some pizza or something but never again this place.

Good place for take out. Food is made fresh. You can request extra spicy or «Indian spicy» as the individual taking your order may say. The prices are a little high, but to be honest, biryani is expensive no matter where you go. I wish they had masala tea! I enjoy this place as it is casual and everyone that works there is friendly. Don’t expect to be waited on, it’s an express place! Take it and go!

Came for lunch with coworkers. I remember when this spot used to be a California Chicken Grill. CHG used to be awesome back in Tallahassee back in my college days. I guess business sucked at this CHG on Colonial. they actually wanted to charge us for ice the first and only time I went… anyways that was a few years ago and besides the point. Lunch specials are decent. I chose the one meat curry + one veggie curry option for $ 8.99. Meat choices are limited for lunch specials. Would be nice if the lunch choices were written somewhere, instead of trying to remember everything the lady was telling us. I vouched for the Chicken curry and the Paneer Makhani, which is a red curry with house-made cheese curds. The curry was good but the chicken was a bit dry for my taste. Would have been nice if there were more chicken pieces as well. Paneer Makhani was interesting… the cheese curds had a consistency of firm tofu. They brought us a side of hot sauce, that was decently spicy. Not burn your bum spicy, but good enough. They brought out a basket of naan for everyone and it was quite delightful to dip in the curries. I would come back again to try some different curries.

I absolutely love this place. Since my first time going I have gone back every week. Their lunch is a good deal for fantastic food. Not too expensive for dinner either. This is the best Indian cuisine I have ever had. The butter chicken is amazing and the tikki masala as well. Hopefully it sticks around, their business isn’t doing so well so stop in and dine there soon! You won’t be disappointed.

Kurry & Kabab Express is a kind of hole-in-the-wall take-out, place with decent Indian food. That would be ok if the price was lower. The meat and vegi lunch combo is $ 9 without a drink. Other lunch meals are more and dinner is even more than that. The place has a rundown feeling with spartan tables and faded posters of Indian movies. You order at the counter and a server brings the food our in styrofoam containers and plastic utensils. The food was good(I had the curry goat and Saag spinach) but not the best Indian I’ve ever had. You do get a decent amount of food; however, I think the price could be lower given the feel of the place and the lack of full service. My advice is to either lower the price and go for strictly the take-out market, or fix the place up and add full service so that it doesn’t feel so much like a fast-food restaurant.

Pretty good but not great. On the plus side they make your order fresh and are very friendly. I ordered the curry chicken and goat lunch meal for $ 8.99. Another plus is that they give you lots of rice and Non bread. I usually have to pay more for extra Non but there was plenty here. Not exactly negatives but why they don’t get more stars is the price and the quality. It’s a little expensive at around $ 11 with a drink. The food tastes okay but I am comparing against the many authentic places I have eaten at in and around the Chicago area. I think this is the American version of curry and lacks in spice and flavor.

Ordered chicken tikka masala(medium heat) and the lamb rogan josh(also medium heat). The lamb rogan josh was so flavorful and delicious; very memorable. The chicken tikka masala was the least flavorful that I’ve had in my experiences dining at Indian restaurants, and the heat level was below what I would even consider mild. Their garlic naan is delicious! But I would definitely skip the samosas; they are quite bland. I suppose I should just be glad to have an Indian restaurant in East Orlando again, after Anmol’s demise…

