My wife and I have been here several times over the last few years. Each time is less enjoyable than the previous one. Today was just ok. We dined here with another couple who were equally unimpressed with both the food and their wine. We won’t be back. I hate to write bad reviews because I know how negatively it affects businesses who try hard to please. Your opinion might be different about this place so do check it out if you HAVE to have kosher food. Otherwise, there are plenty of other choices for fine food and wine.

My wife and I came for Valentine’s Day, because the bar is full and they told us we can sit at the table behind the bar for wine tasting. So we sit at the table, then we wait about 10 minutes, finally, a waitress show up and pour us our 1st wine, then we wait another 20 minutes, no one show up to pour us our 2nd wine. During the wait, I approach to the wine tasting bar TWICE to get someone who can help us, but all 3 of them either ignore me or ask me to wait. All other customers /couples got a rose, we didn’t get any. All the customers who sit at the bar got served, even 2 other couples who sit at other side of our table got served. But we got IGNORED&NOSERVICE. This is the most terrible wine tasting service I’ve ever had. Thank you for ruining our Valentine.

My wife and I went to Tierra Sur for new years’ eve dinner a week ago. The venue was beautiful and the setting was great — we appreciated the self-guided walking tour of the winery and the fact that they seated us quickly despite the holiday. We were given menus and quickly placed our orders with our waiter for appetizers and main dishes. 45 minutes later, a(different) waiter approaches us and tells us that the kitchen is having difficulty preparing our food. The original waiter approaches us 10 minutes later and gives us another appetizer(beef tartare) that neither my wife nor I ate, as neither of us eat raw meat. After over an hour, our original appetizer arrived. The appetizer was good, but nothing special. Our main dishes arrive and are satisfactory but did not live up to reviews. We have had a lot of experience eating at Kosher steakhouses in New York(our home) and throughout our travels, and this steak was the low end of average. We had much better steak the night before at Shiloh’s and the night before that at Ditmas Kitchen(highly recommend). Before we had the opportunity to order dessert, a(third!) waiter approached our table with orange flan as a complimentary dessert for the delay in our appetizers and the fact that neither of us ate the beef tartare. While I appreciated the gesture, neither my wife nor I are fans of flan and therefore we did not eat much of the complimentary dessert. Note to the management of the restaurant: if you find yourself complimentarily giving a guest a free appetizer or dessert, either choose something that’s a popular dish or ask what they’d want. Judging from the Unilocal reviews neither of the dishes they served us were popular choices, and neither of them were things we were excited about eating. I’d much rather have my food on time, but if there’s a delay(which is understandable and occasionally unavoidable) I’d rather something I’d actually eat. Subsequently we waited another 40 minutes(I was timing at this point, more out of sheer hilarity) for yet another waiter to take our credit card. Start-to-finish our dining experience was almost 3 hours and was underwhelming at best. It’s possible that the subpar service we encountered was due to the fact that it was New Year’s Eve(despite the large number of staff present); whatever the reason, the service was awful and the food only moderately good. We would not return and would not recommend others to do the same: there are restaurants closer to Los Angeles with equally good or better food and infinitely better service.

Overpriced and overrated. Food is good and service is good, but too expensive and the portions are small. I ordered a cesar salad, which turned out to be large strips lettuce– they didn’t even both to cut it up before serving it. Their burger was good, but again not filling. The atmosphere was nothing special. No views. Dark. Won’t be returning.

Came here for dinner about two weeks ago, it was an exceptional dining experience. I never would have thought of lamb bacon or lamb chorizo but both were AMAZING, can’t stop thinking about it now and can’t wait to go back for more! I had the short rib dinner and it practically melted in my mouth. We also had the fried tongue with tomatillo sauce, delish! We shared a bottle of delicious red wine and for dessert had a trio of fresh churros with dipping sauce, the molten lava cake with homemade pumpkin ice cream and the coffee ice cream, all wonderful. The service was also exceptional, I have been telling anyone who will listen to me that they need to give this place a try, I highly recommend!

