Good place to stop through for a few drinks. Only downside is they only stay open until 12AM as I believe they’re still waiting for their full liquor license as management recently changed. Good atmosphere: plenty of seats at the bar and two pool tables, shuffleboard and darts in the back; and it’s never really too crowded. We’ve been here both during the week and on weekends and have enjoyed ourselves every time. Be careful though, you could absolutely miss it driving by as there really isn’t a sign for the place as you’ll see in some of the pictures on here.

Yep this place is a dive bar. They have a good selection of beers that rival any craft beer bars except this place is darker and the exterior makes it seems very un-inviting. The inside is so dark that even though the beer taps are right in front of me from the bar top, I had to squint and go up close just to see the description of what it was. No beer menu or beer board here… and since it was just one guy here, I didn’t want to go through that dialogue of him asking me what I like to drink and him picking something based on my answer. Beers were cheap and a most of the handful of people in there were drinking shots and beer while there. I guess they were in there for the AC because it was a pretty hot day that day. Street parking is your only option here.

Rude, obnoxious and very strange bartender. Seedy look and feel of the place.

This is easily the best bar in PA. A good selection of microbrews, friendly bartenders.

This place smells weird. It is also huge and when I was there it was kind of empty. However, the bartender was nice and they have pool tables :)

We tried to go to the movies tonight, but a concert at the Shoreline thoroughly thwarted our progress. «Let’s go play pool instead,» suggested Bill, and we found this sweet little neighborhood bar. The décor is an intriguing red and black with nice retro video games and pinball machines. There was something resembling a cross between curling and air hockey but involving a long skinny table with a lot of salt. And then there were two coin-op pool tables, only one of which was in use, costing a reasonable buck per game. Three games and two drinks netted us an hour of fun for under $ 10. The people were friendly, the atmosphere was free of smoke, and I would be happy to come here and play another day.

//AMBIANCE// This place is big. It has a dart room(ask the bartender for darts), tabletop shuffleboard, pool, and lots of seating and TVs. The dart room has a black light haha. If you go at a certain time, this place is dead. Once its past 10 or 11PM, it can be super busy. //SERVICE// When it gets busy, the bartender can get a bit snippy. I was trying to get everything my group needed before she walked away because it was so hard to get her attention. After my last request, she pointed a finger at me and said, «No!» It made me quite sad, because I really liked this place. So here’s a trick, don’t ask for too much at once. That was my mistake. //DRINKS// My friend got charged for sparkling water… But regular ol’ tap water is free! //SUMMARY// This place gets 3 stars because they have these nice amenities.

Came in on 3⁄13 around 6pm. The male bartender was slow, disorganized and unfriendly. We sat at the bar(there were only 5 other people at the bar) and waited over 10 minutes before he came over to see what we wanted. He acted like we were bothering him. I got a Jack and coke with lime which was nearly all Jack with a little coke and the lime did not look fresh. I was afraid to put it in my drink. In addition to bad service and strong drinks they don’t serve food or even have snacks like peanuts or chips. This place was a great place a year or so ago but now I don’t think I’ll go back. I can get better service and better drinks at Antonio’s Nut house.

This place rock. The bartender and owner are very cool. Cool place for drink. Best place in Palo Alto. Best beer selection in the South Bay. Love this place

People! This is the best bar on the planet! They really know their booze. Lots of variety. They have the best beer on tap but will still open a shitty light beer for me cuz i’m such a cheapskate(lol!). Snooty … not! This place is close to Stanfurd so you can get your buzz on before or after class. Sometimes I wish my grades had been better so I could have gone to Berkeley but I just like being here to watch the Stanfurd douchebags guzzle it down. I’m going to nominate them for a Nobel prize! I personally know supermodels that drive in from Hayward just to spend a few minutes here swilling milk punches(yummy!) or caipirinhas or what have you and dance the shmoney or wakkadooky before they swing their tale down the runway. The bartenders here are so generous they’d give you the shirt they’re wearing. And if you saw them you’d know that was A-O-K, hash oil or no hash oil. Now that’s what I’d call a happy ending! Well, I’ve got a row of purple hooters with my name on them and I don’t have any more time fooling around with a bunch of malcontents who don’t know the first thing about good. If you want good booze, ask for me and I’ll let you buy me a drink.

This place is depressing. It was empty, dumpy, and the bartender was really rude. They were out of one of the vodkas they advertise on their Web site, and also out of olive juice. The bartender offered me pickle juice instead. WTF? You’re probably better off staying home and drinking whatever you have in the fridge. Even if it’s milk.

This is the only review I’ve ever written, but this is a great bar and I should stop being selfish and share it with more people. It’s in my neighborhood so I’ve seen it thru out the week and can highly recommend it any day of the week! Like all really fun bars –it has great character and characters. With Monica and Yvette as your bartenders — well all I can say is you will get an education and you will witness the art of being a consummate host and bartender. They have got to be the most knowledgeable, enthusiastic bar tenders I’ve met in a long time. – they really know their profession. But then everyone at 4141 has unique character –they help you relax and feel welcome. The cliental are friendly, the beer is cold and the Tequila is right. You will meet people from around the world and all professions. And it’s an environment where you can actually have a conversation –if you wish– or be left along to contemplate your own thoughts. I highly recommend the fresh squeeze juices. Once you’ve had fresh squeezed juice in your drink, you will never accept can juice again. The beers are constantly changing so you won’t get bored and the variety will let you explore and become a true connoisseur of fine beers and fine wines. I even like the location– being on El Camino, it’s easy to get to –walk to, Über or take the bus. I mean come on the name of the bar is 4141 –it’s kind of hard to forget the name or get lost. Come on in bring your food, shoot some pool and play some music. It makes for a very relaxing evening. Freddy H.

