Two words — french toast. I don’t live anywhere near by but must go back for that french toast again. It’s on a lemon curd. It’s worth breaking a diet for, for sure. It’s crazy good.

This really is an amazing place. I’ve never had a bad meal here. We go occasionally for brunch and usually split the pulled chicken sandwich and pair it with fries. They always split the sandwich and side salad for us free of charge. The sandwich is delicious and so filling! I’ve also had their pastries which are also excellent. Their presentation is fun to see – tea served in their own heavy, metal pots, mochas and lattes in white antique poking bowls. Tablecloths on the table and intimate booth seating make it a great place to take a date. The bartender is warm, friendly, and always remembers our order even though we will go months at a time between visits(there are just so many great places out there!). Although expensive, it is worth the splurge and we certainly keep this in our rotation for years to come.

I love to go in the mornings on the weekend while my wife is at her barre class. The bakery opens around 7, and the restaurant opens at 9. I’ll get their breakfast sandwich and a latte and just hang out at one of their little tables, either inside or out in the covered walk way. LOVES: the spinach croissant, the breakfast sandwich. The quality of the food is outstanding. These are the closest to real French bakery croissants and baguettes that you can find here in the south bay(according to my wife who lived and studied in Paris, and has HUNTED for this kind of pastry quality in the US to no avail). Update: Have since been to the restaraunt portion for both Brunch and for dinner and the service is friendly and outstanding. The quality and freshness of the ingredients and the execution of each dish is at the highest level while remaining comfortable and accessible. Brunch loves: soft scrambled eggs, French 75 cocktail.

Came here for brunch on Easter and didn’t realize we could only order from a two item prix fixe menu for $ 39(I think) per person, which was way too much for what we got! Wow! I got the burger, which was a standard burger, though large(Umami’s is better) and a side of asparagus(that was actually really cool — it was a cold plate). Friend #1 got the Brioche French Toast, which was very good but heavy. Came with plenty of jam like sauce. Her other side was a bowl of yogurt(crazy expensive yogurt when you think about it). Friend #2 got the Smoked Salmon side(which I didn’t try) and the Prosciutto Benedict. She said there was actually a little more prosciutto than she liked, so I ate the rest. Overall, a good Benedict. They were busy so service was a bit slow. Oh, we were also each given one hot cross bun(eh) before our meal came out. I think that might have been part of the prix fixe though. I’d come back for the French Toast, though, on a day when you can order from the regular menu. Prices are high but normal for Palo Alto.

******************** 1530 *********************** I used to come here a lot on the café side, good salad and sandwich, sitting out on the patio, people watching on a sunny day. Lately, I go to the bakery shop side. Pick up my dad’s favorite bread pudding and apricot pastry here. I enjoy the Latte as well as the ham & cheese sandwich, and of course, the great service I receive here. Especially Steven, on Thursday afternoon, always good staff, everyone is always happy here. The line can be really long in the morning and lunch time! There is not enough parking spaces in this plaza!

Mayfield is one of my favorite brunch spots in the Bay Area. The reason it’s only 4 stars as opposed to 5 is because while delicious, the price is a little high for what I consider to be brunch fare that is average compared to places I used to frequent while living in Los Angeles. Not exactly a fair comparison, I know, but LA set the benchmark for brunch in my book(nothing beats sitting on a sunny patio on the beach in balmy 70-degree weather). Back to Mayfield: they make excellent French toast with seasonal fruit(I especially love the broiled pear in the winter time), Corned beef hash, buttermilk pancakes, and their oh-so-delectable roasted bacon. The bacon is special here — a waitress once explained that they broil the bacon(almost rotisserie style) as a whole slab, and slice it off the slab as it gets ordered. I don’t know if that’s true, but I don’t know why anyone would lie about such a thing. Also, don’t forget to ask for(if not brought to you immediately) the complimentary Madeleines. That might just be my favorite part — that or the bacon :)

I’ve come here a lot of times with my colleagues for breakfast and lunch. It’s always a solid choice for fresh and simple food. The menu here is pretty small and changes regularly with the season, but there are always multiple vegetarian options. I’ve always enjoyed my meal here, but I don’t know if I would go here on my own that often. It’s pretty pricy for the amount of food you get(for example, my bowl of oatmeal I got on my last visit was $ 11.50). But, they do use all fresh ingredients and list all of the farms that make the dishes possible on their menu, which I think is really cool. If you’re looking for fresh California cuisine, Mayfield is a great place to go. It’s not crazy amazing, but it won’t be disappointing either.

This restaurant is quite expensive. The rating of $$ should really be $$$. That being said, we were disappointed in the food served. I had the halibut which was somewhat dry and my friend had a pasta dish that was also dry and needed more sauce. The squash soup however was quite good. I don’t think will be going back to the restaurant. On the other hand, the Mayfield bakery next door, is a place that I’ve gone for pastry and coffee quite often and that’s very good.

