I give this place a strong«meh». The rolls were pretty mediocre. It’s all rolls, and most of what I hot was falling apart. Nothing traditional, most of it is fried and sauced. The all you can eat is limited to a selection of 15 or 16 rolls. The seating is pretty limited. They seem to only have two kinds of raw fish; salmon and tuna, and I really couldn’t tell if it was sushi grade. I’d say the second star is because it’s sushi, and it’s not possible to fuck sushi up to the point of being a 1 star review, plus the staff was really nice. The food was really disappointing, though. Maybe this place is more about the Tappan than the sushi. Either way, I wouldn’t recommend the sushi.

I gave this place a 5 star before(Couple of years ago) but this place has gone down hill! It’s a Friday afternoon about 5p. m! Coming home from work and I called my family to see if they want me to pick something up to eat. They picked Kampi after getting everyone’s order, I get out my car and walk into Kampi. It looked a little packed. I waited till the waitress was available. After I order my stuff, she ask where I wanted to be seated. I told her I was going to take it to go! She said they don’t do «To go orders» :/I was confused on why I couldn’t order, pay, and TAKEITHOME! Lol I just didn’t get it! I just went to Waba Grill next door!

I’ve been going to Kampai every other year for me and my best friend’s birthday for the past 7 … or I guess 14 years. It does not have the best food, but the ambience and the fact that on your birthday they slap a dumb paper hat on you and sing while banging a drum is a selling point and I have years of pictures to back that up. We went there tonight for our 30th goddam birthday. First they lost our reservation. Nice. Then when they finally sat us we had to wait nearly an hour while people seated after us were given their food, and getting so much as a drink refill was like pulling teeth. To top off how bad the service was at the end of the night our waitress came up and told us «oh yeah, there’s been a bunch of graduations tonight, so we can’t do a birthday thing for you» Wow. Nice. Guess tonight was the end of a long standing tradition. Thanks for an awesome birthday Kampai. You’re awesome.

This place has really gone down hill… I hate to say it. We walked in and the place was completely empty. It smelled like old oil and sewer. We used to come here all the time and I had high hopes for a great dinner tonight. But the tables and chairs were sticky… The smell made us feel sick so we left. I would hate to know what would happen if we were to stay and actually eat.

Been coming here for about 15 years so my review is obviously a little biased! However… when you know who to ask for on service… and where to sit… one seldom gets disappointed!!!

I have been going here for years! It has gone through a lot of change but the teppan meals are still delicious. Their mixed rice is like no other and their white and brown sauce are heavenly. I love their salad dressing and chicken noodle soup too. I don’t really eat the sushi and other meal options. My go to dish is always the steak and scallop combo.

Love this place, the service has always been great! I love the all you can eat sushi bar for $ 17 I believe, but you still have the option to order from the menu. Just over all great place, oh and kids pay their age(3yrs old=$ 3) for the all you can eat sushi.

This place is great! We have now made this my birthday dinner restaurant of choice. My boyfriend and I did the intimate experience teppanyaki table for just us two. Our chef was very talented and very engaging. The food was delicious and the side salad was heaven. I enjoyed the entire experience from start to finish and even went home with leftovers. We are going again this Friday with 14 of our friends and I can’t wait to share such a wonderful dining experience for my birthday!

Went here last night with my family. We all decided to order the Ramen soup. None of us were able to finish our soup due to the utter disgusting taste. The waitress would take our drinks to refill them, and never bring them back. Upon informing the waitress about our drinks, then she would bring them back and did not even apologize. At the end of the meal, when told how horrid our experience was, she only gave my mother a complimentary glass of wine. Today, she contacted the owner of the restaurant, «Mr. Kuroda», he was very rude and sassy. The owner laughed in my mothers face at her disappointment with the food and stated«Only one person a week orders ramen». Upon informing him our experience would be brought to , he questioned what Unilocal was. Im glad to say that this was the last time I will ever return to this restaurant. ((Had to edit my review as a single word is against the Unilocal guidelines. All information and words in this paragraph are my own and my own ideas.))

