Have been twice in the past two months once with horrible service. At that visit got nacho and paid $ 4.95. Returned today and order the exact same thing and again had horrible service and was charged $ 8.95. I was charged for a side of everything including a sm cheese dip. When I attempted to resolve received no help and they didn’t appear to care. 8.95 for chips, beans, rice and cheese. NO meat!!! Will never return!!!

Very bland food… the hot sauce is ok very mild. Just a little warmer than tomato sauce. Ordered steak nachos and had no flavor at all.

Here for the weekend on business and came here on a Friday night around 7pm with some co-workers. We were seated as soon as we walked in, but that was about the only thing good I can say. Once seated we waited about 15 minutes or so to even be asked what we would like to drink. Apparently the waitress had thought someone else had already greeted us, however she was the only waitress in the bar area(besides the bartender). I will also note the restaurant wasn’t packed and didn’t seem understaffed for there to be such a long wait. Out of the 4 of us, 3 of us ordered bar drinks(2 long islands and 1 margarita x 2 orders). The drinks were ok, the second round was a bit less satisfying as the first, but still was ok. Our food took about 40 min(maybe longer) to come out and we could tell that others had had the same issue. Two of the orders had something wrong with them, as well as their food being cold(one was a quesadilla, the other a chimichanga). My food was ok. I ordered Steak tacos and rice. I wish the tacos would have had some type of onion/cilantro topping, but was still ok without all the garnishing. Unfortunately, no one was a fan of the rice. I am a full believer in second chances, so I would give this place another try to see if the second time around would be better, but it will be awhile before that happens.

Today the kitchen is short staffed and the Restraunt is extremely packed. Tempers are flying with a table in the corner. Seriously it’s just Sunday Lunch people, relax. Well at least an hour later our food arrived and I usually eat it all but I ate maybe 25%, wife is furious about service and food is really bad today.

This is honestly one of my favorite Mexican food places in town. I know people that work here and they are really nice! The ingredients are always very fresh. I went a couple weeks ago, and have probably been about 7 or 8 times in the duration of living here. Anything you get with chicken will most likely be delicious. However they season and prep chicken is definitely working for them in my book. Good guacamole, cheese and salsa! The atmosphere is nice, and is normally not crowded or anything. There is a full, decent bar as well. It is almost kind of hidden away from the road, and most of my friends don’t really know about it. This will always be one of my go-to Mexican food places in the Oxford area. There are even Mexican places closer to my house and I’d still rather make the trek to Frontera.

Chips and salsa were good, hot sauce on request was pretty tasty, but the food was mediocre at best. Raised the score from one to two because the furniture is hand carved wood and very nice. P. S. The urinal is only usable if you are six foot tall, which fortunately I am!

To steal a tag line from a cute little Chihuahua… Run to the Frontera! You impress me by using real food, from scratch and taking time and effort to make every plate come out right. That’s what I got here. Quaint, amateur paintings with a Mexican focus, deep carved wooden chairs and tables, artifacts on the wall(although too few and too small) give this place the feel of at least being near the border. The oddly inappropriate Victorian style lighting is a bit bright… good for a family with young kids, bad for adults that want to relax. Remove these lights and sell them on EBay and add intimate lighting at each table and this place would be muy fabuloso! Typical, somewhat Americanized, dishes fill the menu but they do offer beef, chicken, seafood and vegetarian. A few dishes save the menu from being too boring.(Enchiladas Mole… etc…) I’ve seen several Fronteras in the area causing me to worry this was my arch enemy… the chain. They may be a chain… but they don’t cook like one. They take simple ingredients and prepare them from scratch. Nothing I ate or saw resembled prepackaged. My enchiladas verdes were elegant… something hard to find in American Mexican food. A simple flour tortilla filled with chucks of chicken that appeared to have been cooked as a breast moments before with a light amount of cheese covered with a tart tomatillo sauce. The balance and simplicity was amazing. The portions are nice and the prices are even nicer! They have many entrees for $ 7.50! Their plating is a bit messy making it hard to find enchiladas buried under refried beans etc… Just another tidbit that keeps them from getting 5 stars. Service is pleasant and attentive but language can be a stumbling block. Relax, listen and speak clearly and calmly and your whole evening will be more enjoyable. A full bar, notably stocked with good tequilas, is beautiful taking up one end of the restaurant. For now, Frontera sits just on the border between a 4 and a 5 star rating. A few adjustments here and there and they’ll be a solid 5. They are well worth your time, money and patience.