My partner and I for every special event whether it be our families meeting for the first time, New Year’s Eve, having«us time» and most recently, our wedding, we always ALWAYS look to Mayfield Bakery & Café as THE one choice for our meal. There has never been a single thing on the menu that disappointed us, we could have the ingenious chefs whip up some mysterious culinary masterpiece and we would have no complaints. The place is almost always bustling on weekends with families having brunch, us among them. We love the fact they curate the finest ingredients locally and it makes a difference. «The proof is in the [eating],» they say and that can only be true of Mayfield. The folks from the seating staff to the wait staff and the tireless workers behind the scenes, are always kind and eager to assist you. It’s the little touches too, that continually charm us about Mayfield: once we had dinner and we were goodbyed with a special surprise dessert and chocolates compliments of the chef as well as two loaves of bread. We are especially grateful to Chris, Samantha and Louis who made our wedding picnic possible. The entire process was smooth and we appreciate how much love went into the food and planning. It was evident and palpable, how much care and consideration was there. I am still fighting with my new husband over the Earl Grey– Lemon Mousse wedding cake — he is getting into my half. I highly recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a wholesome rustic affair. This place is perfect for family reunions, dates or a spontaneous brunch.

The pastry was just average. Got the almond croissant which was subpar and the flaxseed bran muffin which was just ok The service was horrible! They wwere very nice and polite but bad with execution. Especially the girl who was taking my bakery order this morning(saturday)… She got my order mixed up.(Same for the person behind me). I ordered flaxseed muffin but she took it down as morning bun so that was acceptable. Might be that she misheard it. But then she took back my morning bun to get the muffin for me and caught up with some other people’s orders and I waited there … No sign of my muffin. I eventually went to ask another person to give my muffin after a good 5 mins … Not to mention the price difference between the two items but I decided that My time is more valuable than that :(

I expected great things from Mighty Mayfield. This review is solely for the bakery items. I can’t negate that these(baked) goods were made from high quality ingredients. Nor can I say that Mayfield has the best bakery items ever, which I almost expected from the raving. Items: –Chocolate covered peanut butter cookie — This was pretty interesting and I couldn’t place exactly what the ingredients were… peanuts, oats, almonds? –Muffin — This was no ordinary blueberry muffin. Drool. It was so rich and buttery with fresh bloobs, a sweet sugar topping, and was soft and fresh. The muffin was a WIN! –Almond croissant — This was also pretty rich. –Chocolate croissant — Skip it. The chocolate was almost like some chocolate chips stuck together. It didn’t taste decadent, dessert-ly, or deadly #deathbychocolate. Meh — Some french dessert I forgot the name of — I couldn’t even describe it. Kind of like a burnt pudding in spongier form.(EDIT: After some googling, it was a canele.) –Morning bun — Pretty decent. Mild — some sugar, some butter. Other things were better. So worth it? The muffin yes, the almond croissant probably, the other things — no. I’d need to try another cookie to decide, but a cookie must truly stand out to impress this cookie monster.

I came here for brunch over the weekend, and I expected so much more. While you wait for your order, they bring you complimentary madeleines. They were a little dry for me, but they give you some spreads to go with them. I shouldn’t complain about that because it was free. I thought that was a nice touch! I went with the simple eggs, ham, potatoes and toast. They have sourdough as an option! Nothing spectacular to report except the potatoes. I’d explain them to be hashbrown sticks! That’s what it tasted like to me. That was the best part of the dish for me. Our server was great, but the food was average and overpriced. I don’t think I’ll be back for more. Nor do I think it’s warranted a long wait.

Cute café in Town & Country plaza. It gets pretty popular so if you’re going on a weekend it’s normal to have a wait before you get seated. They take down your phone number and send you a text when your table’s ready, though, so you can walk around the plaza while waiting. The beignets were SOGOOD. They are warm, soft, and the jam that it comes with is delicious! It’s a perfect pre-meal snack to share with the table. When I went, they also gave us a bowl of complimentary madelines which were nice and fluffy! Onto the food… I tried the pulled chicken sandwich. It was pretty decent, the sandwich is nice and toasty(the bread is a bit too toasted/hard because it’s a baguette, but I enjoyed it still), the chicken is tender and the sandwich is cheese-y. I’m not sure I would order it again, but it was good. I’d definitely come again to try some of their other entrees, like their french toast or other breakfast/brunch items.