What is not to love? Amazing selection of delicious beer and bourbon. SHUFFLEBOARD? vintage video games, boothy, divey(but not too divey), plenty of room. LOVE.

I really like this place, great beer selection at decent prices. But right now, on Dec. 19th, at 6PM the bartender is smoking hash oil through a e-bong, ignoring half the people who come up to the bar to pay for a drink, dropping a glass on the floor and putting it back on the counter like it’s not a thing, and being generally comatose. SHUTITDOWN. Bearded bartender, black beanie, gray Jordan sweatshirt. Get it together.

I’m into this place. I’m not so sure why– it looks odd from the outside. The beers on tap are great though, and they make an OUTSTANDING Greyhound– fresh to order — freshly squeezed juice! Mmmmmm They have games and pool tables — great for passing time with friends. Totally a chill, down to earth spot, perfect with your buddies or colleagues for drinks or beers!

As a recent Bay Area transplant from the east coast, several of my coworkers suggested I check out the 4141 Bar. I was NOT disappointed. The bar is very low-key, and the jukebox plays good heavy rock and metal. The bartenders are very friendly and always serve you with a smile on their face. They have a small, but good selection of local craft beers on tap, and PBR for you hipsters. Their cocktails are made with fresh squeezed juice. The bar itself has cool artwork, from Primus to Slayer posters, and guitars hanging behind the bar. The 2nd room has pool, shuffleboard, and darts which always make for a great night with friends. There is an outdoor patio, but I have yet to check it out because the seats were full. Currently they do not serve food here, so you have to walk to somewhere local. Definitely check this place out, I’m planning on going back again soon!

This place is trying to be a dive, but only succeeds in being kind of lame. I’ve been twice. On both occasions, there were only half a dozen people in the place, yet the bartenders(both times) seemed preoccupied. They do have a good selection of beer, but no menu to tell you what they are. Ask the bartender, you’ll get a half-hearted response. The place just doesn’t have any enthusiasm. A good local place, even a dive, should have outgoing bartenders who are enthusiastic about their product. Also, there’s the music situation. They have a sound system(good) that mostly serves an overly-amped bass(bad). It feels like you’re drinking at a thump club, except instead you’re sipping at a mostly-empty bar with a lackadaisical bartender.

I don’t want to write this review. It will make this spot get popular. Which would be bad. This place rocks. Nice selection of draft beers, liquors and bottled beers. Nice rounded bar area, not too cramped and a couple of TV’s with sports. Cool hipster posters. 2 pool tables, shuffleboard, and a hidden dart room with a black light. Yup. Black light. Outdoor patio. Bottom line this place is cooler than the sum of the people inside it. Which is almost the opposite inverse of Murphy’s law. I dig it. Not to mention the music. Combination of James Brown, Johnny Cash and a bunch of other cool shit I can now say I listen to because I went there. Music isn’t too loud but loud enough. I can actually have a legitimate conversation with people I’m there with. It also makes approaching people I’m not there with a lot easier. And the bartender is a pretty cool dude. 5 stars for ambiance, hands down.

Did not have a great experience at all. Came up with a big group of people from LA. First of all, nobody was at the door, so we just walked in, instantly got glared at by everyone in the bar. Heard the bartender yell something along the lines of «can somebody work the door and check those people» We walk to the back where the billiards are and still get the bad vibe that we’re outsiders. Random scruffy guy comes running after us to check ID’s with a dog. Yes, there’s a dog in the bar. Friendly cute little guy, but that’s gotta be some kind of violation isn’t it? What if a drunk customer harms it? Anyways, didn’t know one of the guys in our group wasn’t 21(he didn’t even say anything to us!). Bartender told him he has to go, and I could hear the heckling and laughter spread throughout. Honestly, some of you locals need to get the pretentious rod out of your asses. Avoid if you’re from out of town and are looking for a cool bar to hang out at. Just go to SF or downtown Palo Alto instead

Darts and Shuffleboard I’ve missed you!!! I moved up to Palo Alto from LA, and have really been missing my beach sand shuffleboard. So glad I found 4141. Darts(although the darts room is too dark), shuffleboard, and pool make for a great night of bar games with friends. On weeknights it’s even quiet enough to really talk and catch up. All the games I would expect from a dive bar, but with the cleanliness and beer selection of a gastropub. Reasonable prices, great drink selection, I’ve found my new go-to bar in Palo Alto. Not to mention super friendly bartenders! The only thing holding 4141 back from that elusive 5th star was a couple rude/rowdy patrons who pushed us off our shuffleboard game on a weeknight(which the bartender totally volunteered to rectify), lack of food for happy hour(you can order takeout to the bar), and the lack of a few more TVs for watching sports with friends. Awesome incognito location. Just three letters saying bar on the outside denote there is something to be found inside, so it becomes kind of a speakeasy being found only by word of mouth. Well Unilocal,Hello World! 4141 is worth a visit.
