L&L Hawaiian Barbecue

I’ve gone to other L&L locations in the valley and found their food pretty consistent. I usually get a chicken katsu and a BBQ beef or chicken plate. The girl at the counter was really nice and brought our food out to the table instead of calling out the number on my receipt. It’s a good place to stop by for a quick meal before going to the movies in the same plaza and it satisfies my sweet and salty bbq cravings!

Expensive!!! I got 2 short rib plates and a chicken katsu plate for roughly 40 $. Not a big portion either.

I love this place, one of the best options to eat BBQ ribs and chicken!
If you like raw cabbage don’t forget to request it when you place the order, it gives a especial taste to your food.

Ramen burger sucked. The burger was burnt to a crisp and I grade it an F in overall taste
Stick to the combos here like shreded pork and cabbage or teriyaki chicken

Those who think this is actual Hawaiin BBQ need to get out more often. It’s ok. If you want short ribs, go to a Korean restaurant. Spam musubi or the pulled pork is the only thing I’d get and I’ve had better.

Had lunch here one Saturday mini fried shrimp n French fries well done without salt cost 8.92 reasonable.

4. French fries totally undone like ²⁄₁₀ requested cashier Jesse boy/​girl not sure to get it well done, they did it in super hot oil inside uncooked cuz it was still soggy. Arson owner u need to have chef some CEU. Well done Krispy not soggy from inside n golden from out
5. Asked Jesse does it comes with cabbage reply they used to provide it people were complaining so owner decided to remove them u can still get it if customer makes a request good way to handle
6. Oil in hands was so over used it was stinking the whole day from fingers
7. One more thing Jesse our cashier brought the re done fries while I was still munching and shoved her hand in air here are your fries and since mouth was full had to hand gesture to leave it on the table she literally dropped it on the table.
8. Love the Slauson avenue L and L, this place sucks.

This place deserves more than 3 stars. I’ve been coming here for years. The service is always great. I get my order right away, and the food taste great every single time. Try the chicken katsu or the bbq chicken with extra macaroni salad.

I’ve been gong to this L&L Hawaiian BBQ location for quite a while now. Even though I moved, I would hit up this place if I’m in the area visiting my family.
The location is in The Plant where a lot of teenagers hang out or are just going to the movies after school. Doesn’t bother me at all. The restaurant itself is functional, fairly clean, and simple — all the elements that are needed to make a successful place run. The staff is very friendly and the wait times are not too bed, depending on if you go during rush hours or near closing time.
Every time I get food her, it’s always consistent, I have NO complaints! The portions are very ample, and is always cooked fresh to order. The Chicken Katsu is crispy and satisfying, and their BBQ Mix plate is bursting with flavor! They have a great selection that fits our fancy!
If you haven’t tried fast, Hawaiian BBQ before, you gotta try this place. There are other Hawaiian BBQ places around, but L&L I believe is the best out there!

I’m looking back at all my reviews this month, and McKayla is not impressed. Or maybe I’m sad to see another summer come to an end?
Hawaii, 1999. First time there as an ‘adult,’ first time I tried L&L. Loved it. One of those «I can’t wait to get back to Hawaii so I can experience this caloric madness» places. When they started opening California locations a few years later, I was super happy, and got my fix every once in awhile. It’s always been some heavy freaking fast food, so it may be nostalgia, but after coming to this L&L in Van Nuys, I thought the quality had declined. The meat seemed cheaper and smothered in the sauce, which was so heavy on salt and sugar, and even the spam musubi was underwhelming. I know it’s spam, but I like spam, and spam tastes great when spam is well prepared. Mmm… spam.
My taste profile might have changed, or as other reviewers note, it may be this location, but based on the BBQ Mix Plate I had, I couldn’t tell you why I thought it was special before at all.

I love L&L!!! I love their spam musubis and BBQ ribs! Good experiences except for the time their credit card machine wasn’t working & they forgot to mention that to me over the phone when I ordered. When I got there, I had no cash so I left :(.other than that time – I absolutely LOVE it!!!

