From experiences of comparing Indian grocery stores in large cities with a high density of Indian grocery stores(i.e New Jersey, Chicago, or cities in Southern Cali or even in the bay area of California), I must say we are lucky to have all the variety of an Indian store in any«large city, USA» with the friendly midwestern nature of this Kansan but originally Indian family-run store! Like people have said before, the hospitality and«extra mile» going nature of the ownership is phenomenal. They will always accomodate and exceed your needs. And the food is fresh and made in front of you, abiding by state health department inspected standards(well every place serving food needs to of course be licensed per protocol). Any questions? Let me know! Goodluck, and namaste! *i typed this a while ago and apparently never posted it.

Dahi poori is delicious but ask for extra yogurt otherwise it may get very spicy. Taking off 2 stars because the guy at the chaat counter didn’t honor the Unilocal checkin offer!

We stopped in here on Sunday this week, had some errands and I was wanting chaat. Found this as a likely prospect in the area where we would be, and it was just what I wanted. We had some potato and pea samosas, which came with a nice coriander hot sauce and a sweet-sour tamarind sauce. Tasty. Also a plate of dahi puri, little crackly puffed cases stuffed with potato and onion, I don’t think chick peas were in there, with the same green coriander and sweet tamarind sauce, with yogurt on top, and crunchy delicious little vermicelli bean or corn or something fried bits on top of the yogurt. The puris were served cool, which was good, surprising to me because I wasn’t expecting it, but perfect. I had a styrofoam cup of thick chai, pretty sure that was evaporated milk, cinnamon and something I couldn’t place, and not too sweet. I liked it. The snack counter food is pretty basic and the microwave is in full play, and pretty sure I can buy those samosas in the freezer section, but so what? It was great for a snacky lunch, and the folks here were incredibly friendly and nice. They could tell we were not sure what we were ordering, and went out of their way to be helpful. While our snack was being prepared we checked out the store, it was extremely clean and very well organized. A very nice small market, well stocked with everything you might need to branch out your cooking to indian/pakistani dishes. I’ve been trying to do this, but it’s nice to find a store with lots of english labels and friendly staff. And a snack bar with tables!

Sometimes you have to pick a place and just walk through the door on the hunt for good food. You never know what awaits on the other side. Came here around 5:00 p.m. looking for something to fill my hunger. I knew absolutely nothing more than the few reviews but sometimes those are the kind of places you’re glad you found because they turn out to be gems. Ordered: Samosa Chaat — savory chick peas(much lighter and tastier than the crap your local salad bar serves) apparently slow cooked in a broth, covered in a spicy red sauce with bits of green sauce interspersed, lots of fresh, uncooked raw white onions, a sprinkling of some kind of crunchy carbohydrate product that I’ve never encountered but is not unusual for any culture. Buried beneath this nice dish that had a chili-like consistency were bits of pita bread that had soaked up the mixture. One bite, eyes close, delight. The deep flavor of the chick peas, the sear of the sauce, the bite of the onion, the crunch. There’s a hell of a lot going on in this dish in a paper bowl and I finished every bit. Although I’ve been vegetarian in the past I have no desire to in the future, but this dish I could eat and never miss meat. Mango Milkshake — these tend to be way too heavy and too cold in most Indian restaurants but this one was served cool, was not overpowering, not overly sweet. A pleasing taste that off-set the heat of the Chaat nicely. These people know how to cook. Total bill: $ 5.40. Ridiculously affordable for what was served. This was a full meal. If I ate this combination at one of the destination Indian venues in the city I’d be happy to pay twice that amount or more. If you come: — Uninspired dining area of about a dozen chairs and a few small tables, questionable lighting. — If you’re looking for ambiance, move on, it ain’t here. — If you’re looking for some great casual food at a stupidly low price, it’s here. — Lots to peruse in the grocery area. Impressive. — Paper plates, plastic spoons, styrofoam cups for drinks. — Expect the Hindi language television station Aapka Colors to be blaring a bad game show in the background. — Nice folks. This may not be your kind of place, but I dig walking through a door and getting yanked out of the mind numbing Overland Park/Metcalf comfort zone. I think they had no idea how happy I was when I left with such and affordable and satisfying meal. Will I return? I will.

I love going to this store. The owners are very friendly and if you’re new to Indian food, they’ll help you out. There’s a wide selection of frozen foods if you wan the option of just heating up your meal. I go there to purchase snacks mostly and their sugar cane juice is the best.

Love this family run place! The service is great! All the ingredients you need to make homemade Indian food and spices that are hard to find elsewhere. Lots of pre-made spice packets for those of us who aren’t skilled in whipping up a korma or curry from scratch. Frozen foods and a small produce section is available. There is a small authentic Indian food snack shop that has some really tasty treats. Prices are very affordable.

I’m going to use Kev L.‘s review below as a reference point and just add a few things: 1. Great little snack bar. Not enough for a full meal, but plenty of snacking. 2. Great variety of products for the space they have. For those who love Indian cooking who don’t always have the time such cooking needs, there is an EXTENSIVE frozen section 3. Good service from friendly owners.

BEST homemade samosas anywhere!!!(Yes, HOMEMADE!!!) Just happened to run into this market while picking up some stuff at Office Depot. It’s much more different from the other Indian stores in the area in many different ways. The décor is by far the most modern out of any Indian grocery. They have a medium-sized inventory of the usual goodies. For some reason though they seem to have more crackers(I.E. «Biscuits») than anything else. Tons of Vegetarian products too. They have sort of a small mini restaurant towards the left corner of the stores. They have everything from homemade samosas to masala chai. I tried the samosa platter(Two samosas with some mint chutney & tamarind) and they were just amazing. I’m really looking forward to going back and trying a few of the other items.

This bright, friendly market in Overland Park carries all the essentials of Indian cooking, including spices, flours, dals, frozen foods, some vegetables, etc. I was happy to find Maggi coconut milk powder here, usable in all kinds of recipes, Indian or otherwise! The people who run Namaste India seem to be very nice and helpful.