Visited Tierra Sur at Herzog Wine Cellars 2 week ago with my folks and didn’t know what to expect from the place as I haven’t lived in the area for quite some time. Well now I know! The evening started in the quaint tasting room with Sergio describing the wines and a little history of the facility and even some information about the restaurant. We are not Jewish and don’t much about the traditions and didn’t know anything about Kosher food preparation. The manager Mike was around and he took some time explaining what it means to run a Kosher kitchen and to serve Kosher wine. It was cool to get that knowledge before eating one of the best meals of my life. The professionalism of all employees encountered reminded me of the 5-star environment I used to work in. everyone was attentive and prepared to take care of their guests… something I haven’t experienced in a while. Jacob was our server and although he was a newer employee, he was attentive and professional and he added to our excellent evening. I enjoyed Herzog’s Variation 3 the most during our tasting so naturally I ordered a glass with dinner. Meals were shared around the table and the serving sizes were healthy which isn’t so standard in such a fine dining atmosphere and it was welcomed especially since the food was so dang good! I ordered the salmon steak and it was by far the best I’ve ever had. This was all finished with the freshest and most delicious churros with delectable dipping sauces. the chipotle chocolate was by far my favorite :). This might be the most expensive restaurant in Ventura County but if you have an opportunity the money is well worth the taste and quality. Enjoy!

We had such a great experience at this restaurant. We were traveling home to San Francisco from Los Angeles, so we stopped here with children. Despite coming to a fancy restaurant with two small kids, they were very accommodating and friendly. The service was great. When we called to make a reservation, the hostess even suggested the coupon from travel zoo, which we used happily. The food itself was outstanding. Everything was tasty, cooked to perfection, and creative. We enjoyed our visit thoroughly and would definitely come again!

Food was prepared well and we enjoyed the meal! The rib eye was amazing and cooked to perfection! The lamb chorizo was awesome and I highly recommend. This was our first kosher experience and it was quite interesting and the server was very knowledgable and explained the«why» of the tradition. We sat outside and the lighting was a little dark. The service was a little slow but overall it was nice! The winery is also great and people were very nice we had a great time. Food was a bit pricey.

I came here for dinner with my family because I purchased a TravelZoo voucher for dinner for 4 people. We each got a first course and an entrée. Reservations were fairly easy to make by calling the winery, however they only had 5:30pm available for the date I needed. It’s a little earlier than we would normally eat dinner, but we had a great time. They are also closed Fridays & Saturdays. The service was very attentive and the food was great. I believe this is the first time I’ve ever dined at a kosher restaurant, and I was impressed with the quality and taste of the food. All 4 of us really enjoyed our meals. We also shared a dessert, which was tasty. The wines we each chose by the glass complemented our dinners very nicely. I would consider going back if I were in this area again. I would be interested in trying more of their wines as well.

I’ve visited the winery many times over the last while, and have never left unimpressed. The service & food are always excellent. The pricing is not bad at all. This place compares with the best of kosher restaurants in NY. The one obvious downside is how far it is from LA. Although, that is sometimes a plus, as it ensures it isn’t packed. All in all, if you’re looking for great food, a nice drive(take the 10) and some fantastic wine, this is the place for you to go.

Like most other reviewers we came with a coupon. In our case one from Travel Zoo. There were 5 of us and they offered us a little private dining room which was lovely. Coupon for 2 entitled us to 2 starters up to $ 24 each and 2 entrees up to $ 54 each. In most restaurants that would have included anything on the menu but not here. Prices were shockingly high for anywhere in LA and definitely in Oxnard. I had an heirloom tomato and peach salad that was good and my husband had a Caesar. Both were good. He liked his salmon but my steak wasn’t even close to the rare that I ordered. I would have ordered the lamb but it was $ 78 – pretty pricey for anywhere! Wine was surprisingly good. We ordered a Cab reserve from Alexander Valley. $ 50 – only $ 2 higher than their retail price. We had lovely gracious service and it was a pretty setting, but for that much money we could go to almost any of the finest places in LA.

Found out after lunch they were staring at us because we were showing our elbows. Started with the trio of cucumber and beet salad, hummus and marinated olives. And they brought out 3 little dishes and nothing else. What am I suppose to eat these with? Finally brought out some bread for us. As for the actual lunch, while 2 out of the 4 dishes we had were ok, they definitely did not justify the expensive price tag. $ 32 for a caesar salad with ahi tuna! At least tear my lettuce! I got a head of romaine with the bottom cut off with a couple croutons and a little piece of seared tuna. $ 30 for a chicken sandwich with bacon, avocado and fries. Don’t even try the vegetable pizetta unless you really really like mushrooms. And you call it an Asian brisket sandwich because it’s suppose to resemble a banh mi sandwich? The meat is shredded like it came out of a crock pot which is gross. Kosher or not, this place sucked. Only came her because of the Living Social deal and won’t go back.

