RIP Olde City Grill and your AWESOME Holy Trinity(read my previous reviews). I’m gonna miss you and all of your philly cheese steak-cheeze-wiz-and-gravy goodness. I am truly heartbroken that you are gone. I also find it HORRIBLE that Ciro’s is what took your place. They can never live up to your Reign in Yum-nom-nom-ville. Please come back… The fat girl in me is begging.

I got the hot italian and it was super super !! They didn’t have yellow peppers which I was looking forward to but without it, it was still an amazing sandwich. Service was pretty good as well! The atmosphere is a little bit divebarish but to be expected and there’s really not that many seating areas, but I had no problem sitting somewhere, I guess it’s a good place to go but it’s just never crowded, so even better! ;D Philly Fries were also really good, seasoned to perfection and just the right amount of crunchiness as well as tenderness. They also have this challenge called the Fat Bastard Challenge… I’m actually not sure what it is, but hopefully I’ll go back and see someone doing it! :)

Holly bat $h!t batman! Terrible!!! I came with 3 other people and we all ordered different sandwiches… all crap! Im usually pretty nice when it comes to reviews even on a bad place but i just can’t be nice about this place. I was so disappointed I actually stopped eating my sandwich because it was so bad. It was incredibly bland and greasy… all of them. One of the other people I came with said the exact same thing and didn’t finish theirs either… not because it was a lot… because it was bad. I’ve lived on the east coast and I have been to Pat’s cheese steaks in Philly and this place is a fffffaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrr cry from that! I’ve had better cheese steaks frozen out of a box!

i love olde city grill. My bf and I usually go at least once a week. They have happy hour from 4 – 7 where pizza is only $ 2/slice and beer is just $ 1.50. The philly fries are AMAZING. The waitresses are always friendly and it’s always fun watching how people react to the triple bypass I’ve never seen the place even half full though which makes me nervous,

Stopped in here for a mid-afternoon lunch and was pleased with the food. If you’re interested in some east coast style grub: cheesesteaks, pizza, wings — this would be a place to hit up. I got a «ranchero» — a chicken cheesesteak type sandwich with ranch — it was pretty tasty. My wife got a plate of the tangy chipotle wings, and it did have some good tanginess though not too spicy. Sadly, we ordered about 15 min too early to get the Monday wings special(50 cent wings after 3 pm). They do have several kinds of wings, so we may return to check them out. The music was a little on the loud side, but otherwise the vibe was ok — simple, a little dark, but clean. Decent service. Sadly, they don’t take American Express, but they do take Visa. They also participate in my frequent flyer dining program so yay!

Oh man! This place is so good. I knew I was in for a treat when i was greeted by a huge Phillies banner and all the staff were wearing their red white and blue! I’m from Philly originally and I’m always looking for a good cheesesteak out here so that’s what I started with. I ordered a steak with onions(of course), wiz and sweet peppers. Just like home! On an Amoroso rool too! These guys did it right. Most steaks out here are heinously wrong. Gaglione Bros don’t even know what sweet peppers are! I asked if they had Pennsyvania Dutch Birch Beer and they said no. Bummer. I can dream though. If they can get the birch beer the’ll squeeze a fifth star out of me!

Olde City is a pretty decent place, but it tends to overload itself in some aspects. Our hero feels like it’s not really«too much of a good thing», but more like«too much of one particular thing» in each dish. Wings: For some reason, they gave our hero too many drumsticks and not enough actual wings in each order. They charge by the pound, which is about 8 or 9 wings. There’s 9 different flavors and you can get them breaded too. These babies are 50 cents each on Monday nights, so hit that up for a good deal. Hoagies: The 6 inchers are monstrous and stacked high with shredded lettuce for volume. These half footers are definitely enough for a one man meal. Meaty plate: This is like the white man’s carne asada fries. 4 types of meat and Cheese Whiz on top of a whackload of fries is pretty awesome. The grilled onions makes it taste similar to animal style fries from In ‘N Out. Our hero could live with about 1⁄3 of the Cheese Whiz they put on this thing because that much cheap cheese just doesn’t sit well in the stomach. PROS: — Portions are large. — Excellent selection of beers. — Prices are reasonable and the quality is there. CONS: — Women’s washroom is broken at the time of this review. — There’s only 3 or 4 tables that have a view of TV’s, which doesn’t make this a very good place to watch sports games.

