Great place for breakfast, i’ve not had their lunch menu so I cant comment. Their breakfasts are excellent. A creative chef, dedicated staff make this place an excellent value.

Again, less than stellar service but, 5 stars is so close and easily achievable. We have been here two times and the location and atmosphere is what we love. However, the service is consistently poor and distracting the the greatness that is so close. Both times we have dined here, we waited patiently 10 minutes or so to be recognized(it is a seat yourself joint). The young and seemingly task saturated servers notice us but seem to hope that someone else will pick up the new table. While this could be expected in a huge Dennys’ or IHOP, the fact you can stand in one spot and reach four tables makes this very frustrating for the patron. This goes for the duration of the service period. There are typically 4 servers working a brunch and the team work is just not there. Patrons are forced to go up to the bar or stand up and chase down a server for something as simple as a refill or the sides that were ordered… using a calendar(not a watch) to keep track of service time, I lost track or what eventually and what never did arrive… almost killing my post hike and beautiful Sunday«buzz». I really want to love this place. Amazing location close to our house and local owned which is what keeps us coming back. The food is good but would be great if the servers didn’t let it continually sit under light. We will return hoping the service issues will improve. If you have low expectations of service, not in a hurry and love local places with great food, come here.

If I were grading on quality of food, it may be a 4; however, there are so many other factors at play here. 1) you literally can’t move around at all bc the tables are crammed in side by side 2) worst customer service in the area. We almost feel like a burden asking for a refill on coffee 3) the prices are a bit steep for the portions and quality. Breakfast is the way to go but don’t come if you are in a hurry. I love the fact that they are local, and I truly want to give this quaint local spot a better rating, but I just can’t. I’m rooting for this place!

Food was very tasty… service was friendly, if a bit disorganized. I went on a week day at lunch. A nice little local eatery.4 stars instead of 5 due to not bringing us any water(everyone else had some) and bringing quiche instead of crepes(although it was delicious.) Yes, we would go back.

I love this place! Spencer and his wife work hard and do a great job! I love that they support local musicians and the food is always fabulous! Adrian makes the best spicy pickles!

Food was excellent, sadly the service was a bit spotty. Definitely willing to give it another try though.

Wow. Doesn’t look like much from the outside, but this is a true gem of a breakfast place. Went for a cold and windy run on the Santa Fe Trail and ended at the Speed Trap. The misery of the weather was immediately forgotten with the delish aroma of coffee and hot food. I had the Quiche De Jour and my hubby had the BLT breakfast sandwich. So healthy and fresh and amazing. Any time I am back in the area this will be my go to spot.

Although providing high ratings may eventually take away from the«hole in the wall» charm of the Speed Trap they do deserve it. We have probably been here 15 – 20 times over 2+ years mostly for breakfast and a couple times for weekend live music. Their coffee is amazing, the food is great and unique compared to the typical fare every breakfast joint offers, and on weekend nights they bring in live music. It’s a small place, which means tables are tight but also adds to the charm especially when enjoying live music. The staff is always friendly despite being busy. If you’re looking for a quick, low budget breakfast this isn’t the right spot. But if you want delicious food and drink in a cozy setting with friendly people this is the best place!

First visit. Saturday morning and the place was packed. Coffee and water pretty much immediately. Ordered B&G. Food was good but lukewarm. I chalk that up to how busy they were. I want to like this place and will probably give them another try. Second visit. Went for brunch on a weekday. Initial service was quick, coffee and water took a while. As with my previous visit food was good but lukewarm and the restaurant was only ½ full. Lunch for wife and I(with 2 bloody Mary’s) was $ 55 with tip. Far too much for so so food and service. Won’t be back.

I tried one of their scones… Dry, hard and tasteless. I asked for something… anything to put on it so I could get it eaten. A tiny portion of jelly was provided. The chai latte looks great, but is mostly foam and barely warm. There are so many tables(not full) that two normal people can’t pass each other in the aisle. Truly a fire hazard. The PLVFD needs to inspect that issue before people get hurt. No way you could make it out if there was a fire. Okay to sum up– moderately bad food; change the name to fire trap; overpriced. I would suggest any other breakfast place in the town or county. Good luck if you decide to try it!

Very small little place, food was delightful! The eggs Benedict crêpe was delicious, and the bowl of goodness was one of the best and healthiest breakfasts I’ve had in awhile. Moderate pricing

Not sure where any of the complaints are coming from. I guess other than the cyclist that thinks his friends(must not have many with how busy it was) should all boycott the place. He must have tried to order the moons over my hammy thinking it was a Denny’s. Had breakfast there this morning with my wife and left extremely happy. We were offered refills on coffee by just about every waitress working. The food was awesome and service was better. I guess if you don’t like the laid back atmosphere and supporting local businesses you won’t like it here. My recommendation in that case would be a visit to your local IHOP. Preferably on kids eat free night. I’ll take the Speedtrap instead.