We came here to use a groupon offer and glad we did. Usually when we mention a groupon deal, the service goes down. But not at Tierra sur. After our wine tasting we headed over to the small but cozy dining room. We were one of the firsts for the evening and chose where to sit. We chose the window table but unfortunately no real view. Just the bbq and smoker. We started with the appetizer special of the day which was a bruschetta. For our main course I had the salmon, cooked medium rare. Cooked to perfection! My husband had the lamb duo which was amazing as well. Tender and flavorful, both the lamb chop and sausage. For dessert, we shared the chocolate dessert which was a peanut butter molten cake. AMAZING! We ate very last crumb of it! Overall our experience was great. A little pricey but worth being pampered once in a while with good good and great service. The servers were great and very well educated on all the dishes and wines. They recommended the perfect wines to go with our meal. We may not come back as often but will definitely for special occasions.

I came here on a groupon with a girlfriend. Don’t get me wrong, the $ 50 groupon got you $ 50 at the restaurant, you just got a free bottle of wine so the food and all else was the same, but it got me in the door. First of all I was so impressed how they managed to make a kosher restaurant so nice. Most kosher places I’ve seen aren’t at this level of quality. The intimate atmosphere and romantic ambiance all add to it. My guest and I both had different pasta dishes and finished up with the chocolate dessert. The dessert menu is really fun with many themes such as chocolate or salty choices. To be honest, I wasn’t prepared for the sticker shock of some of the steaks. I would have loved to have ordered them and review them here, but they are very expensive given you’re in Oxnard, not LA or Napa. I know the menu changes but the prices are really holding this back from being a 5 star favorite of mine.

What amazing food! I had the chicken breast sandwich with the added lamb bacon(well worth the $ 3 extra for the bacon) The sandwich was full of flavor and very generously portioned. I was able to make two additional meals out of my leftovers. True, we all filled up on the wonderfully hot and crispy sourdough bread with garlic olive oil before our entrees arrived, but even so, portion sizes are large. My husband had the marinated chicken salad. It consisted of a huge amount of marinated grilled chicken over a bed of watercress, romaine, jicama and avocado with a delicious vinaigrette. I would have liked to try more things from the menu as it was all very inventive. The dinner menu looks exceptional. Perhaps on a future trip down south I’ll have an opportunity to try more entrees.

A couple of years ago, my friend and I decided to go wine tasting and this was our last stop after visiting 3 other local wineries. By the time we got here we were proper buzzed. My friend had a groupon special for two people. That’s mainly why we went. We had heard many great things about Herzog from friends who have visited. We had no idea what to expect so walking in and seeing the massive size of the place was certainly overwhelming. I loved it right away. It could also be because we were already tipsy. So we decided to chitchat with the other people doing a tasting who as it turned out were also using a groupon. We all had a great time tasting a bunch of wine. Then I noticed there was a restaurant in the corner so I stumbled in(super thirsty) and asked for a table. The host looked at me weird then informed me I needed a reservation which got me fuming because there were literally 4 people dining. So I decided to come back for dinner about a month later and had a great time. I came with two friends and we ended up ordering what looked like their whole menu. We loved everything. Oddly enough, my favorites were the three salads we all shared. I also love that you can buy knick knacks on your way out.

Classy place and one of our favorites. The staff is impeccably trained. Limited menu but each item is amazing. My husband is allergic to pork, so this is one place he can eat without any restrictions. The lamb bacon is a must try! We usually add the 3 glass paired wine flight with our meal and it has been perfect everytime. Reservations must be made through OpenTable and requires a credit card guarantee.

People — this place is a kosher, meat serving restaurant. There is no dairy at this place at all. Don’t ask for butter for your bread and don’t expect the desserts to be dairy-filled goodness. No mixing of milk and meat here. Also, expect it to be pricy. Kosher meat is expensive. Couple that with a fancy restaurant and your pocket book will feel it. Just go with it… Now that that’s out of the way, this restaurant is frigging delicious. There are some kosher restaurants in LA that are really really terrible… Not my cup of tea. This place, however, is really good! I’ve been here 3 or 4 times now. Beau and I went tonight and had the steak for 2. It was delicious! Have I mentioned that it was delicious? Cooked just right and had a mustard sauce that was creamy and not overpowering. Yum. Don’t go expecting pork or milk products… Go with an open mind and expect really good food!

Mixed feelings. The food is amazing. The plates were full and wonderful. Full of flavor and color. Then there is the service. We had a gentleman in the front who was very nice and helpful. Seems like the manager guy. Then there is the server. She was not as pleasant. To her defense we didn’t get to know her much cause she was NEVER at our table. We saw her three times in a total of 90min dinner. She was rude and short. Looks like she has tenure so no one can get rid of her. Feel bad for the bust-boy who serviced us all the time. If it weren’t for such a great team we would review one star, but the total experience(no thanks to her) was good.
