Sunday March 31st5PM Crusty, dirty bar, dirty feel, surly bartender, male. His approach line, in an annoyed manner, «What do you want. «NOLIE! I asked for a beer list and he drolly ran off the beers. I asked for a list again and he left. So did I. Ollie’s(old Jax) was no better. I ended up at Wldsides and got lovely service from Jessica and James. Still and always a dump.

Awkward service and salty food will keep me from coming back here. Too bad.

Stopped by for drinks after class with some friends. We arrived during happy hour when the drink specials happening. $ 3.50 import drafts. There were two big flat screens behind the bar showing the a few games. This place is pretty large and had an indoor and outdoor seatings. I ordered mozzarella sticks. They were about $ 7 and tasted pretty good. My friend ordered the Buffalo Chicken? flatbread pizza. It looked pretty good and he enjoyed it. If you’re looking for a different place that’s pretty decent in this area, I’d say check it out.

In Brief: Pros-Great lunch specials. Amazing fish and chips. Marsupial waitress(Read below) Cons-Service, the smell of the place, parking(half of the back parking lot is for the doctor housed close by), Not so Brief: Daily lunch specials are the reason you should put this place on your week day lunch rotation. $ 6.50 for fish and chips! Perfect fish and chips that is. Fish was moist with a light, crunchy batter. Jesus-like miracles occur when the cider vinegar hits the fryer-hot coating. A university should write a grant to find out EXACTLY what the chemical reaction is that takes place. Enough about the fish though. Let’s talk service. This was my second time with… well, we’ll call her Semi-Surly Sally. Pretty sure she cupped my water in her arm pit. It’s that or she has some secret pouch for toting glasses. My friend laughed at the look at my face. The first time S.S. Sally and I tangled over buffalo chicken sandwich. This time, she didn’t want to honor the lunch special, but when I reminded her it lasted until 4:30, she realized her watch was fast. She considerately brought out two appetizer plates so we could split the fish. When she realized the second plate was dripping from the dishwasher, she inconsiderately wiped it off and LEFT the semi-wet napkin for us. Yes, you read that correctly. She left a used, wet napkin. Don’t me wrong-she’s not out-right rude. Just gives off an un-friendliness. Hence the Semi-Surly title. Service wasn’t bad; just awkward.

The food is good, the service is horrible, and the location is nice. We spent 2 hours at this restaurant when we normally spend an hour at a restaurant. We had to ask for beers 4 times before we actually got them(our waitress repeatedly«forgot» and wouldn’t come back for 20 minutes). We asked 3 different people for the beers and finally the last girl(bartender) brought them to us. We asked for 2 containers to take home our left overs 3 times. Our waitress«forgot» again and brought us 1 container the next time she came back and then it took about 10 minutes for her to bring us our second container. Probably the worst service I’ve received in a long time. Other than that, the food was good, nothing special or over the top but the prices for the food are cheap so it’s worth it!

Stopped by for drinks after class with classmates. Located in College Park a few blocks between Princeton Ave and Par St. on Edgewater Drive. We arrived during happy hour(3−7pm) when the drink specials were in full effect and their beer selection had me more than happy our classmate chose this place. $ 3.50 import draughts were all I needed to hear. Newcastle, Harp, Sam Adams Season Ale, Stella Artois and Magner’s Cider were on tap(to name a few). There were two big flat screens behind the bar showing the UEFA Euro soccer match between Portugal and the Czech Republic. Bartender was a young Irishman who was helpful and friendly. Place was rather large and had both an indoor and outdoor patio area. Didn’t order any food but they had all kinds of pub fare that seemed to range from $ 7-$ 12.We had a great afternoon!

Don’t you love this area? I do. It’s fun to walk around here. We had a few drinks here with friends(well, I had a lemonade because I’m pregnant. and it was just as fun). Sitting outside was relaxing and service was fast and friendly. I can’t comment on the food or what it’s like to sit inside. But I definitely will go back to find out. :) P. S. The name Scruffy Murphy just rocks. SCRUFFFAY!

The only problems I have with the place is the lack of authentic Irish music, instead you have to listen to top 40 crap. Other than that the servers are nice, the food comes fairly quickly, and tastes good. Fish and chips are the best, and watch out late night is only pub food nothing irish.