Portion size is odd. Not what I was expecting since other locations give much more, even for a mini. Macaroni salad was terrible! Did not even taste remotely close to what it should taste like. I’ve been to 5 different L&L’s including one in Hawaii and this was the worst one! Do not recommend, will not be returning.

I’m usually a big fan of L&L. At one point I was there atleast once a week but not this specific location. This location is very disappointing. The gals at the register are usually very nice so I have no complaints there. Wait time for my food was decent as it’s usually pretty slow getting my order but that’s expected, no surprises there.
What disappoint is the food. I’ve ordered here a few times for the main reason being I don’t know of any other locations within the area.
Chicken katsu — lacked flavor, breading was not crunchy and chicken was kinda rubbery, sauce was fine
Loco moco — no complaints about the hamburger patty but the gravy had an odd vinegary flavor and unexpectedly was a little spicy
BBQ beef — meat was tough
Macaroni salad — biggest disappointment. Of the last three times I’ve been here, the mac salad tasted weird, like a sour not vinegar tasting but rotten weird taste. After one bite each time, it went straight into the trash can. Maybe my expectations are too high for mac salad because the other locations I’ve been to tend to be more on the creamy, milky side where you can the flavors and mostly the onion.
I buy food so I can eat the food. What’s the point of coming here if I can’t even eat the food?

Location
This particular L&L is located in the Plant Plaza, on Van Nays, in their food court section right by the theaters. There is indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor seating is shared between the other businesses but never seems to get too crowded, especially since they closed down the barber school next door.
Staff
The lady taking our order was so sweet. She took our order, answered our questions, and even brought our food and drinks to our table. No calling numbers or names; she remembered what we got and who we were. I know this isn’t that big of a deal but they had a decent amount of customers and I just didn’t expect that from them, given that I’ve been to other L&Ls and that kind of service just doesn’t happen.
Food
We ordered the combo with short ribs, pork, mac salad, and a scoop of rice for about $ 9, not bad for the portion size. Surprisingly, the meat was pretty tender which I actually enjoyed. However, the sauce could use some work in my opinion. It tasted vinegary and didn’t settle well with my stomach. The mac salad was sub par. Mac salad is a big thing for Islanders so I feel that L&L could do a much better job especially if they are offering it on all plates.
Lastly, I got the taro boba for about $ 4. The taro milk tea wasn’t bad but the boba balls were by far the worst I’ve ever had. The balls had an awful texture and absolutely no flavor and with that said, I wouldn’t recommend it.
Overall
Good portions, good service, decent prices, a-​ok location, but the food just doesn’t do it for me. Even considering all the other factors I just can’t stomach eating at L&L.

I remember this place bring better. When i first walked in, the girl was taking out the trash out of the trash can. She then stopped what she was doing to hand food to someone. Gross

i told them and they took it back and made it again, but she never apologized for it. Call me crazy, but ‘I’m sorry’ should have been the first thing I hear.
I’m not sure if this is just an isolated incidient, but not a good day for L&L (at this location at least, just to be fair)

First off, the portions are pretty big for how much you pay. My boyfriend and I got chicken cutlet with gravy, bbq short ribs and spam musubi with a total of $ 20 which I think is pretty good since we still have leftovers. All of their plates come with white rice and macaroni salad. The wait time is very minimal so I would suggest just ordering there, but you can also order over the phone and pick up. I would highly highly recommend the spam musubi. It is like heaven in your mouth. It is a slice of spam on top of rice all wrapped in seaweed. The bbq short ribs were also very juicy and tasty. The chicken cutlet was good as well, but I’m not a big fan of gravy.
I would definitely come back here for their speedy service and their good and fairly priced food.

Whoa. I damn near needed a u-​haul to carry my food out. Great value and great food. The beef was phenomenal. The pork and crispy fried chicken were tasty as well. The macaroni was delicious; as was the rice.
If you’re into hawaiian food, this place is a great choice.
