I have been wanting jerk chicken for a while and pass by this restaurant nearly EVERYDAY(I have wanted to stop by this restaurant for about 7 years and never got a chance to do it). One day, my boyfriend and I decided to stop in and were really impressed. The amount of food that we got for $ 10 was. I got jerk chicken, rice & beans, and cabbage(they give you cornbread). Besides the amazing food, the two employees were very nice and I think the inside of the restaurant is really cute. It reminds me of a diner. Thanks for that amazing food!

The jerk chicken meat is very Tastey but it was extremely spicy. I threw away the skin, it was alittle fatty, I just stuck to the meat but couldn’t eat much. I would recommend if high spice: Heat content is not an issue. The Mac and cheese, corn, & sweet potatoes were excellent !! I hated the small inside w just bar stools, barely able too pass other individuals, definitely a «to go» type place. They’ve been around a long time, I’m sure all of the food is extremely Tastey.

Went for dinner tonight, first and last time there. Where do I begin? I ordered rice and peas and curry goat. To my surprise I noticed the guy that took my order placed my food in a styrofoam plate and proceeded to place it in the microwave. I finally got my food and realized that the rice had a burnt smell. The goat had a smell also. I am Jamaican and by far this is the worst Jamaican food I’ve ever ordered. I couldn’t stand the smell or the taste of the rice I notified the guy behind the counter and told him that I didn’t like the taste of the goat and would rather have the brown stew chicken instead. I asked for a separate plate and the guy gave me the biggest attitude ever like I was asking for free food. My wife ordered the jerk chicken and macaroni and cheese and the Mac and cheese was bone dry. We noticed that the food was not fresh and was sitting under a heating lamp. We ordered Pepsi and of course they were out. Do yourself a favor and stay far away.

My coworker raved about this place and he finally went and got some to share with me. The chicken was great, nice and tender and flavorful. The fries were good, but I would want the jerk sauce on the side to keep my fries from getting soggy.

I love the food and service that I get at Mi Hungry. Reuben and his family are always so welcoming and also let you try the different things on the menu. The place is small but that’s okay because in his establishment everyone is treated like his own family.

Simply put, this place never has what’s on their own menu. I’ve been numerous times, and I don’t know why I torture myself. I had one really good experience with this place and the rest have been terrible; once, they had two cans of soda in the entire place so we were stuck with a nasty orange drink, and typical ordering goes: «Do you have the polish sausage?» «No.» «How about the pulled pork?» «No.» «Escovitch fish?» «No.» «Johnnycakes?» «No.» «Cobbler?» «No.» Seriously. The sides are somehow usually still cold after a) being in chafing dishes and b) being microwaved. There is no reason at all to eat in this place nor is there reason to get takeout.

If you’ve never had food poisoning and wonder what it’s like, this is the place for you. The food sits out all day. The lemonade comes from a five gallon Home Depot bucket in a dirty styrofoam cup. I got the combo deal to try several things plus ordered catfish fillets to try them. I’ll eat almost anything at all. I got the catfish down mostly. It was soggy and weird tasting. The rice topped with assorted meat was so nasty and strong smelling that I puked in my mouth a little. I tried hard to eat some and it gave me instant heart burn. Whatever vertebrae bones the meat was before it sat out all day it’s hard to say. I puked it back up about an hour later. I’m a manly man, not some coconut water drinking, gluten-free macaroon eating, girlie man. My first job was working in the log woods cutting trees and working at a sawmill. After college I spent most of my adult life in the military fighting the war on terror. I’ve traveled around the world and can honestly say that this is the worst food that I’ve ever paid money for; $ 38 including tip. Good luck!

This guy at the counter who looks like the owner, was rude. Bathroom is nasty and food tastes like it has been sitting there for two weeks. I basically walked in and walked out. Apparently, customer service is lacking in this place. A simple hello means a lot.

Best jamican food i know of in the lou! This restaurant is located on a busy street, but not obvious if you are not looking for it. They also have a food truck that stops at different places. The one place i usually catch it is at the walgreens in cwe near the schnucks. The food overall was very good. The jerk chicken is as authentic as you can get it in st louis. Its spicy and definitely has been rubbed with the jamican spices. Ribs and rib tips were nice and smokey and the sauce went well with it. The other meats were not incredibly memorable. The plaintains and greens were average. Not the best jamican ive had — but best ive had in stl. The restaurant itself is cafeteria style and for some reason took a long time to serve very few customers. The interior is not a great environment for sitting and wating but more for picking up and getting out.

I have ate this food before on the food truck they have close to Clayton. First time at the restaurant last night and will probably be the last. The rib tibs were barely edible, curry chicken was mostly bones, the jerk chicken was so over cooked and dry it was almost non edible. The cabbage and rice were good. Needles to say very disappointed. Will go the food truck whenever I see it but the restaurant never again.

