The Bar Method

The Bar Method is above and beyond any traditional workout, for starters. As a former runner, I have gone through two knee surgeries and years of physical therapy… never to find a workout that suited me or that didn’t cause me pain afterward.
Then I discovered barre class. I tried a few studios in the area and have to say that the Bar Method has been the most influential and effective workout I have found. Each of the instructors are so competent and knowledgable that I actually look forward to any critique they may have for me during class.
The Bar Method makes me feel stronger in all aspects of my life and I love the warmth I feel when I walk in the studio. My muscles are longer and leaner and I can especially tell I the clothes that I wear. If you are looking to step up your workout routine, or sculpt your body in a beautiful new way… this is the place for you. They will take great care of you and train your body to do things you never thought possible!

It’s a good workout but it’s not fun. I did the intro month and tried every instructor. They were all singularly focused on perfecting technique. Take a lesson from Tony Horton and P90x — workouts can be challenging and stress technique but they can also be fun.
Laughter works more muscles than most exercises.
Intense perfectionists will like this studio. Those of us wanting a challenging workout that mixes in laughter and connecting — not so much.

AMAZING.
I had the opportunity to try a few classes for free through ClassPass and have since committed to the New Client Special– a month of unlimited classes. It’s addicting!
I’ve always been more of a runner and done my best to avoid strength training. I’ve also always been a little intimidated by classes as I always feel out of sync, so trying the Bar Method was definitely out of my comfort zone. I’m so glad I gave it a whirl though because it’s been a great experience thus far!
The Place– Gorgeous studio with a very feminine feel. There are lockers available so you can lock up you shoes/​valuables and a little rack of hooks in the studio to hang your key. There is also a great locker room area with two sets of mirrors and a shower stocked with shampoo, conditioner and body wash, as well as some toiletries and a hair dryer if you need them! I take the 6AM classes typically, so this definitely comes in handy when trying to head to work after! There are also small and large towels if you need them.
The People– All the trainers are incredibly well trained and supportive of all students. They will call out names and come over and provide adjustments as they really focus on good form at the Bar Method. I’ve taken classes with almost every instructor at the Dr. Phillips studio and every time I go I have a new «favorite» instructor– they are all fantastic! I was a little intimidated to try my first class as noted above, but that quickly went away because of the positivity and warmth of the instructors. I’m also amazed at how quickly EVERY instructor has learned my name– it really makes you feel like part of the Bar Method family. Lastly, the service I’ve received from prompt replies to emails and a check-​in phone call to see how my experience has been going have been top notch!
The Experience– The Bar Method uses small, isometric movements to target different areas. The class lasts an hour, but moves fast as there are many «segments» to the class– arm work sets, thigh and seat work at the bar, round back leg work, flat back abs work, curls/​abs work, back/​seat work and stretching to finish. It definitely packs a punch! For more seasoned participants, you can also take Bar Move, which is a bit faster paced with some additional cardio benefits.
The Results– It works! Even after a few classes, I started to notice changes! Now, a few weeks in I can definitely see myself toning up and have even lost a couple pounds. I’ve also noticed in class that I’ve become more flexible and my endurance has improved. Moves that I could barely do in the past have become easier (although still challenging)!
I definitely see myself continuing to take classes and recommend it to anyone!

Coming from NYC I have been spoiled by being able to take numerous Barre classes (Pure Barre, Physique 57, Flybarre, Exhale and others) and FINALLY I was able to try Bar Method (thanks to Classpass)
Upon entry you are greeted by a very friendly staff who gives you a quick tour of the studio. The studio has a decent sized changing room and 1 shower (which is a plus as that is not always the case in NYC)
I like that the instructor read my profile sheet before class so she didn’t have to ask about injuries (recovering from a car accident so I have wrist and lower back issues)
She did a great job of prompting me to the bar when it was time for pushups and other needed modifications. She did a great job of monitoring the entire class and making sure everyone’s form was perfect without making you feel like you’ve been called out. (Like they do in Bikram Yoga! Sorry having flashbacks of militant instructors) A little tilt of the hips or the legs can make all the difference.
The class itself… I have to put it up there in my top 3 favorite studios. If I lived in Orlando hands down this would be my #1 choice! (I am a Flybarre, Physique 57 fan and now The Bar Method)
Why I do I like this over Pure which is right down the road? (To be upfront I didn’t take the Pure here in Orlando and am basing it off my NYC experiences but I could have gone on Classpass but opted out) I prefer the flow of The Bar Method and the challenging moves. While I don’t really break a sweat during a bar class they got my legs and booty working and had very creative moves. Barre classes have REALLY helped with the inner thighs as my other classes (outside of Barre) work on the larger muscles (think squats, deadlifts, lunges).
If you are thinking of trying out a Barre studio… give this one a try and I am sure you will fall in love with it (all while your legs shake like never before!) I was able to get in 3 classes during my stay… wish I could have done more!
I will def be back the next time I am in Orlando!