Great local find in Palmer Lake! Stop in. Eat here. You will be impressed by the diversity of their menu. The portions are appropriate with great prices and their food was fresh. I had the bacon, lettuce, tomato, egg, breakfast sandwich which is served with amazing fruit. The fruit was so fresh. This is definitely worth the stop. Delicious adult beverages that are creative. And a creative menu to see what everyone’s needs. They have some gluten-free options. I had a chai tea with almond milk there was also very good. The ambience is also incredible. It’s very small and intimate with local decorations and a library. A functioning library. As we were leaving the owner came out with an amazing looking dish which should be the special. It looked absolutely amazing. We will be back. But even have live music in the evenings. This is my new summer destination.

I thinks its ironic that their motto is «Be kind to other people» yet their service does not reflect that. Took forever to have our order taken(servers were moving at a super slow pace, ignoring the few tables that were seated, and it wasn’t like they were terribly slammed with orders). Even escalated to the bartender to let her know that we were ready to have our order taken(mind you the bartender was not attending anyone either) and she said«Someone will be with you shortly» and turns her back on us. Wow. Way to step up and help out. They ran out of eggs(how unprepared can you be?) and the server notified us 20 mins after we placed our order. Would have been nice to have known this sooner so we can change our order. Mistake after mistake and received some attitude from one of the servers when we mentioned that they messed up our order. As we waited with no food, I asked for coffee refills twice and I had to remind the server yet again for more coffee. I can go on and on… just a bad experience. I guess their motto should be changed to: IFYOUBRINGUPORMENTIONOURMISTAKES, WEWILLTREATYOUPOORLY. Be kind my ass. Thx for reading–

Thank you, Unilocal!I never would have found this charmer if I didn’t have the Unilocal app. We were cruising down the highway in an unfamiliar area, put the word«coffee» into the Unilocal search and it gave us Speed Trap. Located about 2 miles down a small two lane road, across the railroad track, next to the bicycle shop, Speed Trap is waiting for you to stop in. The place is frankly too big for the two ladies doing all the front of house work, and I suspect that there was only one person in the kitchen, but they manage to get everyone fed and watered. I can see how, if it was a busy weekend with lots of city folk swarming this beautiful countryside and demanding quiche and lattes(that’s not a slam, that’s what I ordered), that the service might be a little slow. So what? Adjust your expectations, and slow your roll. What did you come to the countryside for anyway? So you could rush rush rush around? Sit. Savor. Put the phone away and talk to your neighbor.

My wife and I visited to Speed Trap for the first time tonight. I have to say the experience was very enjoyable. The staff is super friendly. We learned tonight that as of two weeks ago it is under new ownership. The new owners(Samantha and Spencer) are very nice and accommodating. If you tried this place in the past and had a bad experience(if you’re in the area) I would recommend giving this place another shot. The food was very fresh and drinks were tasty.

I am so impressed at this little diner. Very unassuming building, but inside the food and atmosphere are amazing. My wife and I had the ham, egg and cheese croissant and the Buffalo breakfast pie(breakfast pizza) and everything was amazing! Don’t let the cheese potatoes slip past you! Their coffee was also very tasty. I visited a second time in two days and it gets even better! The salmon crepes were great and the bacon quiche was a winner. My favorite is still the Buffalo rustic pie, but it all is so good!

From 5 stars to 2, but after two visits with abysmal«service» I’m being generous to not just write them off and give Speed Trap a 1 star rating. This morning my wife and I went in for breakfast and coffee. We were greeted immediately by a curly haired lady, a change from our last visit(see below). I thought things were looking up. We sat there for 15 minutes without anyone acknowledging us or taking our order. Servers walked by countless times but never stopped. These same servers were greeting and taking orders of other customers nearly as quickly as they walked in, but apparently today they didn’t want our money. We WALKEDOUT. On 5/18, my wife and I walked in to Speed Trap and waited in the line at the coffee bar. They made drinks for the folks in front of us, and accepted payments from them. But when it was our turn to order we were asked to grab a seat and a server would be «right with us». We sat down outside, and a server came out a few times, attending to the other tables, just not to us. My wife went inside two times to ask for someone to come take our order. Just plain ridiculous. The coffee and food is good here, but the«service» or rather lack there of is what would make me never step foot in here again. I don’t have time to waste sitting around hoping someone wants to treat us right. So much for their slogan, «Be kind to other people».