The number one point I want to make about Mi Hungry — there food is great. Our family moved here from San Diego and it has taken some time to adjust to the food scene in St. Louis. Mi Hungry is a gem in the rough. I feel lucky to have found the joint and continue to be a patron. The family running this small shop are amazingly kind and friendly. Now, to the issue… I do not get food from the restaurant unless my desire for jerk overwhelms my common sense. The clutter and, more importantly, the cleanliness are disturbing. The shop needs a complete top to bottom clean and inspection. I will continue to pay close attention to Mi Hungry so I can catch them at events. This is where they specifically shine. Fresh BBQ and meats right off the grill with their AMAZING jerk sauce(the hot is more than worth the burn!!). If you have not tried them I encourage new customers but please be aware of what to expect.

This is a nice little Jamaican place just off the highway, don’t go to fast you may pass it up. They offer a Jamaican Bar B Q ty o e cusine. I’m not sure about the authenticity of the Jamaican flavors of the food as I have never been to Jamaica. However, the food tastes pretty good, the servings are not huge but you will be satisfied. The BBQ tastes pretty good, I haven’t really experienced a lot of the menu and nothing realky WoW me, with the food but I have had the rib tips and snoots and I can tell you, I’m real happy with that dish. It’s off the highway so if you go to fast you may pass it up. When you go there get that rum punch they have it’s a little pricey bit not more than some larger places and you will enjoy your food and relax, you get a cup of the rum punch for $ 6 the owner makes it himself and a gallon last I heard was going for $ 50 its pretty good and I recommend you try it. This place is not the most conducive to an enjoyable meal if you eat in. However if you dont mind the traffic and conversation you will be okay. If you want something different it may not look like much from outside but the food is tasty for Jamaican dish for a change.

Recently moved to STL from ATL and was looking for a Caribbean spot, since they are everywhere in Atlanta, and found this one. Walked in and the food all looked very good, but could only choose one, so chose the OxTails. They are different from how I am used to Caribbean OxTails tasting, but good nonetheless. When I am in town, I go pretty much every weekend. Def worth checking out.

My friend Cindy and I love to try new places. New to us. So we decided to try Jamaican food. We were not disappointed. Mi Hungry has been around for about 5 years and when we got there that day they were out of several items but because they offer so many items there was still plenty to choose from. We each had dinner plates which gave us 3 meats and 2 sides. Between the two of us we had wings, bbq rib tips, jerk chicken and fried catfish. The sides we had were French fries, yams, green beans, mashed potatoes. Everything was really good. The sauce on the food was really great. I even bought some bbq sauce and Cindy bought some jerk seasoning. Their sauces are money. Their portions are huge. The foods taste is exceptional. We plan on going back. I gave it 4 stars because the building itself could be updated.

I having been driving past this place for years and never stopped by. I’m so glad I did yesterday ! I had the jerk tilapia and it was very very good !! My daughter and my niece had jerk chicken and rib tips. They also had the Mac n cheese and sweet potatoes… they were delighted and happy. the aroma almost made me try the chicken on our way home(left overs to go) but I didn’t as I am fasting and can only have fish. The staff was also very friendly !

My first visit The food was awesome and the portions were healthy. I had the curry chicken with greens and string beans. All was very good The owner was very accommodating and helpful in making a choice. Restaurant was VERY small and not so clean… Not sure what this building was in its former life The only real negative is that I purchased A coupon from restaurant. Com and the owner tried to tell me he had to add 18% to the bill before subtracting the discount… If they say that, don’t fall for it… That is not how restaurant. Com works… If you don’t want to give the discount then don’t participate in the program Three stars due to the scam he tried on me

My wife and I stopped at Mi Hungry this week after driving by it many, many times. It was once an old school diner. We got there around 11:00 am. We were the first customers for the day. The lady(I’m assuming one of the owners) behind the counter was very friendly and gave us a warm welcome. She had her son cleaning windows, but it still had the feel of an old greasy-spoon. There were tons of things to choose from. I had Oxtails and my wife had a mixed plate of Ox tails and Curried Goat. The portions were huge. In fact we both had two BIG plates each(4 plates total) – one for our sides(sweet potatoes, greens, peach cobbler and corn bread) the other for our main dish, which was served on a bed of rice which covered the entire plate. Everything tasted very good. So why only 3-Stars? Well, after I told the very-nice lady what sides I wanted, she dished them out of the steam table, and then threw them in a microwave; same for the meat… no bueno. When my wife suggested we share a plate instead of getting two, the owner told us that would be an additional $ 2.00 charge to share a plate if we ate it in the restaurant… strike two. I hadn’t paid attention to the prices at all until I got my bill at the end after we ate,(which is totally my fault, not theirs) but it was $ 36 for lunch, without tip. Now I will say for the amount of food you get, that price is totally fair. I just wasn’t expecting it… my fault for not paying attention. Either way, I would probably go back. But I just would get it to go and take it home and microwave it myself.