The Bar Method is AMAZING. All of the instructors are experts and they will inspire you to push yourself when you may think you can’t go any lower! They use hands on and verbal correction to make sure each student is in the correct form to be the most effective and safe. They will each know your name from the moment you walk in the door. Everyone is so friendly, warm, and welcoming. Its like a little family at The Bar Method. I have met so many wonderful and strong women in class!
The workout is intense and you will be sore the next day! But that’s how you know it’s working! It never really gets easier but the more you take class, you will be in better form and you will be getting the most out of it.
There has never been a time that I have walked into the studio and regretted going! I feel amazing when I finish a class. I feel taller and stronger and overall wonderful. Bar helps me stay focused and centered. I have never been a Yoga girl so this is what works for me! I have been doing cardio and weights for years but The Bar Method has allowed me to tone it up. I see real results and it’s just what I needed.
If you’re thinking about trying The Bar Method you will not regret it! It’s one of my happy places. :)

Love this place! Love the classes and instructors and the facility. From day one I was made to feel comfortable and whatever your level of fitness is it really doesn’t matter. And the instructors are great to help with form and position in every class. Both Karen and Cayce (the owners) operate a top-​notch facility and program. It is worth trying even on a trial basis. You will get hooked!

Love, love, LOVE this place! I am a Bar Method fan! I travel to Orlando quite often and make this my go to place to exercise. I belong to Bar Method and DC and what I like about this place is the friendly staff and members! Everyone is so cheerful and happy to be there. As with all BM studios, the instructors are highly trained and make sure all class participants have good form. The exercises are pretty much the same at all studios which is a good thing in my book. I highly recommend coming to Bar Method Dr. Phillips!

The Bar Method has been revolutionary for me for three main reasons.
1. The Program Itself: Injuries from running have prevented me from engaging in many high impact activities. The Bar Method is absolutely no impact– yet effective. Even though I have only gone to less than a dozen lessons, I am already seeing results. I have created curves and sculpted muscles. My butt, abs and arms are all getting tighter – really. I have to warn you though, it is very very hard. There are days when I really struggle to make it through class and I am in decent shape.
2. The Instruction: They actually care if you are «getting it». It is almost as if I am getting a one on one personal trainer during each class. The instructors are always checking on your form and correcting you. Several times after class I have asked for additional advice or more instruction and they have never once hesitated. I honestly have not seen this type of personalized attention at any other group exercise class I have taken.
3. The Staff: Karen, Emily and the rest of the team are really nice and attentive. They know everyone by their first names, greet you when you come in, and make you feel welcome. The facility is always kept clean and tidy. It just creates a very warm and supportive atmosphere when you are working out somewhere that is friendly, personalized and welcoming. This helps add the extra motivation for me when I would rather lay on my couch instead of work my muscles out.
I hesitated to write a review as I didn’t want the secret to get out, but alas, I am feeling generous tonight. If you live in the DP area check it out! They have a new client special so you really have nothing to lose.

First time taking the Bar Method class. Wow! My legs and arms were shaking the entire time! The instructor was Nancy and she was friendly and helpful.
The studio is brand new and very clean. Class is a little pricey at $ 25 for a single one but since I’m just visiting, I thought it was worth it to try.
After this experience I would def try this class back home.
Socks are required.