This is not the restaurant you should visit if you are a fish lover and enjoy sushi – the quality of the fish is exceptionally low(not only can you see that it is, you most surely can taste it). Furthermore, they don’t have any variety. Overall, very disappointed. I will not be returning, nor would I recommend it as a sushi restaurant to anyone I know.

This is actually a fairly reasonable Japanese grill. You can spend as much as you would at Shogun if you really want to, but we got a plate that included grilled veggies, fried rice and grilled chicken for I think it was $ 10 per plate. I’ll check on that with my husband and if there is no update, then you’ll know that was the price. My husband’s friend eats here at least weekly and he’s the one that turned my husband onto it and now I love it too. It’s not formal in any way. It looks old, but so what? You’re not going for a high class meal and besides, you get what you pay for. You’re going for good food, good entertainment(the Japanese grill chefs) and good service, at a good price. For that reason it’s a five-star eatery. Tip: eat an earlier dinner and there’s little to zero wait time. We arrived at 5:30 and there was only one other couple there. By the time we left, there were dozens more folks.

My first time here and I enjoyed it. I was very impressed with the food and the presentation. We were seated right away and the cook was friendly & constantly interacting with us asking if everything was good. I would come back for family gatherings. Overall great experience.

All my friends and family come here often! We come for all occasions: birthday, holiday, anniversary, date night, and most recently graduation celebration dinner! My husband and I always order sushi before hand(I’m on fire roll and the crunchy roll are the BEST) they have great Teppan specials and plenty of food for the price! We come here because of the value and great food, we have never been disappointed with wait time or service here. The place is pretty dated in style, but that doesn’t bother us. we keep coming back because the price here is great for my family alone! Yea Osabi in Ventura is just as good… But it’s pricey. And the Teppan steakhouse in Oxnard just isn’t great in service(we have been there 2 – 3 times) bring your family here for an entertaining dinner and great memories.

I really like this place. Service is always prompt during lunch time and the food is always good and fresh. We(two of us) always order one lunch special and it’s more than enough food to share — sushi roll, steak, shrimp, soup, salad, veggies, rice and ice cream for dessert. We get a nice meal for a little over $ 20 total, so it’s definitely an affordable lunch spot.

This review is for the service. Went to kampai on a Friday night. Waiting to be seated, waited for almost an hour and we had to go up and ask the hostess how much longer and she said she didn’t know and they hadn’t seated us because they didn’t have any high chairs available(my two year old niece was with us). Well thanks for telling us during our wait that there was a hold up because we had the baby. They should have done a better job at apologizing and letting us know why we were waiting so damn long. Two girls just standing there doing nothing. Unbelievable. We decided to leave because the baby was hungry and we didn’t get an estimate as to how much longer the wait would be. I don’t think I would return.

Been here quite a few times and the food is great, the fried rice is bomb I always pour the white sauce over everythin, I would recommend coming during lunch hours because of the prices change for dinner time, they have an assortment of mixed drinks which is a plus, this place is definitely good for any occasion whether it be a first date or a birthday

Never tried the Teppan, but the sushi bar is cozy, inexpensive, and we are regulars. This is not a fancy sushi bar, but we love it. Try the fire roll. That’s what I come here for. And great prices, friendly staff, etc.

After shopping next door at Big 5, my wife and I decided to drop into«Kampai». We were not sure what to expect, but their $ 10 evening offering sounded right. Long story short, the chef chopped and clattered his way through our chicken fried rice offering in front of us. it was fun to watch an good to eat. The restaurant was quite full for a Tuesday night. We plan to return here, next time we’ll have a little less seasoning on our food. Footnote: While the chef’s chopped, clanged, tossed and shake at various tables, it was sad to see kids, with their faces stuck in their«IPads» missing the whole event.