I‘m not really one to frequent PB because of my incredible fear of the drunken, rude, bro brigade. However, my homie Thomas and Yen really wanted to get some cheese steaks so I couldn‘t say no. There was plenty of street parking at 2 am, but that probably isn‘t the case during the daytime. It was kind of fun walking there at night. I felt like I was walking down the Jersey Shore. Besides the creeper standing way too close to my homegirl, I would pretty much close to perfect. The 6″ Classic with extra onions was the best damn cheese steak I‘ve had in my 21 years. I almos choked because I wasn‘t really eating it… I was sorta inhaling it. The dudes working there were hella nice, quick, and responsive. Totally chill place for the after-clubbing/late night/stoner munchies.

I had some Groupons gifted to me by my Dad and decided to use them up while we had some friends in town. After the 4 of us worked up a hunger walking around PB we decided head over and see what all the fuss was about. We were disappointed to find that there weren’t any open tables outside(it was the first nice weekend of the summer and we wanted to spend as much time outside as possible) so we went inside and headed to the only open table, which was in the back and pretty dark. We were kind of unsure about the place since it was dark, didn’t look too clean and the floors were so sticky my shoes stuck to the floor when we walked up to the table. I was pretty sure that my boyfriend(the crazy OCD neat freak) was going to demand a change in venue and I’m pretty sure that the $ 50 we had in Groupons was the only thing keeping him there. We all ordered cheese steaks of different kinds(buffalo chicken for me, the original with peppers and cheese wiz for the BF, a make your own for our friend and a chicken philly with spinach and some kind of cheese for his wife) some buffalo chicken strips and cheese fries to share. The boys and I ordered beers and I was pretty sad when my Stella wasn’t with the Shock Tops the boys ordered until she explained that the keg just ran out and that it would be another few minutes until the new keg was ready. I was very confused and a little concerned when she walked over with a glass of Stella(complete in the fancy Stella glass) that was half beer half head until she explained that it was just what was left in the keg and that it was on the house. As the time ticked on and still no food we started to get a little annoyed, then finally we see our food make it’s way over to our little dark corner of the restaurant. All of our annoyance disappeared after the first bites of our sandwiches. The strips were pretty good and the fries were great. The fries were perfectly crispy and the wiz was on the side(although it topped the fries on our second visit a few days later) which is perfect when sharing with 4 people. My buffalo chicken as SPICY! They weren’t kidding when they said that the extra franks would«kick it up». It was so spicy my ears were plugged up but so amazing that I couldn’t stop eating it. I reluctantly let my boyfriend try a bite and he agreed that it was really good, but was amazed that I ate as much of it as I did because it was so spicy. He even told me that I shouldn’t finish it, which I did anyway. We’ve been back less than a week after our first visit to take advantage of the $ 1.50 bud light happy hour and a second helping of our yummy sandwiches. I got the buffalo again but opted not to «kick it up» this time. It wasn’t very spicy this time around so I think I’ll stick to «kicking it up» next time. It’s only been a few days since our last visit but I’m already ready for our next visit as soon as possible. I will have Olde City Grill to thank for the extra 10 lbs I’m sure to gain as a result of my new obsession.

I’d been meaning to go to Olde City for some time but never made it. Then, the other day my girlfriend had a menu delivered to her place and I looked it over. Just reading about a few of the items made my mouth water, so I decided to check it out. So I walked in the other night and ordered the 6″ Chicken Parmesan sandwich and a drink. I was actually thinking about the 12″ but decided to go light on my first time. Anyway, after awhile my waitress Elsie came out with the sandwich looking a bit bummed. She sat down, apologized, and gave it to me saying that she and everyone in the kitchen thought it was overdone, so they were making me another — on the house. I told her that I like things crispy and that it looked perfectly good, but she insisted. Anyway, the first sandwich was awesome! Crispy, tasty, zesty and moist! I finished it in just a few minutes. I didn’t think anything could be better. But then the second just a little bit less cooked one came out and, oh my god, it WAS actually better — more moist, juicy and with gooey melted cheese but still good and crunchy as well! I was in heaven! Although I tend to be a creature of habit and usually end up ordering the same thing, if the rest of the menu items are as good as what I experienced that night, I think I am going to be breaking from tradition at Olde City — I am also going to be a regular! The food at this place is awesome and Elsie was one great server. A winning combination hard to find anywhere, especially at the beach!

