Got them on an off night again. Tuesday night. Probably cooked over weekend and reheated yesterday and today. They must be doing something right because they have made it this long. Ribs were pitiful

Visiting from Texas and found this to be the best BBQ I have ever eaten! Love that sausage! Very friendly and priced perfectly!

I try to visit a new BBQ joint every 3 weeks. I like Smokey’s and I’ll be back. Had the combo platter with onion rings. The combo was burnt ends and pulled pork. Portion size was fine with me. Not enough to take home but no leftovers either. Onion rings are huge and my dining buddy had French Fries with his order. Another large portion. Met the owner and had a pleasant visit about BBQ contests. He has plenty of experience competing on the KCBS circuit. Overall a great experience.

Food was good. Portion sizes were pretty small for the price. They were out of brisket during dinner, which was discouraging. But the service was great and you get a pretty«local mom & pop» feel from the assortment of school memorabilia.

We tried the pulled pork and cheesy potatoes, and OMG!!! It was amazing and super affordable. We will be coming back to this hidden gem!

Not a bad BBQ joint. I had half a smoked chicken, I wish it had more smoke flavor, but it was juicy. The fries were pretty good but next time will order well done. I wasn’t a fan of the beans, but my husband was. All in all better than a lot of BBQ joints in OP.

A terrific little«ma & pa» joint in Overland Park. Friendly and quick service. Place is small but very comfortable! almost feel at home(at least for me) BBQ is about the best in KC. I’d give it the slight benefit over Okie Joe’s just for it’s size and independent ownership. Always a pleasure taking friends and family members and getting a delighted response after they had their meal.

great diabetic friendly white sauce! delicious cheesy corn and the BBQ egg rolls are awesome. Boulevard sandwich is a great choice as well. Just don’t talk Royals baseball he is not a fan lol but, that’s OK the food is great and whats life if there is not a little friendly sports rivalry!

Had a going away party and was planing on having Jack Stack cater. Bill was about $ 500 for around 30 people. Two days later a friend told me about this place and I was not thrilled to go — but I went. WOW — I was really blown away and I have lived in KC all my life. Bar B Q is like Mexican(everyone has an opinion on the best) but mine are Jack Stack and Gates to give you a comparison. The burnt ends are out of this world. Talked to the owner and told him about my upcoming party — showed him the email with the quote and he started laughing. Seems they just about doubled the meat needed for my little party. He said he could do the same thing for around $ 250. Had beans(great) potato cheese whatever(great) potato salad(great…see a theme here) Ham/Brisket and burnt ends with enough sauce for everyone. Everyone asked where the $#%$ I found this place at. Had leftovers and fed around 30 people. NOBODY complained and many said the same thing I thought… some of the best they have had. You may be turned off due to the location — but give it a try.

Great place that is a hidden gem due to it’s location. I have had the Boulevard sandwich 3 times and have been pleased every time. While I may like some other token KCBBQ places better, I would recommend giving it a try if you are in the area.

I’ve been to Smokey’s several times. Ribs, pulled pork, brisket … So far, they know how to prepare /smoke every type of meat. I continue to tell everyone about it, and all have come back with amazing comments on how good the meals are.

Flavor of meat was fine but pulled pork portion size was small for the price. Onion rings were heavy battered and greasy. Potato salad tasted like it came from the grocery store. No complaints with brisket sandwich but overall an unhappy dining experience for the two of us.

Excellent BBQ! It is now our favorite and we have eaten at many, many BBQ places in town. The staff is always friendly, the restaurant is always clean, and the food quality is consistently great. We love the original BBQ sauce, we ask for extra if carrying out. The Boulevard Fries are so delish!

