China Star Buffet

I went to this place in September with my 2 sisters and nephew and we had a wonderful overall experience. The food was very satisfying and of great quality and the service was super friendly. being that this was a very special visit, I’m happy to walk away no regrets about this choice of restaurant.

I always order my food as opposed to buffets since you have no idea how long the food has been there. The food I ordered was alright, not great, but serviceable. The staff was friendly and the price was good. I’d go back since it’s a small town and there aren’t many options for china food.

Ms T and I selected China Star for dinner while in Ottumwa. I guess we were hungry for Chinese food. This is a pretty busy buffet place. We actually could not find a place to park in their immediate parking lot on a week night.
The buffet is pretty extensive for a small town. It was surprising what they offer, expecially in the appetizer area. We had crab Rangoon, two kinds of egg rolls, potstickers, chicken wings and other stuff. The hot and sour soup was good, with a nice sour and hear level. The main offerings are pretty straight forward and not particularly exciting, but all were decent and there was plenty of choice. There was also an array of desserts including some good coconut macaroon things.
This is nothing exceptional but it is OK and typical for these small town buffets. It is clean, very well managed and the staff does a very good job of checking on you and removing the used plates.

This place is clean, the waitresses are friendly and the food is abundant, and usually fresh. They don’t make their own sauces, but you can’t hardly tell the difference. The prices are reasonable for an all-​you can eat buffet. Plus you get free ice cream cups that have been pre-​scooped. There isn’t usually a wait on weekdays, but the weekends can get pretty busy, so expect to wait a good 10 – 20 min.
The building was remodeled within the last 2 years, and it’s been a hopping place ever since.
