I only have one complaint, the service is too slow. Also, the person worker the counter seems like she is lost when questioned about food items. Foods ok at best.

I have been eating at this restaurant for 20 years at least. Get the fried livers and gizzards! By far the best things on the menu. Having said that, their fried chicken is my favorite around also. It is lightly battered and nice and crispy and delicious.

What happened to this place! My wife and I used to come here several years ago and it was pretty good. We hadn’t been back in a while, but we were driving by around lunch time one day and decided to stop in. The first thing I noticed was that the prices had gone up quite a bit. We each ordered a two piece meal and sit down at a table to wait. When our food arrived, we were shocked at how tiny the chicken pieces were, especially for the money. The sides we ordered were bland and the chicken was so small that I had to go order another piece because my wife was still hungry. Disappointed, we left and decided that we wouldn’t be back. That was about a year ago. Fast forward to this week. My wife wanted to pick up some food from Phở 88. I didn’t feel like Asian food so we got her take-out and left. I was a little hungry and saw Maryland Fried Chicken next door. I told my wife that I wanted to stop and get some wings to take home. We went in and ordered 10 wings to go. I was told that it would be about 10 minutes. We sat down to wait and noticed that they were steady, but not busy. I examined their wing pricing and saw that they charged $ 8.99 for ten wings(.89 cents a wing) and $ 14.99 for sixteen wings(.93 cents a wing). Since when is the per piece price more when you buy a larger quantity? After 20 minutes, I went to the counter and ask how long until my wings were ready. I was told that they would be up shortly while the girl behind the counter handed food to someone that had come in after us. After another 10 minutes, my wings were ready and they handed my order to me without any apologies. When we got home, I opened my container and saw ten tiny wings swimming in grease. I had to take each piece out and wrap it in a paper towel to dry it off. There was also a small container of bleu cheese dressing and three tiny sticks of celery. All I have to say is never again. I honestly don’t see how they can stay in business serving tiny chicken and bland sides at exorbitant prices.

Was in the mood for fried chicken. I haven’t here back yet but used to come where once a month. I got the small order of chicken littles which are basically tenders. The breading was good and the chicken was juicy. Also go the 3 piece meal, it come with a breast, thigh & a wing. Also you get a roll and two sides. I enjoyed the breading on the chicken. Both had great flavor. For my sides I got double mashed potato, they was ok. It needed some seasoning. Overall service was fine, décor was ok just an old diner. I normally get take out. The chicken has a wow factor and will be back for sure.

I think the fried chicken is really good. I cannot say the same for the sides. The ketchup that they have in the red squeeze bottle is so generic and cheap that it even ruins the fries! The fries would be fine otherwise. The place could definitely stand to have some money put into it. The day we were there, the air conditioner was broken and there was water all over the floor. The people that worked there were nice, especially the lady that owns it.

Maryland’s answer to KFC … tasty chicken … haven’t tried their buffalo wings yet but hope to before I leave. I used to eat at one when I was very young and I wasn’t disappointed. I do wish the sides came in slightly bigger portions but I can’t hold that against them.

I had been here once before a few years back and it did not leave a very memorable impression. The other day I was on Unilocal and saw them in the list. I took a few minutes and read the reviews. There were some really good and really horrifying reviews but since one of the reviews was from an elite Unilocaler I follow, I figured I would give them the benefit of the doubt and try them a second time. I decided on the 2 piece dinner with all breast meat and some iced tea. Of the sides offered I chose the turnip greens after confirming they were savory and not sweet. I also chose the coleslaw even though I am not a big fan of it but recently I have been to a few places that have changed my attitude. $ 9.25 did seem a bit much for a 2 piece meal so I was expecting a pretty good plate of food. After looking around it was apparent that the place could use a fresh coat of paint and some new ceiling tiles but the rust around the AC vent pretty much says appearance is not high on the owner’s priority list. Their dining area is very small and the table I sat at could have been cleaned a little better from the last guest. The girl that waited on me came to clean the table to my right so I moved my stuff hoping she would notice the condition of my table, but she didn’t. If I had been eating when she sprayed the table with it, I would have been very upset because it was not a pleasant smell at all. One other thing is that the bathrooms are not inside so if you need to use them, you better hope it is not raining. After 10 minutes my food arrived and I was NOT pleased by the portions at all. The coleslaw was in a container about the size of a to-go container for condiments and the container of greens was not much bigger. There was a small roll that was obviously not fresh made and the 2 breasts were basically the equivalent of 1 breast cut into 2 pieces. As you can imagine I was just hoping the flavor was going to make up for the small serving. I will start with the iced tea. It was watered down and basically flavorless. I prefer unsweet tea because I like the flavor of the tea but this tea had little to no flavor. The roll tasted like a generic store bought roll that was a bit sweet and was not even warm. The greens were over cooked and mushy, too much salt and had a slightly bitter flavor. I added a little of the hot sauce they had in the condiment area and it did not help those greens a bit. The coleslaw had a great texture but it was made using a pre-made slaw dressing that was way too sweet. I have to say the chicken was cooked perfectly and that is the best thing I can say. The crust was way too salty and the meat itself was juicy but bland. I had to add some of the hot sauce to the chicken meat to give it any kind of flavor but to be blunt, I felt like I just wasted money on this meal. My first trip here about 3 years ago was actually worse so had I not read the Unilocal review indicating how good the food was, I doubt I would have come back. After coming back, I will be candid; I will never be back again. I am not a fan of fast food at all BUT… Popeyes, KFC, Churches and Bojangles would rate MUCH higher to be honest but I prefer eating at mom n pop places. Based on the other reviews I saw the man that people described as the owner sitting in the dining area. He seemed to be more concerned about college sports than the condition of his restaurant. The bright spot in my visit was the young lady that waited on me. She had a very pleasant personality and a genuine concern for her customers. It was also pretty apparent someone belted her across the side of the face, in spite of the makeup she tried to cover it with. She did not let her personal issues interfere with her professionalism and if I had a job for her, I would have hired her on the spot. She said she would be looking for my review so if you need help with your situation, reach out to me on FB or Unilocal and I will put you in touch with someone that can help you with your personal situation. Whoever did that to you should be glad I am not your father and I will leave it at that…