Ok, this is how it’s going to go. I’m not a fan of Philly-style pizza. And I’m definitely not a fan of the Phillies. It was really hard for me to stand in line waiting to order with Phillies banners all over the place. I’m a Met fan through and through. It may not be on the level of Yanks Vs. Bosox, but for the diehard Met fan, I was in the cobra den, shark lair, Lindsey Lohan«cocktail» party, etc. But I had no options at 1230a on a Friday night and I needed to carb up. I ordered the 6″ Original, a cheese slice and Coke. The cheese steak was pretty legit, I will admit. However, I wasn’t a fan of the pizza. It was too dusty and too chewy. But I’ll cut them some slack because of how late/early it was. The counter guys were pretty cool and I appreciated all the Unilocal love. I can’t, in good faith, give this place 4 stars because of my loyalty. But they absolutely put out a 4-star cheese steak. I repeat, their cheese steak is 4-star delicious. Lets go Mets…

Classic case of «if only I could give half stars». They deserve better than 3 stars but don’t quite clear the four stars bar. I have been there several times. The staff is very friendly and I have always had good service. I have only ever phoned in to take out but that is an important service in the beach communities. On my last trip I ordered a half pepperoni and half ridiculous(ham and pineapple for my room mate. I am from Jersey. You just don’t do that to a pizza.) and a small cheese steak for us to split because we are eating healthy these days. The pie was good Philly pie. Thin crust was heavily dusted with the outer edges flattened out. It would have been great except the sauce was ridiculously spicy. You don’t need to do that to pizza sauce. That’s what the red pepper flakes are for. I would be pretty loyal to this pizza if it wasn’t for the sauce. The cheese steak was pretty good but nowhere near Pop’s or Gagliones. I make a better cheese steak at home, but overall it was not bad for San Diego. The place is pretty cool looking and they have extremely convenient take out with parking in back. With the great staff, the hours and the decent Philly food, I recommend you give it a try. It might be just right for you.

YUM! Garlic fries are delicious! Menu includes a variety of cheese steaks which are delicious as well. Good place to catch a game while grubbing on some good food. Been here for a late night as well… post night out in PB. Apparently it was good too as my roommate and I stuffed our faces :) thank you random boy who bought us all that pizza.

My cousin from back in NJ was visiting for around six days. He’s eaten at all of my favorite haunts a few times at my usual times, but for his last meal in PB, he asked to come back to the OCG for a cheese steak. I was kinda shocked since he is from NJ and expected him to want fish tacos from Lat’s or something like that, but he liked this place. I’m rarely here and don’t order a beer(Kona Fire Rock on tap!!!), but it was mid-day and I was going to have to drive him to the airport and then go back to work, so beer was out of the question. This was my first 100 percent sober experience here and still a solid one. Jamie was working and came right over to get our soda orders. The Diet Coke was as to be expected. Cold and loaded with caffeine. I got my usual chicken cheese steak thing, but Steve got some sort of crazy California cheese steak with guac and fries. Thing looked awesome and he housed it. If you’re in the PB and looking for a good meal, head to Olde City. It’s good stuff. And on sunny days, you can sit outside and people watch. Or rainy days like today.

Being the philly cheesesteak connoisseur that I am, I had to try a new joint in SD. We came here for lunch today and we both got 12 inch kobe beef, cheez wiz w/onions sammiches. We also split their cheese fries. I got the cheese on the side cuz I don’t like my fries to get soggy. The fries were bomb and the velveta-esq dip was delish. The sammiches were huge and decent, but the taste wasn’t the best. It was ooey and gooey, but was just off. My advice… is still holding strong… go to Gaglione Bros.