Fairly standard Irish bar. Which means it’s a good place to get your drink on! I weant for Saturday happy hour, and they had $ 3 smithwick’s, which, if i’m not drinking New Castle, its the next best thing. The atmosphere is great, had good large group that was taken care of by our server perfectly. Nothing took too long to get. The FOOD really surprised me. in a GREAT way! Everything i tried from other people was awesome, EXCEPT the whisky bbq sauced wings. The wings and sauce would be good, but they soak the wings till soggy in the bbq sauce. It turned the outside of the breaded wing into chinese take out texture. Ok, enough about bad… The Shepards pie was outstanding. I think its hard to screw a shepards pie up, but to execute perfect is also not that easy. It had a great cheese crust on top, no corn(which was nice change), and bits of pepper instead of the corn. Also, the Chicken boxty was really good. Great flavoring in the creamy sauce they put over it. Kinda a small portion, i think i could eat 1.5 of those meals. The champion of the meal wars was the fish n’ chips. The fish was a HUGE piece of Cod. The breading was perfect, the fish fresh and flaky, the tartar on point. The Chips from here are great too. Thick cut with a nice seasoning, and perfect to drizzle crazy with malt vinegar. I’ve come here for the fun and drinks a ton of times, now i can actually consider it a nice Irish Fare foodstop! Slainte.

I went to Scruffy Murphy’s for Karaōke Night and to celebrate my sister’s birthday. There was a decent sized crowd and I thoroughly enjoyed the old timers singing the classics. I joined my group who already had drinks and asked if they had a server. They said yes so I didn’t go to the bar. I waited and waited and the server never came. I would understand not seeing me join the group, but why wasn’t she checking on the people already there? I finally go to the bar, no liquor specials, only beer. I ended up getting a double vodka and cran to avoid another trip up there, but it was really weak. For the rest of the night, I never saw the server come over and my friends got the rest of their drinks from the bar. As for the karaōke, the host wasn’t bad although the song selection was not good. And what’s the point of karaōke if you don’t have a decent song selection?

I’d say this was a tucked away gem in the heart of College Park but the forest green exterior kinda makes it stick out like a sore thumb. While the outside may not be the description of divine, the interior is absolutely stunning. Lots of wood and a very pub-like feel. And far roomier than the exterior suggests. Loved my Irish bartender who had a very sexy accent and was quick with the service, especially considering that we had a fairly large group. Not a huge selection of beers on tap but they had Shocktop so I was content. Enjoyed nibbling on a few of the appetizers including the spinach and artichoke dip, mozzarella sticks and boneless chicken wings. Quite delicious! I will definitely be heading back sometime soon. Great atmosphere. Good service. Delicious drinks. Only downfall was how loud the band was when they came on. Enjoyed it better when I didn’t have to shout at my friends.

I’m surprised that we never went to this bar before last night, because it was a nice surprise for us. It wasn’t that busy(prob due to holiday weekend) so the bartender was very attentive, but not overly pushy. The beers were good. I was shocked to see that my boyfriends yuengling was 2.75 or something, but my harp was 4.75. I know its an import, but I thought that was a little much for an Irish place. But it was delicious so I would order it again, it just came as a shock. We ordered onion rings and scotch egg. Both was awesome. Im a vegetarian, so my boyfriend ate the scotch egg and he loved it. The menu was impressive too.

I’ve been to Scruffy Murphy’s for trivia night and that was a hoot! The other night though I decided to use a wonderful coupon here and try their food. The menu is rich with Irish dishes including bangers and mash and boxty’s. I had the steak boxty with the sun dried tomatoes and there was no lookin’ back! The meal was served steaming hot and, although it didn’t look the way I had imagined, it tasted oh so good! Other things ordered at the table included fish ‘n chips(wow, wow, wow!) and grilled chicken sandwich(BORING, but healthy!). We also sipped on some righteous tap beers and participated in the Kentucky Derby raffle. Our horse came in second… damn that Animal Kingdom!