Before today it had been a looooooong time since I dined at Maryland chicken, but I was craving fried chicken and mashed potatoes, and didn’t want to make a mess at home and so here I am ordering a two piece meal. Service was great, and the chicken was as delicious as I remember it, so much that I almost ate the bones and every thing LOL! I read some of the other reviews and I have to say that my experience was quite different. I think they make probably some of the best fried chicken in town, and well priced. Their mashed potatoes were great and while I’m not fond of the fact that they mix the gravy in already, all I did was scoop some of it off the top and done deal. If ever I’m in the mood for fried chicken; this is where I’ll go.

Great wings. I am a bit of a wing aficionado, and I have to say that these are some of the best in the city. Previously, I was a fan of Flyer’s and their wings, but these top them. They are really well sauced and«hot» is actually hot. The sauce is thick and actually clings to the wings too. The sides are average and so is their regular chicken. If you go, order the wings. You will not be disappointed.

Very bad quality of food. If you can imagine a ghetto Walmart and their last piece of chicken. This place has them beat on the worst fried chicken. Bad atmosphere, outdated sign and horrible food. Save your health and go somewhere else.

My fiancé and I have only had the wings but they are great! We love them! I’m always telling my fiancé when he asks me what I want for dinner I say Maryland Wings! If I could I would eat their wings everyday! I get 5 medium and he gets 5 hot wings. We also get two sides of hush puppies and sweet tea for the drink. We go there so often they even know us by name. I think the staff is friendly and they always get our order right. The one and only time they didn’t, they fixed it right away and was so apologetic. The place may not look the best but the wings are to die for! The best I ever had!

I have been a customer of Maryland fried chicken since 1997. I have fond memories of this place and the delicious of antics fried chicken I’ve enjoyed since then. the owner and his wife are super friendly and always make sure that the food is fresh and made to order. At times I have waited in the drive thru line for a few minutes but it was well worth the while as the food was hot and fresh. I noticed some other postreviews that referred to the owner as a privileged bigot. This is completely untrue as he is married to a dark skinned wonderful woman from Trinidad. I am also of Hispanic descent and have never been treated unfairly, rather I am always welcome and they asked how my dog is doing can’t he frequents Maryland with me. Give them a chance you won’t regret it, I never do.

I’ve lived in East Orange County and have driven by here since 1978. First time I stopped here for no apparent reason. Probably my last time. Sides, green beans and greens, we’re okay but the portion is very very small. Probably less than a ¼ cup. Chicken pieces were to small too and over fried. Constant traffic in for lunch so someone must like this place. At least I can say I ate here once. A memory that will probably be quickly lost.

If you don’t mind waiting in line for almost 10 minutes and then getting to the window and them telling you another eight minutes for chicken to cook this is not a one time experience this has happened over and over and over I’m done with Maryland Fried chicken This fast food drive-through should have chicken ready when you get there. If you like waiting and small overpriced side items then you’ll enjoy Maryland fried chicken waiting for your chicken every time you go. A mediocre place at best Unless you’re retired and have nothing else to do.

