Awesome bookstore, extremely helpful staff. I’m not much of a mystery fan, but my DW is and she was like a kid in a candy store when we visited. They sell both new and used books. They host several book clubs and meetings with local authors. Plenty of places to sit and read. They also serve coffee and tea. If you are looking for a page turner try Mysteryscape.

When I saw the«Coming Soon» sign go up for a bookstore in downtown Overland Park, I did an actual dance right there on the sidewalk. And then I settled down and reminded myself that a) I probably looked ridiculous and b) this was probably not going to be the bookstore of my dreams. I calmed myself down so well that I didn’t even go in for the first month the store was open. When I did finally check it out, I found it was actually well worth dancing in the street after all. Operating out of a small storefront, they seem to have an impossible variety of books on the shelves(used and new) without feeling crowded, and some sort of special fold in the physics of the building(or just really savvy planning) makes room for enormous comfy chairs to curl up in, café tables to work at, and even events. For folks like me who aren’t especially in love with mysteries, the genre is defined very broadly here. Along with books and seating there is coffee, tea, and a tiny tempting pastry case — everything you need. The owners seem to welcome everyone as dear friends, and really it seems like many of the customers have become friends at this point, lingering after each guest speakers and book club meetings to catch up with each other. I knew the store needed to be on Unilocal, but there was a tiny selfish part of me that wanted to stay in a select club of people who knew the secret. This is the place to find the perfect book or just the right gift for any book lover. It’s also the place to meet local authors, who not only come to discuss and sign their own latest books, but sometimes to discuss the book club selections right along with the rest of us. The website is well designed and scrupulously updated. It allows you to buy paper or ebooks from home(through kobo), or to check out the events calendar or see what all the different book clubs are reading.
