So there’s this statue in Bowden Park. It’s made out of cement and shaped like a sports car with naked human legs and a baby fat gut with a belly button. This sculpture, done by artist Marta Thoma, is listed as a sight to see on a few roadside attraction websites. I told my friend about it since I figured she’d be amused by what tourists might consider alluring in her town. Her reaction to this news: «Oh god, that thing?! I hate that statue. I have to drive by it every single day on my way to work. I have fantasies of it exploding so I never have to look at it any more. It’s CREEPY!!» We roll by it later and yeah, it’s a bit more on the kitschy side. But it’s far from the artist’s creepiest work in the city(ahem … ). I don’t know. It’s public art. There’s really not much more to say other than, sure, «Rrrun» is random and I don’t feel anything looking at it, but better to have ridiculous art than nothing at all, I guess?
