Burgers are superb. BBQ is on my top 10 favorite list. And the BBQ totchos are something you must try. Also, if you’re blessed enough to visit on a Friday, I 100% recommend the Grouper Fish Sticks. They’re incredible fish and chip style battered fish filets. The Reuben sandwich is also phenomenal as they use home made smoked corned beef. I definitely recommend this to someone visiting Oxford

I went for dessert. Don’t go for dessert. I was looking for Dwayne Ingraham and guess what. Got em! After watching Dwayne on the Food Network, I set out for Mississippi determined to eat his cookies and things. This was the third place I searched. I ordered something like an apple turnover with a scoop of ice cream. It was okay. Alright, it was tasty but nothing like the dessert I had at City Grocery. Same chef, different results. I can’t say I was disappointed though because again, I finally spotted Dwayne hanging out and I took pictures, too! The atmosphere was dark and very casual.

I came here as a tourist that was influenced to come here after watching the Anthony Bourdain special. I came here on an average Wednesday night and they had a band playing during happy hour. I had the roast beef po boy and it was delicious. Even more impressive was the hand cut fries that were seasoned perfectly. The inside was a little dark, but neat. I’d give this place 5 stars, but the staff could have been a little more friendly. There was also only one beer on tap that night. I would visit this place again because of the food and ambiance. And I don’t mind it’s a mile north of «The Square.»

I saw this place on the Anthony Bourdain show and made a note to go there. They had some good beers on tap, one of em was a local(Hattiesburg) IPA which was delicious. So good I had to go back there and have 3-more… The place has a nice atmosphere and a really cool bar. We just wanted to take it easy one night so we decided to eat dinner there… I had the brisket which was delicious. Some of the other items on the menu looked quite tasty also. Would have been 5-stars but one of the bartenders sneezed and used his bar-towel to cover /wipe his nose, mouth… Then used that same towel to dry off some wine glasses and put them back on the shelf. Needless to say, I didn’t order any wine.

Tonight I got the pulled pork plate with coleslaw, baked beans and a biscuit. The pulled pork was dry and tasted a little old so I had to send it back, and ordered brisket instead. The brisket was moist and tender and very flavorful. The coleslaw got an A plus. It was crisp, a little sweet, and they diced up the vegetables which I like. Biscuit was okay but not exciting. City grocery and Honey Bee’s has the best biscuits in town!!! I wanted to order the barbecue ribs but Lamar Lounge only offers those on Saturday nights. So if you’re hankering for barbecue ribs then make sure you plan to go on a Saturday! Best drink! Is a margarita muddled with jalapeños! That was my brothers idea, so the bartender does not get credit for that wonderful inspiration.
