It would seem that the Midwest, from north to south, has ample clusters of German and/or Irish heritage. Beethoven’s is a breath of «hip,» in the Heartland. The sampler platter is not for vegetarians, but delicious. You must try: the housemade bread with whatever compound butter they offer; the pretzels. This is just some of what I had. Authenticity? Pretty much, and having been around authentic German fare, such as a Swiss-German deli in my hometown, I must say that this is really good, but I must come back to sample more of the variety offered. It’s more of a weekend restaurant, so check the hours, but a nice«ethnic» offering in the middle of an All-American hometown.

Kassler Rippchen was the special(not on reg menu)(excellent) large center pork chop, tender but not falling off bone. sauerkraut(very good) & fried potatoes(ok). Ordered side of red cabbage(excellent). Large yeast roll served at beginning of meal(amazing). Service(excellent). Restaurant closed Sunday thru Tuesday. We will go again, over one hour from home.

We happened upon this place while exploring the somerset wine trail. Service was prompt and attentive, and I thought the food was great all around. My wife and I had the wurst sampler which contained all 4 types of sausages they had. We also had their blueberry and lemon strudel which was an excellent finish to a very good meal. Very good food, very reasonable price.

When the Poetter family owned this restaurant it was on point; the food and service were great(especially the giant snickerdoodles). I’m going to give the new ownership the benefit of the doubt with two stars versus one because unfortunately I wasn’t able to taste the food. We arrived and we’re seated, but 10 minutes later nobody had came by to even drop off waters at our table. It wasn’t busy either. As we left we noticed a table of six who had been there longer… their table was still void of beverages as well.

Great food — very authentic and tasty. Great service. We love the atmosphere and have had several date nights here. I’ve been in Germany several times and have enjoyed great food there — this restaurant has some great authentic German choices. Love going here — plan to continue to go here often. If I had a complaint, it would be that I would like the restaurant to be open more days per week(I think it’s open Wednesday-Saturday for dinner). That complaint is only because I like the food so much and want more options of eating it :)

Ok first off you have to understand we are a bit biased when it comes to German food. My husband comes from Bavaria and his mom’s food is wonderful. We were excited to visit here. We started off with a couple of German beers, which there was a great variety to choose from and the sausage platter. It was really good, it’s hard to find a good weisswurst and theirs is really good. Then I had the Zigeuner Schnitzel and my husband had the sauerbraten. My schnitzel was good, but not great. It wasn’t an authentic Zigeuner it was breaded and the sauce didn’t have peppers and onions in it. At least they weren’t visible. The schnitzel had a slight charred flavor. However the portion size was huge. Now my husband’s sauerbraten was another story. It was a small portion and his comment was that it tastes like roast beef, not sauerbraten. It too was fine, but not bad. The sides we had were the red cabbage and spätzle. The cabbage was good and is the same kind we buy at the store from a jar. The spätzle was a bit puffy and wasn’t as dense as a traditional German one. Overall we would say it was an ok meal, but a bit pricey. Our tab was $ 85. My advise is give it a try if you don’t have someone in your life that can make authentic German food.

Love taking our friends there for dinner as Beethoven’s never disappoints. Make sure you leave room for any of their amazing desserts.

Great German food! My husband and I were in Paola visiting my father in the hospital and needed lunch. I’ve been here before but it was a long time ago! My husband decided on the Cordon Bleu Schnitzel with onion rings and spaetzel with brown gravy. The schnitzel was pounded thin and breaded lightly but seasoned wonderfully. The rings were great and the spaetzel with gravy was perfect as a side. I had the special — corned beef hash with over easy egg. Great chunks of corned beef with flat top grilled potatoes and peppers. The runny egg made the perfect«gravy». As a side I chose the German potato salad — vinegary and warm with such a nice tang. The soft rolls with cinnamon butter was a great started. Even though we were stuffed we couldn’t leave without dessert — bread pudding and a half pound cookie! It was a pricey lunch but so, so good! We will definitely be back to eat again!!!

