I see Dr. Mandrea for eczema and acne. Neither one is a life threatening condition, but the eczema is painful, and the acne is upsetting, especially the scars the years of suffering from it have left on my skin. Unlike other dermatologists I’ve seen, Dr. Mandrea seemed to understand that I was there to get these conditions treated, not to be told that they weren’t life threatening. I’m still going through treatment for both, but at each appointment the doctor has looked to see how I’m doing and adjusted my routine based on what is and isn’t working. Wait time has been about average, besides one time when he was running late coming from another location. The front room staff let everyone know and gave us an ETA so we could run out to take care of what we needed to in the surrounding area.

I don’t see Dr. Mandrea. I see his physician assistant, Ms. Bernice Johnson. She is absolutely adorable and very sweet. She NEVER rushes me, and really takes time to examine me and answer all of my questions. She has never made me feel dumb, and has never made me feel like I was wasting her time. Her assistants are also very nice. Even though they are always busy, she and her assistants are always in a good/cheerful mood and can usually crack a joke or two. So, I would give her a 10 if I could! With that being said, the front desk staff is 50⁄50. When I first started going(back in March 2012) the front desk staff was terrible! They were so rude. They wouldn’t even acknowledge I was there or look up from whatever they were doing. Then while I was in the waiting room, they would discuss some inappropriate things… and everyone in the waiting room could hear them. However, on my last two visits, I noticed there was a different lady at the front desk. She was much better :) Wait time in the waiting room really depends on the day. Sometimes they get me in right on time. But I have had to wait 15 – 20 min before. They have a TV and a water cooler, so it’s not terrible. Be advised, it will take a while to get an appointment. Don’t think you can get one same day, or even the same week. They are a busy office. I’ve been to other dermatologists in the past, and Ms. Bernice Johnson is the best. She’s worth the wait. I tell everyone about her and recommend her to all of my friends and family.

Dr. Eugene Mandrea is brilliant. I went in for acne and left with a mole removed because he thought it looked suspicious. It was melanoma. Thank goodness I saw him when I did or the cancer could have spread. His bedside manner and kindness in dealing with me will not be forgotten. The office was beautiful and the staff so helpful. Thanks, Dr. Mandrea.

We’ve gone to Dr. Mandrea a few times, but then we had to find another dermatologist. H’es a skilled physician, but you could die of old age sitting in the waiting room, which is always full. We’ve had to wait up to three hours for a routine excema recheck. The office staff is really crabby, and if you get impatient after an hour, and ask how long the wait time is, they become very RUDE. What can possibly take so long at a dermatologist’s? Skin grafting? I know it all comes back to the front desk: they’re the ones who overbook, and then get nasty because of their own incompetence. Don’t go to Mandrea, if you live in the Chicago area. There are plenty of other dermatologists out there.
