Sushi was alright and service was good. I wasn’t very impressed with the sushi but the price for the Happy Hour kinda averaged it out. I ordered the dragon roll, spicy tuna hand roll and tempura appetizer. I will give this place another shot knowing that we all have are bad days sometimes.

This is pretty pedestrian sushi. I found the service to be quite good, contrary to what other reviews have asserted. The people here are quite friendly. The prices are reasonable. I sampled a wide variety of sushi and found it all to be average, at best.

WOW what a find! This hidden jewel was found by accident while looking for a Japanese restaurant… and imagine an authentic Japanese restaurant with Japanese cooks and sushi chefs. For starters I tried the spicy tuna roll which had more tuna than I was expecting… so fresh & yummy! Just a side note: you can tell the freshness of tuna… NO fishy smell. My cousin tried a small cucumber salad which she said she loved. Then we had their bento box for dinner. I thought for the price of this meal it would be small, but I was astonished at how much food was packed into this box. There was an assortment of tasty, lightly battered tempura, edamame, flavourful chicken teriyaki, California rolls wrapped in cucumber instead of rice… MUST have them again, and a broccoli salad with a miso based dressing and of course a bowl of rice. And if that’s not enough food, I should mention they served all this with a starter of miso soup. This was definitely the most reasonably price FULLMEAL deal for authentic Japanese food I have ever had in the desert. I will definitely try this place again next week with my husband as he loves fresh sashimi. And this place definitely serves up FRESH!

First time here even though we’ve been in the desert since 88. It is hands down the best as far as freshness. Great people

Vera and I really enjoyed a nice meal here — just down the road from our hotel. We were attracted by the name«Tanpopo» as per the Japanese movie. Pleasantly surprised by the incredible food at such incredible prices! Tuna and yellowtail hand rolls, ikura sushi, oyster on the half shell sashimi, cold Chinese noodles, and a chicken soup with udon noodles to die for! The value-priced sake was a lovely bonus!

I have been going to Tanpopo sense it was up by the mall. In fact had my 35th surprise birthday party there 25 years ago. Food is just wonderful!!! People are wonderful too!!!

It is always a treat to come here every time I visit my aunt in palm desert! I love everything I have ordered over the past 5 years of coming here. My aunt even went to their original location back when she just got out of high school! The owner has definitely been in the business for a long time and knows what she is doing. She remembers our orders… I don’t even come here for months at a time. I really recommend this location for your sushi desires! Not to mention oysters, best price, taste, and size I’ve EVER had!

Amazing & late hours! Good cold green sweet tea, for me that’s hard to come by. Everything was delicious.

This place cant be beat in my opinion. Locally owned with Pride. Delicious traditional Japanese sushi at a reasonable price. Cold Kirin, friendly service. Fresh fish. I’ve been eating here for over two years now because I work late and the sushi is the best in Palm Desert. The owner of the establishment is nothing but the pinnacle of politeness, however she may take a little to warm up to you. Myself, I appreciate the authenticity, and the privilege of dealing with real people in general. My money is spent here over other sushi joints on el paseo any day, and that’s based on the quality alone!

Our family ordered a teriyaki chicken bowl, sukiyaki, & tempura. The tempura was fresh & crispy. The best I’ve had. Everything was delicious & the staff was very friendly. I highly recommend this restaurant!

I’ve been going to Tanpopo since their old location 18years ago. The reason I went for the first time(also first time eating Sushi) was because I had a roommate who delivered fish to Tanpopo. He told me that Tyco only took the very best fish of the Sushi grade fish he had to offer. That was enough to get me in the door. I’m glad I went. I’ve eaten sushi all over the country and I can still honestly say that Tanpopo is some of the best Sushi I’ve ever eaten. It was a great place for a late night snack when I was younger. Now I’ve got young kids and they love it there. Tyco always has a smile and treat for the kids and is always helpful getting them the non-raw(is that a word?) food that they enjoy. Please treat yourself and give them a try. I’ve never been disappointed with the food or service so I’m sure you will like it too.

We’ve tried it twice, both with good results. The chef really knows how to cook. The menu could use better descriptions. I think the chef is capable of a lot more than is listed on the menu. I think it is his wife that serves. The first time we visited she did not seem happy but was gracious this time. Looking back, we may have arrived late that first night; she probably just needed some rest. The real story here is the food. The mussel appetizer is wonderful and the oysters were great. A little disappointed in the Salmon sashimi, nothing special, just fish on some lettuce.

Back again a couple of times, just can’t get enough, the quality of this fish is so superior to anything else I’ve had in the valley and the happy hour menu is too good to pass up.

I first came here for 5 pm happy hour with my family, it was pretty good. The quality wasn’t phenomenal but it was really good none the less. I’d definitely recommend this place if you’re in the area and want good sushi!

Let me just start by saying the food here is excellent! One of the only Japanese restaurants that serve curry udon and the sashimi is so fresh! And the fresh oyster is to die for! But…the owner Japanese lady is extremely unhappy to work. They always try to close 30min before their closing time so don’t go late I suggest getting here early as possible. I didn’t enjoy the feeling that they wanted us to leave the whole time. My girlfriend and I got there at 9:45 when their business is supposed to stay open till 11pm… I don’t know, wish they had a friendlier staff. But I may comeback for the authentic Japanese food.

We arrived at 12:15 am really excited to grab our late dinner. We had been craving sushi for a while now. We arrive at the place and it looked nice. However as we approach a waitress for a table we were swiftly asked«To go?». «No», we replied. «We want to eat here». They discussed between each other and then the waitress says«We are running out of rice». And so our Dreams evaporated. To go they were available. For us to eat they weren’t. A simple«only to go» would have sufficed. I would like an honest business.

Overpriced, super slow, and mediocre food. Came in cause of good Unilocal reviews, but Unilocal has let me down this time. We ordered chicken teriyaki and some grilled fish dish and it took way too long to make, especially considering there were only like four other people eating there. The chicken was meh. The portions are too small for the price however. I would’ve ordered sushi if it didn’t cost 7 – 10 $ for two pieces. The biggest turnoff was the unfriendly service. The old lady waitress seemed grumpy and took forever to take our orders, get our food, and bring the bill. Overall a not so great experience.