I can not believe the negative reviews I have read on this restaurant. The food is consistently awesome and the service excellent. Just got back from lunch there with the wife. Jaegerschnitzel was to die for. I will taste the mushroom gravy in my dreams. Sides, spaetzale, red cabbage, hot potato salad all tasty and authentic. The air conditioning worked fine on a 93 degree day. Love, love, love the German food there! Best in the Kansas City area. Well worth the drive!

Great german food. Nice sized portions. Expansive dessert selection. Friendly staff. Décor isn’t much to look at but you will be too busy eating to care.

Don’t be fooled by these questionable owner written reviews. This restaurant in the«old downtown district» has a chic aire to it and the service was friendly, but that’s all that I can praise about it. The service and kitchen is waaay understaffed for the tables resulting in poor service and terrible wait times for mediocre food. It seemed to be a family business and thus what appeared to be a 5 year old and a 7 year old bussing and cleaning tables. Is that even legal?! The bill was over $ 70 for 4 without alcohol or dessert. Puh-lease! Take my advice and pass on this place. We’ll never be back.

We come here because our friends like German food. We had reservations and waited 15 minutes to be seated. Then we waited for two hours for our meals. Food is good, but the service is horrible. Won’t be coming here again. Owner made excuses, but no comp or even an offer to offset the ridiculous inconvenience. Not air conditioned…90s outdoors and warmer inside.

Beethoven’s #9 is a terrific German restaurant with delicious food and a family atmosphere. The rolls are fantastic. We were very full so we had to take our dessert to go! YUM!

Having been there before I expected great. And for the most pRt everything was great… However the waiter told us they had dropped the jalapeño pretzels and replaced it with a more traditional pretzel. So we ordered it anyway. Well it didn’t come out with any of the sides that the jalapeño did. No cheese or anything, I guess I had assumed they had just switched the pretzel. Then I ordered the black forest haw and Munster. It was very dry, and the slice of Munster was so thin it was very transparent on top of the ham, lending it no taste. I’m sure it was just an off day,

Delicious! I had a schnitzel sandwich – it was amazing. I’m going back for dessert. It looked fabulous, but I was so full already.

Took my Mother(that is from out of state) here for Valentine’s Day dinner. She had the Prime Rib and said it was by far the best Prime Rib she has ever eaten. Another great experience. You know when you walk in and the owner remembers you that you being there means something. I go not only for the food but for the awesome hospitality.

Great food. One of the best restaurants in Paola, and Eastern Kansas. Hours are limited, so call first. Beef Stroganoff is heavenly! Reuben sandwich is great for lunch. Fresh baked desserts. Plenty of parking.

Fantastic food! Everything we’ve tried here has been great. You will be stuffed when you leave, as the portions are huge. Definitely try their desserts, the German chocolate and carrot cakes are amazing.

Best dessert west of the Mississippi and east of the Rockies. First try the German chocolate cake made from scratch, then have the strawberry cake with cream cheese frosting, then have the warm apple dumpling, and finish with strawberry shortcake. Afterwards stroll around the square before you eat sausages and jalapeño pretzels. Ohhh ya Eahhh

You cant find good German food in Kansas City. Thats why we go to Paola, Warning one serving is enough for three so be hungry. Love the Jaeger Schnitzel and the Spatzel. Go early or the desserts will be gone.

The dinner rolls are irresistible. Try dipping the bread in the mushroom gravy that comes with the stroganoff. Yummy! So worth the drive from Kansas City. Great value and the staff is all hometown friendly. Enjoy Paola.

Wunderbar! Sampled the Jagersnitzel and Stroganoff. Both were good. Rouladen was a crazy soft beefy roll of goodness with hidden surprises such as onions, bacon and pickles. Pickle slices, not a pickle spear. Maybe some mustard seed… gravy… all the good stuff. I really liked the Hot German Potato Salad. Tasted like mustard and vinegar… and I love that taste. Spaetzel was delicious(described as potato based pasta, but I like to call them mini dumplings). All the cabbage had a sweet taste. Beirocks were really meaty and soft. Soft, fresh homemade dinner rolls. Thumbs up. Lots of desserts to choose from… Huge servings for most. Bread Pudding had chocolate chips in it. Beer was served in bottles, not in steins. Sigh. Lori was our server and she was very personable and attentive. She even gave me tea to go.
