This Gem looks like just a theater. But once you step in, it’s like a blast to the past! Ice cream is homemade, and GREAT menu for food as well! A must do eatery in Panguitch!!!

Probably one of the better places in town, this is a cute, retro ice cream parlor that has a surprise in store for you. They also do a small number of breakfast, lunch and dinner items too. And they are the only movie theater in town. Talk about multitasking! Good, rich ice cream! See for yourself.

Super cute little ice cream shop in the middle of town. Ice cream cones were huge! 3 come in the order. I had the kids size and it was more than enough!

My husband and I stopped in for ice cream. We heard that they make all their ice cream. I really wanted a root beer freeze but it wasn’t on the menu. The owner decided to make one just for me after I described it. It was perfect, the best root beer freeze I ever had! If you drop by, ask for a freeze. It may be on the menu now! Very nice people.

This place oozes charm! Wonderful staff, service and food. Simple diner menu, but good quality and delicious. Fabulous setting, with awesome 50s style music in the background. Stayed in Panguitch for 2 nights, ate dinner and breakfast here twice we loved it so much. The ice cream was delicious, and our server was so very attentive. Please help keep places like this open, give them your business! I have not been to a place with this much character in a long long time! I also hear the cinema has re-opened, so now you all have even more reason to go!

Note: This is a duplicate of a review under the«Gem Theater». It is the same establishment, but the GEM sign is much easier to see. … 5 Star Ice Cream. Although the GEM is not currently showing movies, it is worth a stop for their simple good food and friendly service. It is also well worth going out of your way for their amazing ice cream. The food is pretty much a Diner menu but tastes a cut above. We enjoyed our meal there and even got a historical tour of the theater. The real win here is their ice cream, which is made fresh on the premises. We did lots of hiking while in the area and treated ourselves every evening with different flavors. Their pistachio has so many nuts that it appears they took a barrel of nuts and just poured the ice cream over them to keep them together. They offer tastes of all their flavors and I asked them how do they get their Apple Pie ice cream to taste so much like pie a la mode? It’s simple, they put in ¾ of a fresh baked apple pie in each batch, plus they only use fresh apple purée. Their coconut is coconut on steroids, and ditto every flavor we tried. We live in the Berkshires where good ice cream places are as numerous as pizza joints in NY. This place beats them all.

We love Scoops From the Past — aka the GEM Diner. The soups are delicious, as are the sandwiches, which are served on homemade bread. My favorites are the meatloaf sandwich, the French dip, and the Gem Burger — all are great. And I can’t say enough good things about the soup — I haven’t had one that I didn’t like. The Fettuccine Alfredo was fabulous, and I’ve heard great things about the trout and brisket.(We mostly eat soup with a side of their wonderful garlic bread or a half sandwich.) And where else can you go where you get a free scoop of delicious homemade ice cream for dessert with any meal that you order? They also serve breakfast — they have great biscuits and gravy! This place is open when all the other restaurants are closed, and they have great food. Go there — you won’t be disappointed!

Now for the scoop on «scoops from the past». Delicious homemade ice cream. Lots of fun toppings. Darling décor, plus you can tour the historic Gem Theatre. The new owners did a fantastic job of restoration. It’s done in an art deco style and even has a balcony! A must stop in Panguitch, Utah.

Great local chain! I would enjoy going here often if I had lived here. I got the brownie sundae with mint chocolate ice cream and it was delicious!

Stellar ice cream! Love it! Plus, I mean, shoot, it’s really, really hot here! Especially for the elevation! Our hosts said that all the ice cream here is homemade. I believe them, because they are honest folk. It tastes great. Homemade. Sure. I mean, either way, it tastes great! Rocky road… mmmm… rocky road!!! My favorite part: the sign that says«don’t tap on the glass, it scares the ice cream». Hahahahahaha. Come here after you eat at one of the three restaurants in town. Thanks for listening!

This review is for the Gem Theater and their staff. My kids and I had some downtime on our trip to Bryce and decided to catch a movie in their historical theater. It was part of their ice cream shop as well. The staff were very welcoming. The place(bathrooms) were exceptionally clean! Movie wasnt HD or dolby digital but it just felt cozy. We had such a great experience that we came back the following night for another flick.

This blast from the past comes complete with stellar service and scrumptious ice cream. I personally tried the decadent butter pecan and comforting oatmeal cookie. Both were superb. However, they offer all your faves with a long list of toppings like butterscotch, hot fudge, warm caramel and marshmallow. They also do milkshakes and sundaes. The atmosphere is just what you would expect. The service was bubbly and inviting. Can’t wait to go back!!! But what to try this time?

Super friendly and the entire building is such an interesting piece of history. The employee behind the counter greeted us with a smile and offered a free tour of the theater and museum. This was a fun place to visit and the ice cream was great as well. If you’re out this way definitely drop in to say hi, sample the ice cream and if you have time catch a movie.
