Save A Lot is great store if you aren’t particular about brands. Every once in awhile you can find some well known products. It’s random. There’s items that you can always find, and products that are hit or miss. We like to get Tombstone brick oven pizzas here. No one else seems to carry them. The produce section is always great. Bring your own bags if you don’t want to pay for theirs.

Years ago, this was a Food Lion supermarket. Now it’s been cleaned from top to bottom and stocked with bargain priced groceries. Sure, there’s no deli or bakery, but for staples like hamburger, chicken, canned goods or dairy, the prices can’t be beat. The aisles are wide and the store is clean and well lit. You may not find all the national brands, such as Kraft, but there are some. Store brands rule here. On my recent quick visit, I bought one each Hass and Florida avocadoes for .99 each. Dole salad in a bag for $ 1.00. Three boneless skinless chicken breasts for $ 1.79/ pound. Light tuna, .63/can, and a bag of frozen speckled butter beans, a southern staple, for $ 1.49. The store(s) are very similar to Aldi, with three important differences: The prices are just a tad lower. You don’t have to rent a shopping cart. It is owned by Americans, not Germans. Does that qualify as «shopping local?» Next time you see one, stop in and pick up a few items and save some money. Oh, be sure to bring your own shopping bag, or you’ll have to pay for new ones.
