2.5 stars for Roddy’s Deli. This place is a really mixed bag — and it’s absolutely misnamed. If I hear the word«deli», I’m expecting to be able to come in, buy some meats, some sides like cole slaw, potato salad, grab a bag of chips and maybe a bagel or egg sandwich or a nice sub or reuben to go. Of all of that, you can get an egg sandwich to go. You can get other stuff too — you can make copies here, you can get an omelet or french toast here — even empanadas. But the bottom line is: don’t come here expecting a traditional deli. What they really seem to be going for is a neighborhood breakfast spot. I’m absolutely fine with that. They’ve got a breakfast and lunch/entrée menu. They serve breakfast at all times though. We were here to get some quick eggs since we were about to get on the road. After going over the menu, I decided on three eggs over easy, with sausage and white toast. My wife went with an omelet with veggies and wheat toast. And so we sat and waited. And waited. And waited. And waited some more. Finally after almost 25 minutes, my eggs over easy finally came out. The cook/server/cashier/all-in-one explained that they had overcooked my wife’s first omelet and it had to be redone. While she waited, I inhaled my food. Yeah, not super polite, but I expected her to just get hers to go. She ended up deciding not to. Oh well. My eggs were properly cooked. The toast slices were huge. The sausage links were tasty. Eventually, the omelet came out. My wife said the eggs were ok, but the wheat toast was burnt and nasty. She didn’t bother to finish eating it. So, after all that, we waited about 30 minutes for two plates of acceptable eggs. Look, even if you have to re-cook an omelet, 30 minutes for an unbusy kitchen to put out two plates of eggs is unacceptable. At this point, I was ready to give them two stars, but the employees knew that they were to blame for an extremely long wait and instead of charging us full price(which really wasn’t much to begin with — maybe about $ 11), they just charged us a flat $ 5. While I cashed out, I saw what they were cooking on — a small portable burner — I only saw one burner, but there may have been two — and a portable griddle like you can get at Bed Bath & Beyond. In fact, I’m pretty sure we gifted a friend with the same one a few years ago. If Roddy’s «Deli» can figure out how to put food out in a more timely manner, they may be able to struggle to survive — but as of now, I’ll be surprised if they’re open for much longer.

I have to say it was the week of discovering new restaurants. Roddy’s is located on Colonial Drive, but has no sign displayed, so it would be nearly impossible to find them unless someone took you there. Even then, when you walk in, it looks like a business office(since the also do Notary stuff) and a counter without a menu. The only reason we came here was because they were recommend by a co-worker. This is family owned, and the staff/owners are extremely friendly and helpful. I tried the Tripletta Pork sandwich. It was actually really good. It is 3 different types of pork on a hoagie, and then pressed. The meal also comes with a drink, and potato salad, which I heard was good, but they were sold out. I really hope they make it, but they need to add signs! Inside and out.
