My Favorite Things

My mom absolutely loves this place. She would give it 5 stars, but I’ll knock it down one star because she can afford it and I can’t.
They recently moved locations from 119^th and Metcalf to Town Center Plaza. That was a great choice if you ask me, but even more of a reason to raise their prices. My mom and I went looking for some Thanksgiving décor. Believe me it’s like a turkey wonderland in that place. They have all kinds of crap for your home.
The one thing I didn’t like was the prices. Slap me silly if you think I’m going to pay $ 30 for one felt table place mat! Everything is over priced and now I know why; They have to pay that rent in town center plaza. I could make many of the things they have for sale, and I actually have. They probably hate me, I’m in there with the iPhone snapping photos of the things I’m going to make.
But if you’re in town center, it’s a great little place to stop in. A lot of the items are unique if you have the $$ to pay for them.

I really have to stop selling places short just because they’re located in a strip mall sandwiched between a Payday Loan and a Subway, you know what I mean?! Whoever the owner may be (I’m assuming a women from the merchandise sold) but from the looks of it, her favorite thing is a giant Christmas fun-​house.
I had a good time looking through it — purchasing nothing of course because in today’s economy who REALLY has the dough to pay $ 75 for a string of faux popcorn lights and a snowman-​shaped candle holder — BUT, I had a good time nevertheless. When I say fun-​house — I mean it in every sense of the word. The store is a mess of small rooms connected by twisting hallways with creaky wood floors (and any business with authentic, old wooden floors, I automatically love for its warmth and charm, ie. The New Dime Store).
Everything was a feast for the eyes and better yet — it wasn’t one of those WASPY, Johnson County perfect Christmas stores that sell colorless glitter crap to have a «classier» décor pallet. No — this place is homey. It had quilts placed over the chest drawers and the goldenrod-​colored walls were covered with paintings and cutesy kitchen phrases like, «Home is a hearth» and «Winner winner Christmas dinner.»
It was like Christmas threw up and I LOVED IT. But then again, I’m the kind of person who likes to listen to Christmas songs a little more than normal people like to and the only mass I can stomach going to is high mass on Christmas Eve — so I’m a sentimental nut.
Besides decorations, My Favorite Things is stocked with a great supply of candles — the entire store smelled of Cinnamon and spice. And it sold the ever so popular jalapeño cranberry compote (also sold at The Better Cheddar, one of the tastiest additions to cheese known to mankind) and other dips and mixes (the owner had whipped some up and set it on the counter for customers like a mother makes food for her children). If this place were any homier, I might have never left.