Tried Smokey’s on the recommendation of someone at a business meeting who gave it two thumbs up. Smokey’s is a great little, independent BBQ shop. The owner explained(as he took our order) that he developed a lot of the recipes because he is diabetic and needed good food that conformed to his needs. But you wouldn’t think«diabetic food» once you sink your teeth into the brisket sandwich. It is very good, and a co-worker had the Boulevard Sandwich and said it was excellent. I thought the fries were good. They were thick cut(not wedges) instead of the skinny fries so many places have switched to. My co-worker said the baked beans were really good as well. The BBQ eggrolls on the menu were intriguing, but we decided to wait for another day to try them. This is definitely on my list of great BBQ places in the area!

Great food and customer service! Had the pork sandwhich with fries and it was delicious. BBQ sauces are great as well, and they offer a variety of choices. Not too expensive for how much food you get. Will definatly be going here again soon.

Are you kidding me? Can BBQ get any better than what I’ve eaten here? I’ve had the Boulevard sandwich three times here. The word-of-mouth advertising for this sandwich is something else. Prior to going here, I heard 3 different people talk about how this is the best sandwich they’ve ever had. Seriously? In BBQ-laden KC people, including myself, are very hesitant to claim any BBQ is the«best». Everyone has their favorites, but we are reticent to claim the title of «best». This sandwich will slap your palate silly and tell you to stop messing around with other«BBQ» places. The BBQ eggrolls are out of this world, the beans are 2nd to none, and the service is terrific. Everyone that works here takes pride in what they make. Good luck getting that at most restaurants in JoCo, let alone anywhere. I give it 6 Unilocal stars. Don’t wait to go, lunch time is right around the corner.

I went here on Saturday to try it out because I was in the mood for something new and this place was close to where I was shopping. I was pleasantly surprised by how good it was. One thing I noticed was the lack of trophies and ribbons which kind of surprised me but Jason(owner and chef) explained that he had a couple of them but he didn’t want to bring them into the restaurant for display to get all dirty. I can understand that, but I also appreciated the fact that I was not confronted with a barrage of boasting and bragging in the décor. There is nothing I can’t stand more than a BBQ joint that displays ribbons and trophies from over a few years ago and expects to impress someone that grew up in a family thats competed in BBQ competitions for many years. Jason was really awesome to talk to about things and when I asked him questions or debated whether one BBQ joint was better than another he simply won me over by starting off with«BBQ is always subjective, but in my opinion…» That in and of itself told me that he knows what he likes and makes it, but also respects others product. Another thing that really impressed me was that the other owner of this place is a diabetic and finding sauce that he can eat is hard. So what did Jason do… he created a cream based BBQ sauce that actually tasted pretty good. It comes on the BLVD Fries which are really tasty by the way. Just knowing that he did that made everything that much better, but also added to how passionate he is about BBQ. Now on to the food. We ordered a whole slab of ribs, burnt ends, blvd. fries, cheesy potato bake, and BBQ beans. I was very satisfied by the quality of food this place produced. The ribs had some good bark on them, the burnt ends were tender and delicious although next time I will order them without sauce so I can taste them more, blvd. fries were great, cheesy potato bake was really good and it reminded me of hash brown casserole, and the beans were good. Im a big fan of Oklahoma Joes BBQ Beans so the beans here were good, but certainly not better than Oklahoma Joes in my opinion. Something that really surprised me was that Jason brought out samples of something new he was working on to let us try. I don’t want to say what it was because I am not sure if its on the menu yet or not. I would recommend this BBQ joint for place to go to that is priced well, serves quality food, but overall benefits a Father/Son ownership that has a deep passion for BBQ. If you stop by make sure to talk to Jason about his story and how much work he does to create the items on his menu its really interesting to hear.

I love BBQ and my parents have been here a hand full of times so I thought I would try it as well. I was HIGHLY disappointed. My favorite thing at most BBQ places are burnt ends. I had such high hopes but they were awful! They were so dry and hard to chew. I was there at lunch time and expected the food would still have some sort of moisture in the meat. Nope. I was wrong. I am kind of a BBQ snob after living in Texas for the first half of my life and then in KC for the other half. I don’t think I will every get burnt ends again. Maybe try some other meat next time…