Formerly the California Chicken Grill hole-in-the-wall off of Colonial Drive in East Orlando, Kurry & Kabab Express is the new hole-in-the-wall replacing the chicken grill joint. With the departure of Anmol Indian Cuisine due to the destruction of the UC-17 plaza by UCF, the Indian food scene in East Orlando had quite the huge void left, one that ultimately could not be filled by Mughal Indian on Semoran by University. Kurry & Kabab Express is a small outpost of Indian cuisine that will satisfy your cravings for curry without setting off for the International Drive and Orange Blossom Trail Indian-food meccas in Orlando. The location struck me as very hole in the wall-y with sparing décor of Bollywood film posters and a few, slightly stick tables and chairs and a buffet cart near the front. A large trash can is unappetizingly located right next to said cart — and I really wish they would move it further away from the food area. On a recent visit for lunch, I had their lunch special that comes with two items. I ordered the chicken tikka masala with dal lentils with basmati rice and naan bread. I found the pillowy white basmati rice, sometimes a bit too dry, sometimes fragrant and soft. The chicken tikka masala was good, but I wish there was more spice to it or something to make the flavors jump more and maybe make it a little creamier. The naan was very delicious and went well with everything as I tore and dipped into my curries. On another occasion, I had the lamb kofta special with was delightfully tasty, but I found it a tad too dry and ultimately a little too pricey for what came with the meal. I would probably return to try more and maybe ask for a spice rack on the side to adjust to my liking.

Checked this place out today for lunch and was surprised at how good it was. I ordered the lunch combo($ 8.99) which included the choice of one meat, one veggie, rice, and naan. I chose goat curry and channa masala for my meat and veggie and both were very good. The lady taking our order was nice and did help us decide what we wanted and provided us some details on what some of the items on the menu that we were unfamiliar with were. All in all, when I need to get my curry kick in I will be returning :)

This is a tough one, and certainly will result in an updated review somewhere down the road, after I’ve tried a few more things from the menu. It’s not a great looking place, in fact if you had gone to the California Grill that preceded it here, you would hardly notice a difference other than the menu. That doesn’t bother me. There seems to be a good selection of items on the menu, but since it was my first time there, I figured I’d get the Mixed Kabab Platter, which included three different kabab menu items: Chicken, Lamb, and Beef. It was served with onions and peppers, with a side of rice. I ordered two of these platters(one for my wife) and a side order of garlic naan. The food was very good all around. The rice was fragrant and tasty, all three types of meat had their own unique and delicious flavor(the chicken was a touch dry but not too bad), and the garlic naan — maybe not the best in town, but still very good and worth the price. Speaking of price though, here’s where we have a problem. The mixed platter was a good size, I wouldn’t have wanted more than that(see photo: ) because I wouldn’t have been able to eat it. But $ 17 each?! You can’t help but feel like you’ve been cheated when you’re walking out of a take-out restaurant with two styrofoam packages and a piece of naan for $ 40. Granted, there are cheaper things on the menu(thankfully). I’ll come back to try them, and hopefully be able to update my review with good news: that there’s food here that’s worth the money spent. The Mixed Kabab Platter, while very good, just isn’t worth $ 17.

The food was okay. Im not going to unfairly knock since Im not a true fan of Indian food, however I did enjoy the Butter chicken amd Naan. Its a great place if you love and adore Indian food. So yes go here if you are a fan of such.

I have to say the food is pretty solid here. My issue is the actual in restaurant dining. I understand that it is an «express» location, but It just feels like you are getting fast food, especially during lunch. They have a lunch special offering a few different choices from a pre-made buffet style setting. For $ 9.99 you get your choice of 2 meats, rice and Naan. I opted for the Curry and Butter chicken. The food is brought out in a styrofoam container, and if you do get two different meats, they seam to mix together. This is not really a great value as you can get an entire Indian buffet(essentially what the lunch special is) for the same price. Like I said the food is very good, but I think this is much better served as a takeout place. #Yelp100

Three days later and I’m still thinking about the meal I had here, and this is considering that on a whole; I’m not a huge fan of Indian food, but I’ve obviously not been eating at the right places. Everything was so flavorful and delicious, the tiki masala had just a hint of spiciness to it, and I’m so glad I got the chick peas too because together, they make for near perfection. The lady behind the counter was very nice and explained they can accomodate any level of heat you prefer. Then there was the naan bread… I’ve had naan bread at other restaurants and even the frozen kind you get at the Indian grocery store but this was just heavenly and again; packed with flavor. The place itself is not very big and is located where California Grill use to be just beside the bowling alley on Colonial, but don’t let that discourage you for you will get a delicious meal here.
