Miami Subs in Orlando’s Airport, which wants to be called OIA for Orlando International Airport but is still coded with the old MCO, after an army officer. I wonder if the Orlando Magic take offense to Miami Heat’s Miami Subs being in their own airport? Oh, that;s right, professional NBA teams take charters anyway. This eat and fly joint is located out by the United gates. It is crowded and usually packed. The selection of sandwiches are basically what you expect from a place like this… it is what it is… A turkey on wheat goes for $ 6.38, not too much of a premium over non-airport sandwiches. Grab a bite while you wait for your plane. It is out near the gates, so it should be ok without missing you flight.

I really wasn’t expecting to be at the gate two hours before my flight home. It’s 6AM(that’s 3AM my time!) and it seems all the restaurants and shops at Orlando International Airport are still closed. You don’t know how happy I was to see the long line snaking around Miami Subs as I made my way to my departure gate. It meant there was a place open where I could grab a quick bite of breakfast before hopping onto my plane. For such a small space they have a good selection of breakfast items — sandwiches, hash browns, pastries, cereal bowls, fresh fruits and more. The prices are quite decent too: 1 Egg & Cheese sandwich with Ham = $ 2.49 1 Potato Sticks(hash browns) = 0.89 Sales tax is only 6.5%!!! I can totally dig the sales tax in Orlando! The sandwich on a standard toasted burger bun has some warm, gooey processed white cheese, one fried egg cooked in a circular mold Mickey D-style and a couple of super thin slices of ham. The potato sticks, little deep fried thumb-sized hash brown sticks, come to about eight pieces in a fries box. I can’t remember if I just ate one! Maybe it was nine pieces in the box. Sorry, it’s early, and I’m sleep deprived!!! Anyway, I’m giving this place three stars because it’s 6AM and they are one of the few places open at the airport. Yes, the breakfast is fast food, but it’s filling and it’s super affordable plus the two ladies working the counter were super nice people.