PLEASEDONOTGOHERE. WEWILLNEVERGIVETHISBUSINESSOURMONEY. My fiancé and I came here on a whim for some food, as soon as we walked in we made a small $ 6 order, the young staff weren’t offensive and as we went to sit down the bald Caucasian man(who is the owner), was sitting watching fox news. We asked if he wouldn’t mind changing the channel, and he said no as long as it was the news and switched it to the local news. We sat down to wait for our food, and he turns around and says we must have a problem with fox news, and my fiancé explained to him that as a Latina woman of color she was bothered by how fox discriminats against people of color. Again we were waiting for our food hoping that would be the end of it, but the owner continued, saying that he didn’t see that, and his wife who is dark skinned got him watching it and she watches it all the time. At this point the man was being more antagonistic then he was originally, and my fiancé explained that people of color can internalize racism, he said yeah whatever, I don’t see that. My fiancé mentioned that he wouldn’t want to watch something that was consistently violent towards a group of people he identified as a part of either, which he also disregarded. After asking if he owned the place we politely(but sternly) asked to have our order refunded. He did this, and as we were –leaving– he decides to antagonize us further and ask if he did«something wrong,» which was provoking an argument when we just wanted to leave. My fiancé told him that she was bothered when people who were not of color felt a need to disregard and defend themselves when presented with issues of racism in their lives, rather than acknowledging them at the very least, he said«i changed the channel!» We said that he still felt the need to get aggressivly defensive towards people who were at the time his customers, he repeated(shouting) that he «changed the fucking channel» and that his wife was black, we told him that didn’t negate any racial issues in the situation, and that it was easy for him to ignore discrimination when power structures in america work for him more than people of color like my fiancé. He said«what power structures?! We know whose closed minded here(yes, we do), I don’t need your money!» Which was fine, and we were –walking out– when he said something else along the lines that his wife was black and he was COMPLETELY accommodating, when my fiancé went to explain again that he did not need to come back to us about –any– of it and that we knew who was closed minded and that marrying a person of color did not excuse any claims of racism when the man –screamed–«GETTHEFUCKOUTOFMYSTORELADY!» We laughed and said we –really– knew who was closed minded,(he’s still yelling) and that we would leave(as we had been all along) because we wanted to, saying he should go read a book when he continued, «what the fuck are you talking about?!» He yelled«go buy a new fucking car!»(talking about our 04′ cavalier, which runs great and is awesome on gas) and was still yelling at us through the glass as we were leaving. My fiancé is Latina and Caucasian, I’m Italian American, and we both have families largely comprised of people of color(Caribbean American, African American, and latino), so neither of us respond well to this kind of shit. I can’t tell you about the food but the man running this place clearly doesnt give a shit about the suffering of others and social issues within our society, and would probably pay his employees(largely minority) next to nothing if he could. Maybe the reason the other workers aren’t so chipper is because their boss is a violent, aggressive biggot. Also he doesn’t think much of his establishment as he yelled«there’s a kfc down the street,» firstly insinuating that we were hungering for some nasty greasy food, which was lowly(the way he said it), while(funny enough) comparing his establishment to a place were lowly people got greasy nasty food, which we thought was kind of funny. Anyway, I know I haven’t written reviews, but I’ve been on Unilocal for a while, and this is what it took to get me commenting. Please just avoid this place and let them go out of business. ~Luca

The owner is that OBNOXIOUS, white, bald guy. Thoughtless, culturally insensitive, defensively racist, and privileged. He antagonizes people around himself because he thinks he should be able to get away with it. If he treated a customer like me the way he did, I can’t imagine what it’s like to be his employee or his partner. Support other businesses – there are better ones out there, by far.

Great chicken and, well that’s about it. Rolls are store bought and most of the sides are pretty mushy. If you get chicken, get it to go. The inside is clean but dated and kind of run down. Not a very comfortable atmosphere. The tv volume was blasting a news channel and the manager and his wife or girlfriend were just ranting politics. Not the ideal relaxing dining ambience. If I happen to be in the area and want chicken, I may stop by just for the chicken. Otherwise, not a place I would go out of the way for.

It was 8:30PM and we were starving! I thought why don’t we go ahead and try Maryland Fried chicken even though it was completely out of our way!!! Well my mistake. Aaaand here comes one of those scenes where two unsuspecting customers walks into a normal fried chicken place, they order and suddenly something reaaal bad happens. Well nothing really bad happen but that gives you what kind of atmosphere the place is like, esp at 8:30 at night with the place being empty with abrasive fluorescent lighting. The order: 16 piece buffalo wings and a 2 piece dinner with 2 sides(mash+gravy, potato salad) = 18 bucks and change… Was it worth it? ehh. I mean its okay. But considering this place been here forever and another store in edgewater, i was really expecting explosions of flavors in your mouth. Ya know what i mean? The verdict: chicken tasted like it was frozen a little too long and the meat has started to get that frozen taste. The sauce was your typical buffalo sauce. The 2 piece dinner was too sketchy, so i passed. The mash potato tasted like it was out of a box with yellow gravy. The potato salad lacked freshness and that it has been sitting there way too long. I was kind of sad. I really wanted to like it.