After watching one too many episodes of 30 Rock, I had to follow in Liz Lemon’s shoes & sink my teeth into a Philly cheesesteak. Man that woman puts wicked ideas in my head. Because of this show, I was craving one of these gooey meaty sandwiches for the LONGEST time. I thought I was preggo or something because I’ve never even had one & suddenly I couldn’t stop thinking about it. Luckily, it was just a case of the munchies & I found this place to appease my belly. I called in an order for lunch & had the bf pick it up & bring it to me at work. Never stand in the way of a woman with a craving, I always say. Luckily, he understood, either that or he was afraid of the wrath of a hungry gf, haha. Anywho, I ordered a 12″ Aristocrat(American Kobe beef, sharp provolone, grilled onions, & sauteed mushrooms $ 9.99) & the Philly fries(Old bay seasoning & melted cheese $ 3.75) for us to share. Upon first bite, my craving had been satisfied, it tasted just as I thought it would, tender meat smothered in cheese, yum yum. The fries were a little soggy(I suspect from being taken out, rather than eaten in). The meal was good, but I haven’t had a craving for cheesesteak sandwiches since then, so I guess it didn’t really leave a lasting impression.

This was a rather enjoyable place to eat– my boyfriend felt like he wanted a meatball grinder and I had purchased a groupon(I freakin love cupons, Im on a mailing list! groupon is highly suggested!) for this resturant. So at 9 in the evening we drove up, found street parking(amazing!) and went to Olde City Grill. It was my first time walking in and you can just tell this was a local joint– the place is a little dingy at night, but it was really fun to sit down and watch the pletera of TVs.(Theres Four and about four feet apart, so everyone is bound to get a glimpse of the gam) Seats can be rather limited, specially if you have a big party, but we got their late enough in the night where we missed the rush so the place had quieted down some and it was an all together nice atmosphere. By the way, look up at the ceiling, theres some things written up on there that I found highly entertaining. Our server was really nice(Elaine, I think?) and she and one other girl worked th entire resturant by themselves, and considering the amount of work and people they were serving, they were considerablly kind and fun to talk with. The food was yuuuuuummy. We had motz sticks– the breading on them is really delish, nice and think for a good crunch and you can tell they make it on their own, theyre arent bought at the local grocery store. I ordered the Aristrocrat which hit the spot for me, my only problem is that there wasnt enoug mushrooms in it and way to many onions– next time Ill just tell them to hold the onions, but other then that it was a really good sammich and very filling! and I only had a six inch!!! My boyfriend ordered his desired meatball grinder, he too only had a six inch, but the thing weighed like five pounds… and that isnt just from the sauce alone. Those were some decent sized meatballs with nice hunks of cheese/He soon had heartburn afterword, but he said the heartburn was totally worth that grinder and he would do it again any time, lol! We also split the«philly fries” — omg, yum!!! The fries alone are just tasty– crispy on the outside, enough potatoe on the inside, the best way to describe it is like… on oversized shoe string fry but really good! and the cheese/sauce/dip they gave us was amazing too. It was dipable, but not liquid, it had this interesting texture and was just really tasty. And they sell pizza by the slice– as stuffed as I was from our meal I was really tempted to get a slice of the pizza pies playing around in the front case to take home with me. Forget desert, get a dinner extension for later in the evening. But alas, the bloating belt line said I shouldnt have. I regret that I didnt. Next time Ill be sure to check out the pizza! Theyve got this great pizza list too with all kind of «good for the taste buds, bad for the rest of your body» toppings. This place is totally out of the way for me(since I live in Chula Vista) but I enjoyed the food so much that I know Ill be back– heart burn medicine in my purse for the unaware boyfriend.

Oh, Olde City you continue to do me right. I’ve finally tried the slices($ 2 during happy hour) and I’m mad I waited so long. The buffalo chicken is second only to the white pie, in my world. Perfect for that quick bite, add the $ 1.50 Bud Light(hey, it’s happy hour I’ll drink the cheap stuff) and I’ve got a full meal where the price is right. If I’m feeling really crazy I’ll add some Philly fries, due to my obsession with Old Bay seasoning, but that’s only if my calorie intake for the day in unexplainably low. And I have yet to mention the TVs(including the projector toward the back) which are placed so that every table inside has a decent view of the Phillys beating the Rockies in the last seconds, or the Eagles tempting fate with Michael Vick. Good times are had by all. The happy hour is still great, but the food keeps getting better.