After hearing great things about them, my husband and I stopped by Mayfield for some cocktails on a weekend afternoon. We sat at the bar, ordered a couple of the barreled cocktails and some sourdough bread, and proceeded to enjoy ourselves immensely. Since we couldn’t make up our minds, the bartender let us try a little bit of each of the barreled cocktails, and from there, we selected the Old Fashioned and the Negroni. Although both were good, we absolutely loved the Old Fashioned! It went down super smoothly. The bartender was amiable and chatted with us about different liquors. The drinks do pack a punch, so perhaps amble around Town and Country for a bit before you drive home!

This is the kind of brunch place you’ll tell your kids about. When you first lay into their humongous thick-cut slices of bacon, or take your first bite of their 2.5-inch thick French toast, you’ll remember the exact moment when your knees buckled. Thank God you were sitting down. Mayfield Bakery just kills it with their brunch options. They embody the Town & Country vibe like no other. Food sourced from local farmers. Rich ingredients like pancetta, poached pears, and toasted pepitas. French pastries like brioche and beignet. Even typical brunch dishes like Eggs Florentine are done to perfection. I’m referring of course to their Kale Florentine($ 16.25), two perfectly poached eggs on biscuits(!) with kale instead of spinach. They somehow have managed to make it feel healthy even with that heaping portion of Hollandaise. Alas, all of this decadence comes at a cost. Brunch plus drinks will easily run you $ 25 or more. If your eyes aren’t opened enough from the House-Made Bloody Mary, they’ll definitely be when the bill arrives. If only I could afford to have this brunch of the gods more often. If only!

Don’t recommend for lunch. I heard dinner’s good, but again, no go for lunch. Tomato and Pancetta Pizza with red onions, mozzarella, and oregano. Positives: The inside portion of the pizza(with the toppings) was tasty. Negatives: waaay to much crust(see picture); too many onions; it has«tomato» in the title, but isn’t served with any tomatoes; served lukewarm; the pizza is $ 18 on Unilocal; at the restaurant the pizza is $ 19; true value of the pizza is $ 12 – 13 Kale Benedict. Negatives: put in the order; 10 minutes later, the waitress came back and said they were out of kale; substituted kale for some other veggies; waitress came back 10 minutes later and said the kitchen was out of benedict and biscuits; terrible communication between the serving staff and the kitchen Side of Heirloom Carrots. Positives: tasted ok. Negatives: were served lukewarm, and more towards the cold side(colder than the pizza; bad when you have a cold comparison in the same meal)

Brioche French Toast, chandler strawberries, chantilly cream. Sounds enchanting doesn’t it? For $ 14.00, I would expect my French toast to be cooked all the way through. The bread’s exterior wasn’t at all foretelling, as it’s edges appeared crispy and overall, the dish was beautiful. Deceiving. Perhaps too much milk or too few egg yolks because a majority of the bread was disagreeably soggy and wet. Thank goodness the eggs weren’t severely undercooked, otherwise I would have encountered Salmonella poisoning. No issues with service, but I would definitely skip this place since you would think that they would have French toast down by now. Hefty price tag for below par dishes.

We were starving after a long walk around the campus so we parked and walked to the nearest restaurant in the plaza. Hubby likes bfast food so we decided to try this place. After reading mediocre reviews on Unilocal I had second thoughts but we were already seated at a table. We ordered: Kale Benedict: 4⁄5 a nice twist on the Benedict, good flavor and tastes healthy Chicken sandwich: 4⁄5 similar to a chicken salad. The cheesy creamy sauce was good. Served in a toasted French bread. Almond croissant: 4⁄5 probably would have been really good if it was fresh out of the oven, but pretty good still at around 2:30 pm. Good amount of almond paste. Service was attentive but they forgot the bread basket so I had to ask for it.

Small café in a quaint little shopping center. Parking gets frantic in the hours you’d expect, especially given the location right by Trader Joes. There’s bike parking down by Trader Joes as well. K, the café: a bit pricey. I actually never truly found the menu until I’d wandered for a minute or two peeking in the cases.(It’s on a chalkboard on your right when you walk in.) I heard there was a good marshmallow something something drink, but I had meandered too long already and decided to stay cheap with a regular coffee. Drip Coffee(4⁄5): $ 2.75 — is as drip coffee does. Nice taste, good brew. Plain Croissant(3⁄5): $ 3 — I so want to give this croissant a 5⁄5. It was delicious and flaky with a Paula Dean amount of butter baked in, but I almost didn’t order it because of the number of flies hanging out on them. Minus One — Flies are not the end of the world, but they’re definitely not appetizing to have accompanying your baked good display. It’s inviting to have your café door wide open, but uninviting when it results in insect guests. I’d shut that door, Mayfield. Customers will still come in. Minus One — $ 2.75 for an itty bitty regular coffee is a dollar too high in my opinion. Thank you, come again? Possibly. A café is a café is a café. It didn’t stand out too much.
