I can’t believe that I’m the first reviewer of Westwind… Woot! I’ve come here twice now with friends and love camping here during Labor Day Weekend. Access to the island is always adventurous and with a ferry crossing across the waterway, and hike up the path to the lodge. Once the gear is all staged, cabins are assigned or tent sites if you’re a little more outdoorsy. The cabins are clean, yet rustic and have heat for colder days, not that it’s that cold during this time of year usually. Just make sure to bring your sleeping bag and pillows. The kitchen is well equipped and has the tools to provide large scale meals. Just bring what fancies you and your group. Beach access and hiking the hills are easy and spectacular. The views of the beach and Lincoln City are awe inspiring at the top. If you haven’t camped here, then you haven’t really camped. Of course bringing your beverage of choice always call for fun times, not to mention bringing boardgames and cards. I could go on and on, but once my friends realize they should have Unilocaled this earlier, they’ll spew out all the awesomeness Westwind has to offer. This might be one of my favorite places in the whole world. We’ve gone here about 6 times now and I always want to return the moment I get home. Want a private beach off the beautiful Oregon coast? How about a large deck you can watch a pod of whales spout from? Or an amazing hike up to a cliff that overlooks Lincoln City, the ocean, and other amazing scenery? Then Westwind is your place! There are cabins to sleep in or bring a tent and fall asleep to the sound of the ocean(not a car for miles, the only way onto the island is via a boat). The lodge has a spacious kitchen able to handle our group of 150 people. The staff is amazing and have a deep love for the estuary that makes up the island. I could go one and one about it, but you just need to see it to believe it.