Love this place! Authentic Irish bar, great selection of beer on tap, great environment, great neighborhood, and much better than the usual bar food. The staff is quirky and friendly, and several of them have heavy Irish accents. Lots of dark wood and a unique granite front bar give the place a cozy feel. 5 Separate seating areas make it easy to choose your atmosphere: Front bar, front porch, side booths, rear bar or rear dining area near the stage, yet it’s still easy to mingle with a large group: Must try: Fish & chips(real cod) and shepherds pie. Guinness taps are CLEAN!

Scruffy’s in College Park is a good-looking Irish pub with the usual Irish pub amenities: dark wood, old photos on the walls, Olde Sod folk music playing. I like their ample windowed doors looking out onto the patio and Edgewater Drive. You can order the typical items like Shepherd’s Pie, Bangers and Mash, Fish and Chips. I had the fish and chips on my most recent visit. The fish was over-fried but tasty. The chips, well they were chips. There’s no aspiration to greatness at this place, but it’s kind of fun to drop in there from time to time.

I am a huge fan of Irish pubs and this definitely has the feeling of your typical pub — including a bartender with an Irish accent. I have never been seated more than a few feet away from the bar so my service has been decent even when they are busy. Decent selection of beers. Friendly laid back environment. Witty servers. I will go back again!

As often as I drive by this place, I thought I would finally take the plunge and check it out. My friend and I went on a weeknight and the place had some bodies in it. The place was bigger than I thought it was going to be. The service was good. We had a bartender that had the whole Irish brogue thing going. Which was pretty friggin cool. Since we were only doing the liquid meal, I never did get a chance to try the local fare. But would be willing to try next time. They have daily drink specials. We took advantage of the 2 for 1 Stoli on Thursdays! The atmosphere when I went was just very chill. But I’d imagine on certain nights that this place can get a lil rowdy! WeatherMan Predicts: 80% chance of you getting turned on by the Irish accent or have the desire to do a jig in the restaurant! I know I did!

I have been only 2wice and most recently was my visit to watch the Magic take on the Lakers. I always try to find a place that shows the game, has sound and if lucky… Cider! Remembering during the playoffs last year, Scruffy’s was a hoppin’ place to catch the game. Apparently, during regular season not so much. There was 2 of us heading in and we were the only 2 sitting at a table. There were about 8 people sitting at the bar in the back. The game was on a huge screen in the middle of the place which was awesome. However, no sound =(Not sure why when NOONE was listening to the overhead music. #Fail. Towards the end, when it was only us 2 left in the bar the bartender turned the game sound up but did not turn off the music… eh somewhat better. Ok the service, started off ok, really friendly and funny… slowly went to crappy when he initially told me he would grab me a Magners, came back and said they had to check if they had a keg in the back, then he confirmed, no go =(Broke my cider-loving heart. We came here for #1 — Magic Game(score) #2 — Sound of the game(15% score) #3 — Cider(5% score) Out of 300% they get 120% — however, since i have had a great experience here before, they receive 3 stars. Ok, onto 2 more failures for this visit. NOTE: Kitchen closes @ 10pm — REALLY? Cause the«chef» came out and sat at the bar for an hour after the kitchen closed… why does that annoy me? Convo: 9:55 Me: Hey, can we have menus Server/Bartender: Sure but the kitchen closes at 10 …menus delivered… Server: I would make it quick cause the cook is already in a bad mood (WHY would you tell us that?) Me: Great, is he going to spit in our food Server: Chuckles… no. Just weird. Fastforward, Jessica: Hey, can we have our check? Server:(From across the room still behind the bar, keep in mind, we are the only ones left) Hey… it’s gonna be $ 49 and holds the receipt up for us to come get it. Me: AREYOUKIDDINGME??? Jessica:(stands up to walk over) Me:(Mommy seatbelt move to sit her back down) Ummm, ok we can do this…:chuck over my debit card to him: Jessica: :chucks over debit card: Server: :walks over to give us our bills to sign: I was in SHOCK he expected us to come get our checks. Not to mention, when our drinks were empty, he did not come to refill, we had to walk up to the bar to ask. With us being the only people in the place I guess he felt we should do the work? ummm, NO, doesn’t work that way, it’s your JOB! I don’t believe in not leaving a tip so I left him 15% — I was too tired to really care at the time so I didn’t say much but I DID leave a «You’ve Been Unilocaled» card so hopefully he is reading this because looking back, I’m annoyed at the entire experience. SO, all in all… enter at own risk =)
